“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-6
I prefer sunshine on my shoulders, but let’s face it, every day is just not going to be sunny. Sometimes the clouds are rollin’ in!
The garden area began undergoing some expansion last week as new construction is now underway. It is a work in progress. PJ documented the beginnings in a post last week. Have a look here if you missed it.
I’ve noticed that blue flowers aren’t as common as many other colors. We found these heat loving plants called “Blue My Mind”. The blooms open wide in the morning but begin to close by mid-afternoon. A little research revealed the reason… this is a dwarf morning glory.
As I was reading about the blue flowers above, it occurred to me that there were blue flowers on vines that were growing throughout the pumpkin patch. The hairy clustervine is native to the southeast and guess what? You are correct; it is in the morning glory family and often called small-flower morning glory. The flowers are described as a delicate sky-blue and each one only blooms for a day.
While doing some video work for local clients, Appalachian Media grabbed some neat aerial shots south of our downtown. Lakes and rivers are plentiful in northeast Alabama.
PJ and I planted a group of bulbs and only one came up. On top of that, the lone plant had only provided a stalk with some nice leaves…until almost overnight last week this lily appeared. I take back all the bad things I said about “Dizzy” the Oriental Lily!
I definitely have many reasons to get up and get moving every day the Lord allows, but here are 3 that top the list! And for certain, they help keep me active.
The grands and I planted pumpkins in June and they have been following the progress. I have been reporting the “pumpkin progress” for several weeks now. We are starting to see variety.
When I was a kid, yo-yos were made out of wood. The reason I point this out is so our younger readers will understand the following statement concerning our tulip magnolia tree. The tree is “as confused as a termite in a yo-yo”. This was yesterday. It blooms in February and early March!
Thanks to Appalachian Media, we can monitor the ongoing nearby four lane construction which will eventually route most of the traffic further away from us. Road building is a slow process. I believe this 5 mile stretch is going to take about 3 years!
Of course summer will be around for a bit longer but the Autumn Fire Sedum is showing some signs of preparing for fall!
These are my selections for August look-a-likes. Will the real mimosa please stand up! On the bottom is a legume called partridge pea, growing wild around our place and currently blooming. In the middle is one we are not fond of and it is appropriately called gripeweed. I also refer to it as “little mimosa”. Definitely a garden invader. As you might have already guessed, the mimosa is on top. While these are very different plants in many ways, the leaves do look similar.
The wild mountain mint typically begins to bloom in August and is a butterfly magnet. I am seeing a lot of it now in open areas and edges when I hike the trails behind the house.
This week we take you back to 2015, and a nice cityscape of Newcastle, England!
Praying you have a blessed week. Thanks for stopping by!

Oh Butch, you certainly know how to enhance and enlarge Eden. It is progressing
beautifully. Another Sunday of discovery and blessing from Everyday Living.. Just
love that portrait with the Children and the bounty coming along in their pumpkin patch. “Get up and get moving everyday the Lord allows.” is the perfect mantra for
living and one to embrace. A blessed and fulfilling Sabbath to you and our Pam.

Thanks so much, Mary. I know you are enjoying the time with family. Treasure every moment♥️

Love the “Blue My Mind” blooms and hope I can find them here in the north (or OK for our climate.) I adore that photo of you and the grands, Butch. And three cheers on the garden expansion!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much. I really love the “Blue My Mind”. I read where they love hot weather. Happy Sunday,
Pam

Now that is a lap full of love Butch! What a blessing you have so close to you. The seasons are confused. Tulip magnolia trees are confused. It’s what the Word calls “what was right will be wrong and what was wrong will be right” . We carry on and in so doing we keep loving, working, hoping. That’s what I see you doing Butch. Even what we call weeds are beautiful and your eye catches the blooms. Thank you always for the glorious shots of the evening sky.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Alice. We love having our family living so close ♥️
Blessings,
Pam

I always learn something I need to know from Butch! All the weeds and wildflowers I see pop up and wonder about, Butch has the answer. Weeds seem to be what I grow best. And speaking of weeds, the grands are growing like weeds!! Have a wonderful week and hope you get rain!

Thank you, Roxanne!

Butch and Pam, The garden expansion looks like it is going well. Your pic with the grands is great! I noticed the blue flowers on a previous post and loved it. Now that I know the name, I’m thrilled! The deer ate our sedums this year due to the drought but I hope they come back out next year as the left the roots. Road building is such a slow process but thank goodness it’s further away from you rather than closer. I love the architecture of England! Happy Sunday! We’re getting rain storms currently so the clouds rolling in pic was spot on! Clara ❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Clara, the deer were really a menace with all of your plants this year, I am so sorry. We have had clouds for days, but no rain.
Happy week,
Pam

Remember one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and the same goes for flowers/weeds.
Living in N.M., we had many “flowers” that were considered weeds. Indian Paint Brush is one good and pretty example. Thank you to both of you for identifying so many “flowers” for us. And treasure every moment with those grands…too soon they grow up! Love your Sunday posts.

The pumpkins are doing great! Seems like our I-64 has been being worked on since 1970, no joke. RIght now they’re widening a 2 lane to 4 lane section east-west that’s about 45 mile stretch, including a bridge. It’s a treacherous area, wrecks all the time.
Have a great week. The garden expansion looks great too!

Those Blue on My Mind flowers are lovely. Sometime you just need some blue for a bouquet! But I suppose they don’t do well once cut.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you… they don’t make for pretty cut flowers. But, I do love their color!

Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Kim. I wish the Blue My Minds could be used as a cut flower. I do love their color. I hope your week is going well.

Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Good morning, Butch and Pam. Love all the photos, but those three beautiful children always are at the top of my list. Your lily reminded me of my garden in VA. We had a terrible time there with voles. One morning on my way to work, I had a bed of lilies by the garage, and I noticed two that were about to bloom. I thought, ” they will be blooming when I come home.” However, a vole had other ideas and you could see the hole where he pulled them down through. Good lunch, I suppose. Your garden expansion will be wonderful and the children will be screaming with delight over their pumpkins this fall. Such a wonderful treat for them – memories they will cherish.
Sorry, I am late. Hospital visits mean doctor visits – too many.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you sweet, Sandra. Voles are another terrible menace. I hope you are regaining your strength and every day you are improving ♥️

Pam and Butch, the gardens in your pretty corner of the world sure are lovely. Butch is doing a fantastic job on the enlarging project. I love, love, LOVE the arbor design. Those grands sure are sweet. I love having my 4 of our grands close too. We just celebrated the 10th birthday of our youngest grandson…how can THAT be?! Thanks for your lovely posts — I try not to miss any of them. I always learn something new and am inspired to try new things too.
Blessed,
Cindie

Cindie, thank you so much. Butch works so hard. Grandchildren are the reward for growing old. I know it means the world to have them close.
