“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
Psalm 119:11
Hello to all as we post our final Sunday post for April. Where are the days going? Spring is well underway and we are finally setting out plants and sowing seeds, being confident (at least hopeful) that we are beyond frost at this point!
I made a day trip over to northwest Georgia last week and happened by this farm on a country back road. There’s something appealing about old red barns.
Speaking of frost…I featured our sad Lady Banks rose a couple of weeks back and how barren it looked when it is normally loaded with yellow in early April. We settled in our minds that there would be no blooms this year as a late frost likely took care of that. But to our surprise, blooms started popping out as of late last week. While it is not likely to be as showy as prior years, I must take back all the mean stuff I said about it!
We have 2 fringe trees nearby and they are finally putting on their awesome show. When they are in full bloom it is no trouble to spot one from a distance!
Our Easter lilies were not actual flowers this year but we love these so much more! And Wyatt is all smiles because he is being escorted by his pretty sisters!
This pine warbler has an expression somewhat like I do at times…what was I about to do, or why did I come in here?
And then it dawns on you as it did this particular bird…she’s about to “feather her own nest”!
I zoomed in so I could get a close look at this group and only captured 9 of the 12 that were in this herd in the pic. Pam is thrilled when deer are this close to her garden and they have hungry looks! I’m sure you believe that!
I thought about transplanting some of this to use someplace in the garden as a border. It is called blue-eyed grass and grows wild along one of my trails. It is not really a true grass but before I start transplanting I think it wise to check its status as an invasive. If it propagates by seed it might be ok, but I don’t need anything else that puts out underground stems (rhizomes)!
A section of a new highway near us is almost complete but not yet open. Last year during construction, a crew planted crimson clover along several miles of roadside to prevent erosion. I have never seen clover as tall and thick. I struggled to walk through it and in places it is close to 4 feet high. There are acres of it. It is quite pretty and if pollinators like it they should have plenty to keep them busy!
A lot of it is still not completely filled out and it is still growing. When it does mature I imagine we will have a sea of brown!
Built in 1840, this cabin was one of the earliest pioneer homes in Chattooga County, Georgia. It was restored to this site in Summerville, GA. The home is a good representation of the craftsmanship of that time period.
Along the same trail where the blue-eyed grass grows, is a really nice patch of lance-leaved coreopsis. Easy to see where it gets the name!
One of our country roads is a nice drive anytime, but right now there are quite a few areas of large-leaf phlox along the roadside. Have to enjoy before it fades or the mowers come!
A close inspection reveals why the wild phlox is a welcome addition to a country road!
I put up a new feeder and the first day this grosbeak dropped by. This is not a bird we see very often, and as a matter of fact, this one sighting has been it so far!
The tulip poplars are blooming now but often get overlooked because the blooms do blend in with the large leaves. Not really a poplar, it’s a member of the Magnolia family!
It is hard to get a look into the bloom from the top to see just how pretty this flower is…so PJ pulled a limb down and held it as still as possible to get this view. A limb in one hand and a camera in the other!
Fly me to the moon…on second thought, I’d rather enjoy it from a distance.
Hoping you have a wonderful week to close out the month of April!

Thanks for sharing so much pretty, like the close up of the poplar blossom.
Here in central Va, I see a grosbeak for just a few days until it leaves for its next home. Yesterday, I saw my first hummingbird

Thank you, Gail. The sighting of the first hummingbird of spring is always exciting!

Beautiful photos, Butch. I’m doing a bird count today to finish off the migration counts I can do for April. It’s called Feeder Watch, and you report what you see over a two day period.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I will share that info with him. Thank you, Carole!

Good morning, what a beautiful sunny Sunday here! I can’t believe Wyatt is toddling along with the girls…time indeed is moving fast. Thank you Butch for identifying the tulip poplars; we have lots of them in our woods but I never knew what they were called. That last freeze came just as our azaleas were about to burst forth. All ended well as we are having a spectacular show, so many blooms the leaves barely show!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Good morning, Roxanne. I know you are excited to have the azaleas in full bloom. Have a beautiful Sunday. dear one!

Pam and Butch, The pic of the grands is delightful! I’m so glad your Lady Banks roses bloomed! Yay! We have a yellow bush rose blooming which I discovered yesterday. I love tulip poplar trees! I’m glad to know they’re part of the magnolia family. We’ll be planting seeds this week. Love all the colorful Spring shots. Our state uses red clover too along the highways. I love red barns too! Have a wonderful day! Clara❤️

Your fringe tree is lovely. We always call them “old man’s beard.” Looks like it is a male version, as I see no fruit.

Pam and Butch, your Sabbath photos are a treasured gift through you from the Lord….so inspired and inspiring. What
was thought to be lost is now found blooming in vibrant hues. The swath of crimson clover is such a great way to “pretty up” the roadside while doing the practical work of soil erosion… to be able to create beauty while taking care
of the practicalities of life… what an accomplishment… The youngster are a joy to behold – Wyatt is a heart opener
with his exuberance (makes one want to giggle) and the girls grow more lady-like each time. I visit Paradiso and
its inhabitants and return assured that “all is still aright with our world”… thanks to your beautiful corner. A blessed
Sabbath, dear ones.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Mary, thank you always for your encouraging comments. Sending love and wishes for a beautiful week!
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Such a lovely post, Pam and Butch. We see many log homes quite similar to the one in your photo all among our hills. They always speak to me and I wish they could talk with me about their life.
Those little ones are more precious with every photo. Ella looks as though she may have her hands full and Wyatt is always full of smiles.
We are finally seeing spring and it is a welcome sight. My peonies are still in tight bud, but I know beauty is on the way. Enjoy a lovely day and week, sweet friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Sandra. I know you are excited about peony season, so am I. Happy week to you my friend!

Wonderful garden and surrounding countryside updates. The kids are so adorable! I have a friend in town who posted this morning that an entire flock of red breasted grosbeaks landed in his yard to feed. So how long did it take them to migrate up from AL? ☺️ Have a great new week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Rita. We have become bird watchers. Wishing you a great week!

What a lovely and interesting red barn! And that photo of Wyatt and the girls… his smile would light a whole room or house or maybe even the whole town! If only would could get our energy quota through the eyes and smile of a child like that1

Thanks so much, Jeanie. Our little guy smiles all the time,he is a happy little boy!

Well, I have to say I have the same feelings as Pam does when the deer appear. Lately, they have been brazen enough to enter my patio and help themselves to my potted plants. It can be very frustrating when you have worked so hard. Your “Easter Lillies” are absolutely precious! I’m sure they had a big time hunting Easter eggs. I hope you both have a wonderful week ahead!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Shannon, the pesky deer, rabbits, squirrels, and armadillos, what’s a gardener to do? How horrible the deer are eating your potted plants on the patio. Enjoy your week sweet friend!

I love all the pics in this post you two! Butch, you are right in that there is nothing like old red barns – so nostalgic. It looks like spring is fully underway in your neck of the woods and you’ve captured it beautifully! Must look up rhizomes lol. Here, our cherry trees are about to leaf – I’m predicting in the next week to 10 days if we don’t get any more snow (fingers crossed). I hope you have a lovely week!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Kim. I hope spring comes soon to your neck of the woods!
