Hello sweet friends. I am joining a group of table stylists for a Welcome Fall Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my lovely friend, Rita at Panoply. We are sharing ideas and tabletop inspiration for your fall gatherings. With thoughts of cool crisp air, leaves of flaming color, pumpkin spice everything, and snuggling up to a cozy fire…I am anxiously awaiting autumn’s arrival. After all, it is my favorite season!
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”
2 Thessalonians 3:16
Autumn is my favorite time to set a table in the garden!
“It was a beautiful bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it.”
~Diana Gabaldon
I had this really bright (?) idea to incorporate a log as a container for flowers. My Renaissance Man looked rather skeptical when I asked him if he could make that happen. As you can see, he did!
You will find the links for all the participants at the bottom of this post.
An autumnal plaid throw was used as a casual tablecloth. Burlap placemats, distressed wooden chargers, majolica dinner plates, and octagonal Spode “woodlands” salad plates complete the stack.
A pecan log (calorie-free) was hollowed out and wet foam was placed inside to support and hydrate the flowers.
Completing each place setting are copper flatware, favorite fall stemware, and amber-colored napkin rings with plaid napkins! You might notice that I mixed two plaids…tablecloth and napkins!
A neat thing about the pecan log is its origin. It is from a large limb of a tree down on the lower 40 that was easily over 75 years old. The tree was dying and sadly had to be taken down. So, to say the log was “homemade” is true in more ways than one!
The four plates represent four American birds…(left to right) wood duck, quail, pheasant, and mallard.
The table is nestled next to the adagio maiden grasses that provide a textural background
Sunflowers from yesterday’s Monday Morning Blooms were added to flowers and greenery that I cut from the garden… including zinnias, lantana, nandina, rosemary, variegated Liriope blooms, broccoli, and a turkey tail feather!
My RM has been expanding the garden. He has extended the depth and width, added new fencing, and built an arbor for the side entrance. He has completed the majority of his to-do-list of gardening chores since his retirement!
Removing the salad plates allowed the majolica to stand out against the rustic brown palette!
“Autumn is the season to find contentment at home by paying attention to what we already have.”
~Unknown

Pam, What a creative way to reuse your tree, as a log centerpiece for flowers! Love your warm plaid throw for a cozy foundation for your table. Your Spode Woodland birds are perfect for your fall table and alfresco setting with their pretty hexagonal shape. Your dish layers are so pretty framed by the burlap placemats. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table, Happy Tuesday. ♥

RM created your visit perfectly, Pam! Your outdoor tablescape awaiting autumn certainly makes me anxious to want to be there, outside, enjoying the beauty of your garden and all the table details. Your love for the season is infectious! Those Spode plates are classic beauties, as are the majolica. I adore mixing patterns, and the two plaids are so complementary of each other. The burlap layered on top is a nice rustic touch. Your stemware is one of my favorites of yours as well! Beautiful table, beautiful view. Thank you for bringing your talent (and RM’s!) To this blog hop!

Just beautiful! The log brings back memories of 3rd grade. My teacher had her husband drill holes in logs for candles and we decorated them for Christmas presents for our mothers. So I can’t wait to see what you do with yours at Christmas. So happy that fall is on its way. Have a blessed day.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Bobbie, thanks for sharing your sweet memory. What a wonderful 3rd grade teacher you had.
Kari says
Brilliant idea Pam to use a log with a story to tell as your centerpiece. One thing many don’t realize is that one only gets busier when one retires, as there are always so many projects and honey-do’s on a list or in the backs of our minds. I love your table with the new garden area in the background. Yay RM! Your plate stack is perfect, as is the mixing of the plaids. Did I tell you I finally planted my zinnia seeds and they are coming up fast…remember our growing season is year ’round herein SW Florida so should have flowers soon. Happy Autumn and Blessings Always
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Kari, you are correct about retirement, we are busier than ever. Yay, you will enjoy the zinnias. Thank you, my friend!

The log cum centerpiece container is sheer genius and lucky you to have RM to bring your splendid ideas to fruition. I love red tartan for Christmas and now have slated autumnal hued plaid for the Fall base table layering…You do inspire. The longshot of the table in the garden with a gimpse of the new fence is magazine-worthy. Love the way Butch sculpts the grass around the stepping slates.
What combined creative gifts you share with us…. I walk away richer every time. Bless you.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Mary. I do love plaid for the autumn season. RM spends a lot of time on the sculpting of the grass. Happy Wednesday, my friend!

Pam, I have to start with that centrepiece! What a wonderful way to use a fallen tree branch! I will definitely be borrowing that idea. Those Spode plates are just darling, and the perfect highlight of your lovely plate stack. I love copper flatware and all the warmth it brings to the table. And, I would be amiss if I didn’t mention the stunning backdrop! Our temps have dropped considerably and I can feel autumn is in the air!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Maureen. I appreciate your sweet comments!
Debbee says
Pam your tablescape is perfect for fall in the garden! What a fantastic idea to use the pecan log and flowers from the garden to create a unique centerpiece. Adding the feather was a clever added touch! Hope you hold onto the log for future use. Everything comes together for a lovely season table.

Thanks so much, Debbee. I will definitely use the log again!
Chloe Crabtree says
Pam, I always enjoy a visit to your lovely garden, it is such a perfect spot for an outdoor table setting! The pecan log was a genius idea! That is so wonderful that your husband was able to accommodate you! I bet you will use that again and again for different seasonal centerpieces! One of the reasons i love this time of year is the opportunity to use seasonal throws as tablecloths, and yours makes a lovely one! You are so brave and did such a lovely job mixing your two plaids! I have such a hard time doing that! Happy Fall! It may not be Autumn by the calendar, but it is in many of our hearts!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Chloe. I plan to use the log again. I like that it has a story. I agree it is already autumn in my heart!
Gwedhen Nicholas says
I too feel that Autumn is special. I love your use of plaid, and throws for tablecloths…so inventive! The Pecan wood log is neat too.

This may be one of the most clever ideas ever! The log really does give a feeling of Fall, and the linens and tableware are perfection. And I love that this pecan log is sugar free!!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Roxanne. I knew you would “get” the pecan log being sugar free!
Clara says
Pam, The tablescape is beautiful. The pecan log bouquet is really pretty and a great way to display Fall flowers. When it was hollowed out, did you put the flowers directly in it or in cups within the hollowed out space? I think it’s a great way to preserve a piece of the tree! Love the bird plates and their shape. Have a great week! Clara❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Clara. I used wet foam to hold the flowers. Cups would also work ♥️
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
Pam, your early autumn table is gorgeous! Butch did a wonderful job on the pecan log floral container. Your arrangement looks gorgeous in it! I always love it when you use the plaid throw. It makes such a pretty underpinning for a fall table. We are in Highlands, NC this week, and I am seeing some early fall colors and cooler temps. It has me so excited for autumns arrival. I hope you have a most wonderful week ahead, my sweet friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Shannon. Plaids are perfect for autumn. Enjoy Highlands, sweet friend!
Kim says
Pam, where to start? I love this table! First, the log centerpiece is just stunning and even more so since the branch from the tree is 75 years old. Wow – and what a great job RM did of hollowing it out for those beautiful flowers. It lends a rustic look to the table, especially with the plaid throw, the burlap placemats, and the distressed chargers. And then there are the lovely majolica plates and those gorgeous Spode plates, and your beautiful goblets complete the picture. Really, really lovely! Hope some cooler temps are headed your way for your soon to be favorite season! Happy Tuesday!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Kim, thank you for your sweet comments. Are you seeing signs of autumn?

More beautiful stemware! Another sign to look for some tomorrow! Fall is my favorite season, too. Today, it is cooler here in the mountains, and as one of my favorite Clint Black songs says, “You can surely feel a change in the air!” I was just sitting here thinking how many autumns God has allowed me to see, and how I praise Him for sparing me to see another one. He has been so merciful to me and far better to me than I will ever deserve. How I praise Him this morning!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Amen and Amen! Thank you, Cheryl!

Love LOVE your majolica plates! They’re perfect for a garden table. Love the use of amber in the glassware and napkin rings, a perfect transition from the yellows and topaz of summer. The pièce de résistance of course is the intriguing wood base for your centerpiece of charming flowers! I’ve not seen the octagonal form of Spode’s Woodland pattern before — it’s a casual change of pace from the usual round plates. With today’s cooler weather autumn might just be around the corner!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Sandra. I plan on using the log again, maybe at Christmas! Hope your trip was wonderful!
