Merry Monday, sweet friends. Christmas 2022 is almost here!
“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.””
Matthew 1:21
Welcome to a Sunshine Cottage Christmas! Rain and dark clouds have prevented me from taking photos and sharing the cottage. Finally, on Thursday, we had a day of sunshine!
The small Goebel nativity was a gift from my Mother many years ago. It usually stays in my bookcase during Christmas. But, I decided to place it in the Sunshine Cottage, and when EM and EK are a little older, I will pass it down.
The beautiful pillow and festive tablecloth are from April Cornell.
This is my greeting and welcome this Christmas season as I open the cottage door. I extend that welcome to you…come inside for a visit!
I have so many collections and the cottage gives me the opportunity to display some of them. Steinbach nutcrackers parade on the shelves with Robert Stanley salad plates. The Steinbach’s are handmade in the Ore Mountains of Germany with great attention to detail.
RM cut Leyland cypress for the shelves…I love using fresh greenery whenever I can. The cypress doesn’t produce sap or shed as much as pine or cedar.
The trio of carolers have been around for many years. EM says the one on the right is her, EK is on the left, and WL is in the middle!
Fitz and Floyd Santa’s and “Winter Holiday” china pattern line the shelves on the right-hand side of the cottage!
Our son, daughter-in-love, and grandchildren’s Christmas card finds a place of honor on my Daddy’s old Underwood typewriter!
“Who can add to Christmas? The perfect motive is that God so loved the world. The perfect gift is that He gave His only Son. The only requirement is to believe in Him. The reward of faith is that you shall have everlasting life.”
~Corrie Ten Boom
When considering how to decorate the cottage tree, I was easily influenced by some little folks to choose the food ornaments. I knew the girls would love them…and they do!
A few close-ups…I kept the ornaments from the past two years and used them also. I don’t do themes for any of my trees, except the dining room. I love mixing things up!
Snuggles, our son’s childhood bear, is a permanent resident of the Sunshine Cottage!
My chair is very comfortable when I can find the time to relax. There are always new magazines to enjoy as well as books to read with the girls. EM is mainly reading to me these days!
EM placed all the Byer’s carolers on the counter. Just like last year, she asked me not to move any of them. I haven’t!!! She would know if I did. EK wasn’t too interested, so she played while we arranged the carolers.
Santa joins a stack of books!
This pair of carolers came from Cracker Barrel many years ago!
The Sunshine Cottage is a great adult play house for dishes and collectibles. Most importantly, it is a special place for EM and EK. WL visits the cottage occasionally, but he is much happier outside playing in the dirt with cars and trucks with his daddy or RM. He is all boy!
Tomorrow is Tea On Tuesdays, I hope you will join me for tea and sweet treats. Thank you so much for your visit and gracious comments.
Wishing you a merry and bright week!

Pam, the Sunshine Cottage is a special place, and how fun to have it for sharing your special holiday collections. I know EM and EK must find it enchanting. I suspect WL does as well, even if he’d rather be outdoors. You are creating beautiful memories for your grandchildren.
Happy Holidays to you and RM and your precious family.

Pam, Sunshine Cottage is living up to her name and resplendent in her Christmas finery! Even on cloudy days, I know you keep sunshine in your heart. EM sure has shown a designer eye since she was very young. I easily can imagine her taking over the blog as an adult! Everything looks so beautiful, I hope you and the girls have time this week just to sit and enjoy!

Thank you, Roxanne. What a sweet thought that EM would one day take over the blog. There are plans for the girls and me to have a tea party. Wishing you merry days before Christmas!

The Sunshine Cottage is gorgeous! Everything is so festive both inside and outside. Love all your carolers. EM did a good job on arranging the smaller ones. Your plates are lovely as are your Santas. Your tree looks like a candy shop. I love it and know the children do too. The linens and pillows are pretty too! That chair looks inviting. The nativity scene is so special and I know the girls will love to have it when they’re older. Stay warm! It’s going to be dangerously cold! Clara ❤️

You return us to our childhood, as well dear Pam. That tree is a child’s delight and a Christmas dream realized…sugar plums and all, with classic Christmas books. The sweet nativity sets the tone and from there the eye takes it all in with awe and wonder… the triple carolers, the Byers collection (great job, EM), the Santas and china plates so masterfully placed alongside the nutcrackers…but I drool, a drool of long standing, over the Tartan Santa who continues to steal my heart with his locks each year..don’t let him out of your sight..I have spies afoot…Love the picture of the family atop Sweet Daddy’s typewriter.. I am spell-bound, so I am just going to have to seat myself in that comfy chair, catch my breath and feel the joy of all you have done to make Christmas so blessedly meaningful for us all, ala Corrie Ten Boom. Ever grateful to you and Butch, dear friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Mary, your sweet comments do warm my heart. I also love the Tartan Santa, he belonged to my Mother. I just packed him away today. Happy New Year, dear one!
