Hello sweet friends. Since, I sort of promised a garden update, I got busy and took photos on Tuesday!
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
Psalm 119:103
RM and I decided that spring is about two weeks later than normal. It is really noticeable with the size of the sunshine ligustrums and limelight hydrangeas that grow at the back of the garden fence.
The blooms around the bronze centerpiece were not nearly as prolific as last year. Of course, they are gone now.
Spirea japonica or “Little Princess” is in bloom around our front sidewalk!
Our peonies are just about spent, but they have been absolutely gorgeous. Sarah Bernhardt was planted in 2020 and had a few blooms last year, but she outdid herself this year!
The Sarah Bernhardt is one of the strongest growers and most reliable bloomers. I am estimating we had 30 blooms.
Peonies are one of the most durable and longest lived plants!
Festiva Maxima is a dependable double peony for Southern gardens…
…and it has a delightful fragrance!
Karl Rosenfield is a classic peony variety with double blooms in a vibrant fuchsia-red color!
We planted two of the Karl Rosenfield peonies in 2019. They didn’t bloom until last year. We estimate with our four peony bushes, we had more than a hundred blooms this year!
Renaissance Man gave the tuteurs a fresh coat of paint. The plants surrounding this one are vanilla-strawberry hydrangeas! They grow really large each year after a heavy pruning!
This little section was taken over by EM and EK. RM named it the Grand Garden. It will be moved when they have their own little garden space. We will make an attempt to grow heirloom pumpkins. I let the girls choose the seeds from the catalogue. I am hoping they will grow and not be eaten by the coyotes. Yikes, we do have coyotes! And yes, coyotes will eat pumpkins, but prefer watermelons!
I have never had any success with geraniums. This is a Vancouver centennial geranium that some sources say is a perennial. Other sources call it an annual. I guess time will tell!
We planted three snowflake hydrangeas last fall near the picnic table and in front of the split rail fence. I am hoping they will bloom this year and the deer will leave them alone.
I didn’t share what is going on in the cottage garden. RM has been working really hard. We have planted a lot of seeds…zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, dara, and wildflowers to attract bees and hummingbirds. We are seeing zinnias, cosmos, and sunflowers sprouting.
I almost forgot, the apricot drift roses are in bloom and their fragrance is lovely! How is your garden growing?
Thank you for your visit and gracious comments. Wishing you a joy-filled day!

Pam, your garden looks so beautiful! I planted peonies for the first time this year and will be patiently waiting form them to bloom…in 2-3 years.
I am looking forward to updates on the pumpkin patch, I hope the coyotes. don’t eat them all.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful oasis.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much. It does take patience with peonies. Have a beautiful weekend!
Mary says
Good morning, Pam. Love seeing your garden blooms! Your garden is ahead of ours by about 2 weeks. Sarah Bernhardt is my favorite peony and ours are just starting to bloom. Love seeing the ‘Grand Garden’ 😊 I have always wanted to plant pumpkins but don’t have the space for them to sprawl unless we remove some grass. Personally, I think grass is overrated but the mister disagrees. I look forward to seeing your crop of seeds and pumpkins and hope the coyotes leave them alone. Happy Thursday ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Mary. Hubby loves teaching the girls about plants and wildlife. Hopefully, coyotes will leave them alone!
Lorrie says
From the PNW I so miss hydrangeas, rhodies and Peonies! Love the pictures.

Thanks so much, Lorie.

Thank you, Linda! Wishing you a lovely weekend!

I love peonies! Yours are beautiful. I don’t have a garden anymore, now that I live in my condo in Florida. I only have a raised planter filled with herbs. My herbs are doing wonderful!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Penny, living in Florida has many rewards. I love growing herbs!
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
Wow, your flowers are gorgeous as usual. Love those peonies.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Carole!

Would have never thought Alabama would have coyotes! I think of those out here. And eating pumpkins and watermelons. So we have southern coyotes now! Occasionally I see them walking down the street and also fox but they behave and stay out of the yard so far. Your garden is beautiful and it shows the hard work you and Butch have put into it. We are a month behind you so very few blooms here. But I have good news, the Honeycrisp apple tree has a few blossoms for the first time in three years. Yea!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, so happy the honeycrisp apple has a few blossoms. The coyotes are a real menace here. We often hear them at night with their eerie sound. Have a lovely weekend!
Roxanne Bernard says
Everything looks so beautiful! Who knew coyotes like pumpkins and watermelon! They are really becoming a problem here too. Love the Grand Garden, EM and EK are so creative. I’m hoping when I see the neurosurgeon next week, he says I can ride my mower (I am really picky and nobody mows the yard as well as I do!)
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, don’t you overdo. I know you are picky and no one does it the exact way we want! Wishing you a lovely weekend!
Lisa | Handmade in Israel says
Your garden looks incredible! The peonies are amazing. I hope the geraniums come back for you. The leaves look nice and healthy!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Lisa. Time will tell!
Kari says
Love your beautiful gardens Pam….I love geraniums and this year I found yellow ones on a rare trip to the nursery. I have never seen a yellow….and I (I mean my Captain) planted a lilac bush in a planter that is supposed to work here in Florida. Not quite the same as far as fragrance…and blooms…but better than none at all. Blessings sweet friend
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Kari. I have never seen a yellow geranium. I wish we could grow lilacs, way too hot. Enjoy your weekend!
Clara says
Pam, Your garden is gorgeous! The Grand Garden is so cute. It’s wonderful that the children are interested in carrying on traditions and learning about gardening. A stroll through your beautifully manicured garden is always delightful! Stay cool; we’re breaking records here. Clara❤️

Thank you dearest Clara. Wishing you a lovely weekend, stay cool!

Hi Pam,
I miss my peonies at my old home. They did not bloom for long but they were gorgeous. Yours are just beautiful. xoxo Kris
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, peonies have a short bloom time and vase life. Happy Weekend, Kris!
the Painted Apron says
so many beautiful blooms, and I have serious peony envy! Everything seems to thrive with your and Butch’s very green thumbs! HHjr did plant a ton of flowers over Mother’s Day weekend, most are his favorite combo of Roll Tide red and white, but I did buy some pink and white geraniums which are planted together in 2 large pots flanking the outdoor kitchen and they make me smile every time I see them. I love the girls Grand Garden full of whimsical fun, and fingers crossed your pumpkin patch will be full next Fall!
Jenna
Pam @ Everyday Living says
How funny that HHjr plants in Roll Tide colors. However, red and white is a stunning combo. I am so hopeful we will have pumpkins and if we have a good crop, we might let the girls earn some money by selling them.

Of course, you are ahead of us, but spring is late here as well. But seeing your garden gives me a wonderful sneak preview of what awaits! (Not in my yard, unfortunately!) Yours is so beautiful and I can see in all that beauty the very hard work that it takes. Gorgeous, Pam. In every way.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Jeanie. I could not do by myself, I have the best RM!
barefootlilylady says
My peonies are way behind yours, but should be gaining ground soon, as we seem to have skipped spring and jumped right into summer heat. ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ is super reliable in my garden. I took a digging of one very large clump last year and moved it to another area of the garden. I hope it will do well.
I always love your garden updates. You and RM have so much talent for creating beautiful spaces. I look forward to seeing more updates through the summer months.
Have a blessed week,
Cindie
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Cindie, you are so sweet. Gardening is a lot of sweat and patience. Can’t wait to see your peonies!
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
Pam, that is so impressive about your peony blooms. Wow, over a hundred blooms! I know you enjoyed all the pretty bouquets they made. I am discovering that gardening takes oodles of patience. It may take a few years before something blooms. My oak leaf hydrangea is finally blooming after a couple of years of TLC. I usually have really good luck with geraniums. So, that has been the main flower that I have planted in my pots this year. Our spring has been late as well, but I think we may be skipping spring and going straight into summer. It was 91 today with high humidity. Oh well, I will sure take this over winter. As always, your gardens are gorgeous in any season! I so enjoyed my visit today! Take care, sweet friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Shannon. I am glad your oak leaf is blooming this year. Gardening is a lot of patience, I have discovered!

Oh the peonies…be still my heart. Simply a joy to view. Indoors or out, you and your beloved create such beautiful spaces for living and the patio dining in that exquisite garden must fill your souls’ spirits for the week.
Just love the Grand Garden filled with childhood delights and it would probably garner a blue ribbon in any
garden show. Great work, EM & EK !!

Thank you, Mary. The girls love the “Grand” garden. Have a lovely weekend dear one!
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Pam, I believe spring is late everywhere. I have not potted my urns as of yet, as we have nights still in the 40’s. My plants are patiently waiting in the garage. In your area,(I learned this from my time in VA.) Geraniums are not happy in afternoon sunlight. I place my pots in a space that receives sun in the morning and shade to filtered light in the afternoon. I do not know anything about the variety you have – but you might try my method if it does not seem happy. They are also heavy feeders. Enjoy the spring, even though she is a bit mixed up this year.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Sandra. I knew that about geraniums, but for some reason I still have no luck with them. Hopefully. you can plant your urns soon!
Bonnie Morgan says
Pam, everything is so beautiful! I know you have been so excited about having so many peonies this year. They are gorgeous. I love the varieties you selected. Your apricot drift roses looked spectacular as your tea table backdrop.
Y’all are top notch gardeners. I hope you have a large yield of pumpkins. Fun to teach the girls at an early age about gardening.
I enjoyed your post. Sorry, I am late but am at the beach with family.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Bonnie. The girls love to learn and Butch loves to teach them.
