“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23
It is good to be back on board with S+S Sunday today after a week hiatus. More on that later!
We were once again greeted by a couple of awesome sunrises last week. After being under the weather for a few days, it was good to finally get out and stir a bit! The rewards for being able to get outside are great. A blessing indeed!
I suppose word was out that I was unable to take my normal hikes and strolls. What seemed to be about 1,000 grackles came to visit and gave me this show without me leaving the dining room!
Pam discarded a bunch of old candy canes after Christmas, but instead of throwing them all away, I saved a few. I had planned to take the grands for a walk and show them this candy cane tree and include the experience in last weeks post. I hope to still tease them a little with this bush the next time they come over on a good weather day.
My walks were shorter than normal last week, but PJ and I are so fortunate to have much to see just outside our door. The Appalachian foothills are a nice place to be.
This country trio brings us a tremendous amount of joy, as you might guess. The farm boy can hold his own with these cow girls!
Another old bird (other than myself) offered a nice chance for a pic without me leaving our garden area. I think this gobbler could use a beard trim!
Seems it’s a Sunday for birds. This bird almost landed on me as I walked in the garden. I remember thinking it was a mocking bird and they typically will not allow me to get very close. It was actually just before sunup and maybe he, or she, was not aware of my presence.
Jays and cardinals are beginning to frequent the yard this month, bringing color to some of the bare limbs. They like to perch in the holly and other evergreens however…maybe it makes them feel like spring is near!
We pass our Center for Cultural Arts often but had never thought about taking a photo of the three bronze statues displayed out front. Unveiled in 2019, the student-sized figures, sculpted here in Alabama, represent an impromptu performance after lessons at the Center… a musician, a dancer, and an artist! EM takes ballet here.
The winter garden looks very sleepy on a foggy morn. We have weeks to go, but I am ready for spring. How about you?
Over the past few years white pelicans have found their way further inland, even hanging around where we live. January is a good month to find them congregating on our lakes.
It isn’t always easy to catch the birds up close. It is a matter of being in the right place at the right time!
Our throwback this week is from the winter of 2021. Rime ice greeted us one January morning. It covered everything!
Partly cloudy skies aren’t always a bad thing, especially the winter sky at sunset!
“You have infused your created order with an inexplicable beauty that is inseparable from the expression of your nature.”
~ Every Moment Holy, Douglas McKelvey
As I mentioned earlier, I was “under the weather” week before last and unexpectedly got caught without our typical Sunday post prepared. Just a simple example of everyday living!
Have a great week!

Good morning, my dear friends! It never ceases to awe me seeing the world through Butch’s eye. My Sunday morning custom is to read this post with my coffee before church. Am glad to read that you are feeling better. Your grandchildren are a blessing to you and to us. So precious. Yes it’s been very cold here and I yearn for Spring. Our winter weather last until May 15th when we can plant in the ground..
The birds were amazing. And we have pelicans here where we have so little water. I pray you and Pam are back to good health.

We’re so glad you’re feeling better and hopefully you’ll continue to recover. The sunrise shot is so colorful. All the nature shots are interesting. Birds always lift the spirits. The grands pic is adorable! It reminds me of a opening shot from Little House on the Prairie where the children are coming over a knoll. The candy cane tree will be fun for the grands. Love the 3 statutes. We’re praying you’ll continue to feel better. Clara❤️

Praises to the great Healer Who listens. Today’s entries are as powerful as though you had spent the entire week working on them rather than mending. The winter garden is awesome as is the natural landscape that
surrounds you; pelicans, oh my. You are blessed with whimsy when it comes to the Grands…pumpkin patch
production and now candy cane harvesting. You delight the child in us. Thank you for the birds and sunsets
and the glories you find in your world, such a special world, that you share with us. A blessed Sabbath
of renewal and full recovery, Pam and Butch.

Steadfast is a word I’ve focused on for a long time. God’s steadfast love, our steadfast minds . . . what a solid, beautiful thought. And a candy cane bush? excellent. My neighbor had a marshmallow bush that bloomed each Easter. Have a happy and warm week!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Leslie Anne. I will share the marshmallow bush idea with Butch 😊

Beautiful Sunday share! Happy you are feeling better. I’m not exactly eager for spring as I truly enjoy winter, but I would be happier if Mother Nature hadn’t arrived so early this year with a surprise severe freeze that left the landscape in shambles. Too early to really cut things back as we will likely see another freeze or two or three. February is our coldest month on average.
Love the candy cane tree!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Sarah. February is always cold here and even March can be cold. The candy cane tree was a hit!
