Happy Thursday, sweet friends. We have had gorgeous weather this week. The kind of weather that is perfect for outdoor work. Since RM has retired (sort of), he hasn’t had an idle moment. He has found so many outside projects that will keep him busy for the remainder of the year. My dear man never sits down, it just isn’t in his DNA!
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
Psalm 34:8
I have been spring cleaning, fluffing, and organizing in the Sunshine Cottage over the past few weeks. There is still more to do and it seems that is always the case. Come on in, it’s spring in the Sunshine Cottage!!
Since I love to play with dishes, the shelves give me opportunities to display dishware seasonally and for holidays. Portmeirion Botanic Garden dinner and salad plates, with their beautiful flowers and butterflies, are ideal for spring! Speaking of butterflies, RM has been seeing monarchs almost daily as they pass through on their migratory flight. So far, he has been unable to snap a photo.
A vintage majolica pitcher and majolica plates join the Botanic Garden!
Flowers from Monday Morning Blooms bring more spring into the cottage! Pride of Mobile azaleas, snowball viburnums, and alliums were plucked from the garden to add to the yellow roses that my Renaissance Man brought home from the grocery store.
Bunnies remain in the cottage all of the spring season, not just for Easter. Bunny sightings are almost daily and will only increase as little bunnies are born. Last year we were overrun with rabbits…they are cute as long as they don’t feast in my garden!
There are a couple of items that always remain on the counter, one being my Daddy’s antique Underwood typewriter that he bought used while he was in high school.
This small pitcher of cherry blossoms came to reside in the cottage from Monday Morning Blooms!
My comfy chair where the girls and I read, snuggle, and occasionally enjoy a nap. We have had an unusually cool spring and the throw has been welcomed. A cute bunny pillow begged to be displayed!
Botanic Garden is a true British classic that was designed in 1972 by the celebrated designer, Susan Williams-Ellis. This well-loved pattern is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. The mix and match floral motifs with the iconic triple leaf border were inspired by 19th century botanical illustrations and bring a bit of the garden inside.
The beautiful cherry blossoms and snowball blooms also landed in the cottage from Monday’s flower post. I can’t get enough of the cherry blossoms…their ruffled flowers are so sweet, soft, and delicate!
A vintage tole tray moves around in the cottage and is seen here in the background. I decided to display several books on the counter. Having them near makes it easy to pick up and peruse the pages. I have loved reading since my Daddy took me to the public library in first grade and I signed up for my first library card. My collection of coffee table books number near one hundred. A library is needed at our house!
With the sun pouring in from three windows and French doors, the name Sunshine Cottage seemed very fitting!
It was never my intention for this chair to be permanent in the cottage. I still need to purchase a more comfortable chair, a different rug, and a piece of furniture. I’m not settled on exactly what I want, but I will know it when I see it!
The other piece that has remained on the counter is the silver coffee and tea service that has sweet memories attached. You might notice that it needs polishing.
There are always favorite magazines on the ottoman to be read and enjoyed. I was excited to be featured once again on Southern Lady’s Instagram page. If you have a copy of the May/June edition, I am in the top left corner on page 11.
Thank you for visiting with me in the Sunshine Cottage. Your comments make my day!

Love your spring additions to the Sunshine Cottage Pam! Portmeirion Botanic Garden is my everyday pattern and looks so pretty displayed on your shelves mixed with your bunnies, tole tray and majolica. Love your sweet bunny pillow too! Congrats on your feature, Happy Thursday. ♥

What a feast for the eyes! Pam, there is something beautiful at every turn!! I remember my first library card at age 6 too; we lived not too far from the library and I would hop on my bike every few days for a new stack of books. (Such good memories of safer times). Every time I get my Southern Lady the first thing I check is to see if you were featured, so exciting! I’m off later to have these 23 very itchy staples removed! Recovery is going very very well, praise God.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, we truly have so much in common, even our first library card at age 6. I am so happy your are recovering so well ♥️

And I learned to type on a typewriter like your Daddy’s! There is something so satisfying about a typewriter that you just don’t get with a computer!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I remember learning to type on a newer Underwood, but making a mistake was terrible!

Thanks so much, Penny. Wishing you a beautiful day in paradise!

I always enjoy a peak inside your sweet cottage. I understand about wanting to wait until you find the perfect chair, I often wait long periods of time to find the item I want for a certain area in my home. Congratulations on being featured once again on Southern Lady’s Instagram.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Karen. I agree, waiting is worth it!

What a beautiful breath of spring! You are way ahead of us farther north…..our tulips have just started blooming and the daffodils are finishing up.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Carol. Enjoy spring as it arrives!

I’m enjoying the beautiful weather also. The Sunshine Cottage is full of great light and your shelves are charming for Spring. I also enjoy Botanic Portmerion and my table is set with it for company this weekend.
I’m scared to count how many coffee table books I have. They are one of my weaknesses but when you have to move them to paint it is a painful reminder not to buy anymore.
I wish I had saved my mother’s typewriter but at the time we were moving around and there was no place to keep it.
Delightful post today. Congrats on the Southern Lady feature.
Have a pleasant week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Bonnie. How nice to have company coming and your table is already set. Have a beautiful weekend!

It is definitely Spring in your Sunshine Cottage Pam, and I can easily picture you and the girls snuggling in that comfy chair! I agree, bunnies should abound all Spring long, they’re not just for Easter! I did notice that your tea service does need a little polish, but that made me smile, my silver needs polishing too 😂 All that silver that was gifted back in the days when we got married, my daughter didn’t receive a single piece when she married! Your cottage looks beautiful and what a dish lover’s heaven with all those shelves for decorating and displays. Congrats on the Southern Lady Instagram feature, and enjoy this beautiful weather week!

Thanks so much, Jenna. I strongly dislike having to polish silver. My DIL received no silver and I think she was pleased she didn’t. I know you are loving the weather!

Pam, Sunshine Cottage is the perfect name for your cottage. Enjoyed every little detail and it is particularly beautiful with all the floral arrangements. The Kwanzaa cherry blossoms are breathtakingly beautiful. They are blooming here and they are amazing. Your Portmeirion plates are the perfect Spring feature. I have started to collect the Botanic Garden Birds by Portmeirion. Of course, your Dad’s typewriter is a very special feature in the cottage. I have to go back and look at everything again to take it all in. Congratulations on being featured again. So deserving Pam. Thank you for your wonderful posts.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Dianne. How wonderful to collect the Portmeirion bird plates. Wishing you a wonderful spring!

Pam, The Sunshine Cottage is beautiful! Your bunnies, plates and fresh flowers are all so pretty. Those cherry blossoms are gorgeous! I love the striped chair and the comfy chair. Your throw pillows are so colorful. I’ve had to use a throw several times too recently. It’s been an odd Spring! I saw our first hummingbird today! Yay! Will have them some food ready tomorrow for them, Lord willing! It does seem that you always have a to do list! As we age it seems to get longer instead of shorter! True frustration as a teenager was typing below the allowed bottom margin and having to retype the entire page again on a typewriter. I love computers! 😂 Happy Friday! Clara ❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much, Clara. Yes, I can’t imagine having to use a typewriter now! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

What a most delightful place to spend time in to relax and make memories with your sweet girls!….You always style it with such beauty and creativity. I love every inch of it!…Do I hear a library addition to the house?
Have a great weekend Pam!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Shirley. I have so many honey-do projects, I don’t guess a library is in our immediate future. Happy Weekend!

Leslie Anne, my little cottage (she-shed) is a wonderful little spot to relax!

Despite all that exquisite Portmeirion, I see you could not resist showing blue and white porcelain even in an opened book… and isn’t it, as ever, a lovely complement? Books? Who else has sworn – no more books? We have a library in our home that quickly ran out of shelf space…I suspect it is an inquisitive mind… that is my story and I am sticking to it…don’t suggest addiction …lol. Congratulations on your inclusion in Southern Lady’s instagram… and thank you for showing the adorable flower bedecked bunny pillow ..a real charmer and sweet Daddy’s typewriter… those were the days.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear one. I am going to use your inquisitive mind as my excuse for more books! I hope you are feeling better.

When our grands were little I loved cuddling with them as we would read bedtime stories! Sadly they have outgrown these times but they do love pulling out the comfy blankets, even sometimes their baby blankets while they veg out, watching TV (sports or movies) at our home with the ever present popcorn bowl and bowls of M & M’s & Sour Patch Kids with copious amounts Of soda! Such fun times & cozy times for all of us, when we see into your Sunshine Cottage❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear one. I know you cherish all those memories and you are still making memories with your grands and you always will!

Isn’t it wonderful when you have a husband who actually goes SEARCHING for more projects around the house?!??!?! I married one of those, and he is constantly on the move. That’s a GOOD thing since we wives are always planning new stuff!
Good luck on finding just the right chair for the space. It’s a tough job…sometimes taking months or years🙄…but in the end we have something gorgeous to show for it…and a comfy place to rest our tired bodies!
Everything looks gorgeous, especially that pitcher of cherry blossoms! I love that watering can in the background, too!

I am finally home and catching up on you posts. My elderly neighbor passed away and the family didn’t want many of her furnishing. They put one of her beautiful antique chairs out on the street and it just so happened that I had the same chair. I ran and got it and now it sits newly reupholstered in our living room. It’s gorgeous. It would be beautiful in the Sunshine cottage.
I love silver and own many pieces. I love polishing and playing with them. Many young people don’t enjoy the same things we do and that’s ok but I wonder if in the future they might look back and wish for some of those things. I love your daddy’s typewriter and learned to type on a manual. Oh the cherry blossoms! We had a freeze that ruined our trees.
