“… the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord…”
John 12:12-13
We finally had to purchase a new flag last week and the timing was good for coinciding with the snowball viburnum’s bloom breakout. Since we were expecting a frost and possible freeze last night, I thought maybe it good to enjoy the viburnum today!
We can always count on daisy fleabane to not only show up early, but to be around for most of the warmer season. I mowed around this one and skipped the area with the weed eater just to allow it to grow up. This plant almost made it inside the garden but missed by a few inches!
Weed or flower? Maybe both? The common violet is all over the place so I suppose “common” is fitting. It is very hard to control and quite invasive yet a pretty addition to the landscape. I have decided to attempt controlling it where it competes with other plants and I feel it doesn’t belong…and accepting and enjoying it in spots where I don’t think it matters so much! “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” is not necessarily good advice, but in this case maybe some compromise is ok?
I discovered a young wild cherry tree near the edge of the yard while removing some unwanted briers and vines a couple of years ago. I left the tree and wondered how long it might be before tent caterpillars found the tree. Seems they have made the discovery. The black cherry is the caterpillar’s preferred host!
We had two planters that provided nice blooms all summer and into the early autumn last year. I wanted to plant them again because these super bells, a variety of petunia, did so well. They are supposed to be annuals but when preparing to pull up the dead plants, I found that they are not so dead and are acting like perennials. I am considering fertilizing and seeing what happens!
Little blue eyes is always finding things to smile about. I think he also wants to show off the one tooth that is visible (barely). He has 4 and a fifth coming in but I only see one from this angle!
Cherry laurel can easily be overlooked as far as flowers are concerned. The flowering is overtaken by a lot of foliage but I think these blooms are very neat and different.
The Japanese maples were slow to start leafing but seemed to fill almost overnight with their showy deep red/crimson leaves!
I am sure you will find this strange but this was interesting to me because of the architecture. This is directly across the main road at the end of our drive. I had never noticed how dense, with what must be hundreds of short limbs or stems…and I see it every day! I am not sure what this is or if it is even alive. I unfairly gave one of the plant identifying apps a shot at it and the result was Ponderosa Pine. It’s probably over 1,000 miles to the nearest Ponderosa! I will investigate further!
A small celebration last week but these 3 made it an awesome event as far as I am concerned!
Birch catkins are waiting for their pollen to be carried by the wind. This weekend, with very breezy days, contributed greatly to the pollenating (or pollinating – I find it both ways) process! How are your seasonal allergies?
Wind is not the only pollinator and our new blueberry bushes are happy about their visitor. We planted 3 blueberry bushes last spring and so far they are surviving and may have berries this summer. Maybe we can salvage a few but birds and deer will likely have first choice!
These big turbo prop C-130’s were flying low and directly over the house last week. I’m not sure if it is part of pilot training or testing aircraft, but I believe they fly from the Marietta, GA area. As a plane flies we are very close to Lockheed Martin and Dobbins Air Reserve Base. I decided to do a little research and discovered that the C-130 has been around since the 1950’s with many variations and models through the years. It has an impressive history as well as current worldwide use! The newest version is called the Super Hercules and pilots are trained at the Hercules Training Center in Marietta. Very interesting to read about!
We have observed blooms on these snowball viburnums in every month of the year. But, without a doubt, April is prime time!
The week between Palm Sunday and Easter is often called “Holy Week” or “Passion Week”. The events that took place to establish and define this week around 2,000 years ago are the most important and significant events in human history.
We hope you have a pleasant and blessed week!

Good morning Pam and Butch! Hard to believe it is almost mid April and still so cold! My azaleas and snowball viburnum are in full bloom, so I was holding my breath. That Wyatt is such a handsome, happy little fellow! Growing up in Charleston before it was reborn into the beautiful town everyone loves now, we were a military town (Daddy was comptroller at the Army Depot), so the C-130s flying over were a daily occurrence. They remind me of the giant bumble bees that seem to heavy to fly!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hello Roxanne, I hope you are recovering well. We had frost this morning, hopefully our blooms will survive. Take care my friend!

Hosanna indeed! How blessed we are. Belated birthday greetings Butch. The best gifts of all are in your arms. If I close my eyes and inhale I can almost smell Spring at your House. Yesterday we planted pansies in pots because it was a beautiful day and they can survive frost or snows we get . My husband is a retired pilot. One of the many planes he flew was a C130. It’s a work horse. I always loved to be at the airfield when he was flying in because I could hear it coming before I saw the it. Our home is in the path to DIA and when outside I look up when I hear one going in to DIA. Have a blessed Palm Sunday.

Thank you, Alice. Wishing you a beautiful Holy Week!

Hosanna, Pam and Butch! Happy Palm Sunday! As always, this post is filled with such beauty (particularly blue eyes and two other cuties!). C-130’s from Little Rock will sometimes fly over us for trainings. Your home and land are so beautiful and heart-warming. My allergies have kicked in and I was a bit under the weather for a few days, but still able to visit schools. I mowed my yard for the first time this season. My yard is so tiny, and I dream of the openness and beauty surrounding your area. But I do have a small bluff behind my house and I see so much blooming. Here’s to a beautiful week of celebrating our Savior! He lives! Love and hugs, Karla 💛🙏🏻🤗

I am so glad you were able to continue your school visits. My allergies have also kicked in. They make me feel really yucky. Take care and have a joy-filled Holy Week! He lives!! ♥️

O how I never cease to be awed and instructed by your Sabbath messages and photos. A blessed Birthday, Butch. This promises to be a contemplative and joyous week on the seasonal calendar. Just love the family portrait with ole blue eyes and his princess court being embraced by the birthday Grandpa. The weather-hewn fence caught my eye even before the fleabane and what a comparison shot of the Japanese maple and the “snowballs”….The intricate pattern of that bare tree across from the house reminded me of “what a tangled web we weave when first we venture to deceive”…really complex. Love the opening with Old Glory highlighting the viburnum. You can keep your “sleek” aircraft of today… nothing like the old workhorse C-130s that are still delivering inexhaustible service. Going to nursery-hop and find some of those orange super bells..so lovely. Have a rewarding and bright Palm Sunday in the Lord. Blessings +

So many beautiful blooms in your garden! And the Japanese maple is spectacular! I have two pigmy ones that I am overwintering in the garage for the winter, because they would not survive Minnesota. But now we play the in/out game– out when its warm, inside when its cold– until Summer finally arrives. 🙂 Oh my goodness, your grandson is so handsome and those eyes ♥. God bless him and all the little ones.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Angie for your visit and sweet comments. Have a lovely and hopefully spring-like week!

Good morning, Pam and Butch. Lovely and interesting post. Your violet photo brought back memories. I would tag along with mom in the spring when she went violet gathering. A few would make it to small vases for the table, but their main purpose was for her jelly. Violet jelly is from what she would tell, a Mississippi thing. But she was always so pleased that our hills and woods are full of them. There is nothing like violet jelly on a biscuit on a cold January morning. She would give her precious little jars to special friends at Christmas and they were thrilled.
The photo of the little ones is so sweet. Little Wyatt looks as though he would like to jump into the cake. He will sure be something for the girls to keep up with.
Have a wonderful week and thanks again for the memories.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sandra, I have never heard of violet jelly. It must be delicious. I am so glad the photo brought back sweet memories!

What a delightful stroll! Yes, I’m tardy again. But I so enjoyed all the lovely Spring pictures. The Snowballs are gorgeous! Wyatt is such a sweetheart. And I loved the gathering for Butch’s Birthday! Happy Belated Birthday Butch!
Thank you for such a nice stroll!

Pam, its always a treat on Monday after work to come home and see what beauty you two have created over the past week. The viburnums and Japanese maples are beautiful, and I’m so glad for you that some/many/ flowers and trees survived the frosty temps there. We are hovering around zero this week (a little cooler than normal) but nothing has really come up yet – still too early. Have a lovely week and a happy belated to Butch!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Kim. I hope you have signs of spring soon!

Pam and Butch, What wonderful pics. I love super bells too! They’re so dainty and prolific. Wyatt’s eyes are gorgeous and that smile is infectious! We escaped Sunday and had a day trip nearby since the the weather was finally warm and the sun out. After several cold days it was so nice to have a warm day. The dogwood blooms we saw were beautiful and it’s always a reminder of Easter and Jesus’ sacrifice for us. Your blooms are gorgeous! Love the flag shot! Happy belated birthday Butch! Enjoy the rest of your week. Clara❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Clara. I am glad you were able to enjoy a day trip. Be safe tomorrow, my friend♥️
Clara says
Thanks Pam! It’s still in the 70s here and it past 8 p.m. The winds are gusting. Not looking forward to the storms tomorrow. I think we’re probably done with the cold temps. It was so cold at night last week and a couple of days we didn’t get past 50 during the day. Last week may have been the last gasp (hopefully). I’m still not planting anything till after Easter as they say the last recorded cold snap was April 25th. Y’all stay safe too. Spring is beautiful but brings blustery weather. Happy Easter! Looking forward to seeing your sweet grands with their Easter baskets. Have a great evening! Clara❤️

I feel the same way about the common violet, although may tolerate it more than I should since my eldest granddaughter’s name is Violet. Your posts are always so beautiful, not just because the subject matter is gorgeous, but because you have such an eye for capturing the beauty with your camera.
Have a blessed Easter. He is Risen!
