Happy Thursday, sweet friends. Spring has been wonderful, but short lived. It seems summer has arrived, and it usually comes early in the South.
“But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.”
Psalm 103:17-18
You may remember that I warned you in March when we celebrated EK’s birthday that there would be two more. Not to break a promise, we celebrated WL in April and today we celebrate our oldest grandchild who had her sixth birthday last week. How can she be six?
Ella Mae is our brown-eyed girl! If you are a long time reader you probably remember when our EM was born. How exciting it was to finally be grandparents. Yes, we are still excited!
I am only sharing a few photos from the past year. My darling EM is always interested in learning manners and she asks a lot of questions. She is pouring tea from a tea set she received from PJ when she turned five!
EM is the best big sister! She loves her little sister and brother and is very protective. This is one of my favorite photos taken last summer in my zinnia and sunflower garden!
EM is an outdoorsy girl who loves to camp and hike! She’s made her way to a nice summit in the Colorado Rockies!
As children grow, you can see their character traits developing. EM is loving, kind, and compassionate. Ella Mae and I went on a girls shopping spree two days before her birthday. She took a long time to choose a few things and was so careful about the money I was spending. She is very sensitive.
EM and I were hanging out in the Sunshine Cottage here, as we often do. She loves the cottage, especially sleepovers!
We took many photos at her fun birthday party, and she was always surrounded by friends. I guess there were twenty-five children present. Her amazing Mama made the cake, had crafts for the children, organized a fun scavenger hunt, among many other things, and handled it all with ease. Grandparents just said “whew”!
This was last August…seems like yesterday. I just cannot believe she will be in first grade this year. This coming Sunday, she will graduate from kindergarten. Proud grandparents wouldn’t miss it!
In my opinion (which is totally unbiased), she looks like a little Southern princess in her camellia Christmas dress!
Saturday evening we will attend her first ballet recital, “Sleeping Beauty”!
Da and I found a pink bicycle with a “hot pink” basket and since these are Ella Mae’s favorite colors, it had to come home with us last week. It is a bigger bike with no training wheels and she has done so well learning to ride a taller, heavier bike. EM was proudly showing us her accomplishments. Da and PJ are pushovers when it comes to her and our little ones!
She brings us great joy. It is truly a blessing to be given precious time and opportunity to be a part of her life and the lives of our other grandchildren. It is a sweet thing to have them live nearby, something we don’t take for granted. Many parents and grandparents are separated from their children and grandchildren by many miles!
God is good and we are thankful for the gift of Ella Mae!

Such sweet photos and memories! She is such a beautiful angel, and so lucky to have her loving grandparents so close by! Sometimes when I’m looking back for a recipe or something from the archives and run across pictures of my grands when they were much younger, I just can’t believe how they’ve grown and changed! I love the recent shopping trip story, CC {who just turned 9} asked me for clothes from her favorite store {Gigi’s in Cahaba Heights} and I had so much fun picking out what I thought she would like {and that my daughter would approve 😂} Next time I will just take her with me, you must have had such a special day! Happy Birthday to EM 🌷

Happy Birthday, Miss Ella Mae, and congratulations on your graduation from Kindergarten! Sweet Pam, Miss Ella Mae was a pretty baby, and she is growing up to be a beautiful girl. Her sweet smile is just precious. I know you are so proud of her. You brought a happy tear to my eye when I read your post. I loved my grandparents so much, and I miss them everyday. They were so good to me and reading about you and EM going shopping brought back such happy memories. My birthday was always close to the start of school, and part of my present was going to lunch and school clothes shopping with both my grandmothers. I was blessed as well to have them living close by. I wish you a happy rest of your week, dear friend!
