“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39
September Morn…do you know that song? Neil Diamond? A foggy start to a morning last week but the day turned out quite nice. The fog revealed a lot about the nighttime activity in the garden.
Fog can really be problematic, but without early morning fog, this intricate work would never be seen.
The crepe myrtles literally appear to be completely wrapped in a silky mesh. I am amazed at the amount of activity that seems to happen overnight. Maybe the fog only reveals what has taken days to build but I sorta believe spiders work fast and furious.
I thought this one had an unusual shape and I can see a hint of autumn color showing up in the background!
People buy fake webs for their bushes as decoration for Halloween. We aren’t into the Halloween thing, but if we were, maybe our local insects, plus a little fog, would provide the look for free?
PJ noticed the autumn fire sedum is beginning to take on beautiful shades of rose and pink. These plants typically provide great fall color. The bumble bees have discovered it also!
EK is enjoying the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This was a “school” trip and she was joined by big sister and little brother…and of course their teacher (mommy)!
EM told me that two of their favorite flowers at the botanical Gardens were black-eyed Susan and beauty berry. She listened well. I was able to show her and EK that we had beauty berry around the house that they could enjoy.
Nearby Noccalula Falls Park is an attraction in northeast Alabama that draws many visitors and has a lot to offer. I stopped by for a short visit last week. This is Black Creek and the footbridge that joins two sections of the park. Notice the two signs on the bridge. They give a firm warning against venturing down the creek…
…and this for good reason. You may notice the creek seems to disappear but it actually does…
…this, for about 90 feet.
The name Noccalula is based on a Native American legend and a story about Princess Noccalula. The story tells of her love for a member of her own tribe but her father, the Chief, arranged her marriage to another. Adorned in festive wedding attire, she took a lover’s leap into the chasm by rushing waters. Her remorseful father gave the cascade his daughters name. The statue is a reminder of the legendary leap. You can read the complete story at noccalulafallspark.com.
The chapel is used for weddings. A campground as well as a number of hiking and biking trails are located in this area of the park. Historic bridges, buildings, a train ride, gardens, a veterans memorial and other attractions are also in the park. The lights at Christmas are truly awesome. Check ahead on a visit for the holiday lights. I do believe, to control crowds, the park schedules entrance times when you purchase your online ticket.
When I crossed the footbridge I noticed dozens of locks along the railing. The first time I remember taking notice of these “love locks” on a bridge was in Italy. The most famous bridge for locks is in Paris, with so many it damaged the bridge and sections had to be removed. Maybe Noccalula’s love story influenced the local lovebirds to express themselves with a padlock? Not necessarily an attractive site but certainly better than leaping from the falls!
Ironweed is a striking native wildflower in our September landscape. The name comes from its tough iron-like stem!
Hiking the trails yesterday I was greeted by a lot of yellow. From a distance all the flowers look the same but a closer look reminded me of what I forget from year to year. Two members of the sunflower family are native to our region and they are found side by side in abundance in late summer, early fall. This is Bearded beggarticks, sometimes called Tickseed sunflower…
…while this one, growing a few feet away, is a woodland sunflower!
If our long range weather forecast holds true, this type summer sky will give way to drier air, all sun, and cooler temps beginning Tuesday and continue for the remainder of the week. I’m hoping! That would be typical September in the southeast.
Have a wonderful week!

Spider webs do seem to pop up overnight this time of year! EK’s hair has gotten so long! She looks so pretty with those curls! I did not know the story behind Noccalula Falls, how tragic~ such a beautiful park nearby for you to enjoy. Interesting about the locks on the bridge like those famous lock bridges in Europe… Looking forward to the weather predicted this week, sounds lovely!

EM and EK being taught by their mother brought brought a smile to my face. Praise God for mothers ! The fog brings memories of times I was guided by our Heavenly Father home safely. I love the water fall. It’s beautiful and dangerous like the fog. The yellows in the wild and the purple are beautiful. They are sometimes weeds. But I’ve gathered them and made pretty flower arrangements for the house. Have a blessed and safe week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, what many consider weeds can make beautiful arrangements. Have a lovely Sunday, Alice

The depth of nature’s exacting, yet fluid, creativity, boggles the mind and imagination….the spider
web in all its complex symmetry came from a tiny creature supposedly lower than the angels….
and how well you capture such beauty. Emma looks like she is having great fun in “discovering”..
The pictures of the wildflowers are so lovely and how enlightening are the lessons that accompany
them… seen through your eyes. The church is the perfect Sabbath highlight of Romans and
your September Morn Garden of Eden. Blessed.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Mary! I also enjoy the complexity of the tiny spider webs, amazing. Happy Sunday 🍁

I couldn’t believe his choice of words. so cute. Blessings always

That first photo looks “ethereal.” That is the word that popped into my head when I first saw it! LOL! Heaven-like is what came to mind. I just imagine Heaven must have spots like your garden. It is just so beautiful. I love little EK’s dress. It is so cute! And she just gets prettier by the day. The story of the Indian princess is so sad! Thank you for all the interesting things you include in your posts. It is always such a joy to come here to your site. God bless you all.
