“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.”
Psalm 33:6
Sometimes I feel like I must hit the road and search hard for an eye-catching scene or something of special beauty…but it’s really not always necessary. Standing in the front yard and looking up at a passing cloud in a blue spring sky works quite well. A heavenly glimpse?
The red, white, and blue currently has a variety of spring greens as a background, but this viburnum backdrop will soon be a snowy white. I noticed that it is time for a new flag. Our blue is fading.
A close look reveals touches of white are showing up on the snowball bushes. We actually have a couple of below freezing temps in our forecast for early this week but maybe that won’t be a problem. So much is in bloom and leafing out. The girls like to stand under these shrubs when they are in full bloom while I shake the limbs causing it to snow. WL is old enough now to probably find that fun too!
This kind of thing just seems to happen when you are already frustrated because you have spent 10 minutes searching for the reading glasses you took off, certain you placed them in your shirt pocket! I ask; who would have hung my glasses on a tree limb, of all places?
I saw EM checking out the new growth on a lemon balm plant. She loves the smell. This girl needs a “little house on the prairie”!
Residing under a maple tree, this lone butterweed is the only one of it’s kind in the entire yard so I left it to watch the growth process…
…and only a day later, it was coming along nicely. The buttery color of the flowers gives rise to the name. It is a weed and toxic, however; I left it alone for now! I don’t figure it’s hurting one thing!
As always, dogwood blooms appear during Lent and before or near Easter. It is however, not typical to find them this far along in early March! I hope to follow their progress in the coming days.
These flowers seemed to show up overnight..I know it took a few days, but it was like, one day I didn’t notice, and the next day, new life!
I mentioned last week that Pam has proclaimed our anniversary will be celebrated all year, and I believe she is serious. How about blackened halibut with Louisiana crawfish, wilted spinach, beurre blanc!
After dying off during a long, below freezing period, our pansies are making a comeback. PJ said “it’s making a face”. Some of you won’t know of whom I speak, but this one reminded Pam of “Groucho” Marx (no relation to Karl, as far as we know).
A nice trail from what appears to be a Delta flight, based on the colors at the tail. We are really not that far from Atlanta, and therefore have a lot of commercial flights that route across our skies.
EM took this photo. She loved the redbuds in this vase, so we moved the arrangement out of the kitchen to the picnic table so she could practice taking photos. Maybe she will decide one day to work for her daddy at Appalachian Media? You never know!
We spotted a large tree, that to our memory, we had never noticed before. Strangely, it can easily be seen from a main highway that is a regular travel route for us. And even a bit more confusing is that this is a Princess tree which is considered an invasive in Alabama…and it is the only one we have noticed in the immediate area. A story from Japan states that a Princess tree must be planted when a baby girl is born. When she marries, the tree is cut and furniture made from the wood and used as part of the brides dowry. It is thought that every girl is her daddy’s little princess, and since this tree follows her throughout life, it is called the princess tree!
Last year the bridal wreath spirea was hurt by a late frost and failed to be as pretty as it would have been. Being further along this spring, and no frost for a while now has aided in a better showing…
…and the flowering clusters are unique and wedding-esque, as some might say! I can see that.
Our blueberries are in their 3rd season and we are hopeful for a small harvest this year. With the possibility of frost over the next 2 nights, and the fact that birds love them too…
…maybe it is enough to enjoy the unusual flowers!
A waning moon as it greeted me yesterday just after sunrise. A nice start to any day!

Drinking coffee to get me started this Sunday morning. The change in tome caused that. I’ve never seen a princess tree Butch. Invasive but a lovely tail. Just saw a NASA landing with the astronaut being recovered from a water landing. Goodness, I never fail to be amazed. This morning I looked forward to seeing Spring on your post and I wasn’t disappointed. Lowell found tulips coming up around the mailbox. So Spring isn’t far behind here. Whew! What a Winter. Have a blessed week.

Thank you, Alice. Tulips are a wonderful welcome to spring! Wishing you a blessed week!

Spring is my favorite season except for the pine pollen which started way too early for me here in Florida. Thanks for showing all the lovely things that are blooming in your area. That picture of Ella Mae is priceless. Your grandchildren are so fortunate to have someone with your knowledge of growing trees, plants, and flowers. What a wonderful education for them!❤️

Nancy, thank you for your sweet comments. I always love seeing you here!

I can hardly keep my eyes on the road when driving with so many new blooms to see~ I love that EM is interested in photography! I’m chuckling over your glasses on the tree limb 🙂 Keep up the anniversary fun Pam! Stay cozy on this rainy Sunday ☘️

Glasses are always elusive it seems. Even when you wear a necklace holder! I know the feeling way too well of that frustration. Glad you found them. EM did a great job on her photograph. The arrangement is pretty too. Love her photo checking out the lemon balm; she is so cute in her hat and dress. The greens are so vibrant against the flag. I have never heard of the princess tree. That was such an interesting story. Enjoyed all the beautiful shots. Enjoy your day. Clara❤️

Thank you, Clara. Glasses and phones are constantly missing around here. Wishing you a blessed week!

My blueberries have fat bees hovering round. It’s like a symphony if you get close enough — but not too close! Happy Sunday to you. Your flag photo is beautiful.

Pam, I see a bearded Rasputin in the pansy- What does that say about my perception? lol. The photos this week live up to expectations..EM graces the collection and her photo skills are showing….and telling. I almost lost my morning tea recognizing the specs on the branches… and I imagine there were many others identifying with that frustrating habit of search and discover. Thank you, Butch, for your discerning eye and wealth of knowledge about the Spring awakenings across
your terrain…and for sharing your discoveries with us. You capture such beauty.
A blessed Sabbath to all.

Thanks so much, Mary. Wishing you a restful and peaceful week, dear one!

I can certainly identify with your glasses problem. Carrying a camera, phone and glasses trying to capture these beautiful photos is sometimes a challenge. You have captured many beautiful photos to give us a glimpse of spring. I especially love the photo of EM. Yes, she needs a house on the prairie. She is really beautiful. The flag against the green is amazing and I imagine the easiest to photograph. Keep celebrating!

Thanks so much, Dianne. I am always losing my phone and glasses. Wishing you a
blessed week!

What a joy to see the beautiful spring shots on a very chilly and rainy Sunday here in SC. The photo of EM is frame worthy, and I love that she is taking up photography. All of us are relating to the missing glasses…hanging them on a branch is pretty clever and safe though!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Roxanne. It has been a rainy and chilly day here. Everything is blooming and now we have 3-4 nights this week at 30 degrees.
Wishing you a lovely week.

Butch and Pam…I can relate to the misplaced glasses. I have another frequently mis-placed item…my phone. More than once, I have started searching for my phone while talking on it. Yikes! I think they call that old age. LOL Thanks for sharing today…my “sports self” was a bit disappointed that the Kansas Jayhawks lost to Texas last night…but we will definitely Dance next week…so a new day and a new tournament….your pics lifted my spirits. 🙂

Kari, I am constantly looking for my phone and reading glasses. Thank you, dear one. Wishing you a wonderful week!

Beautiful pictures, as usual! I had a good laugh at the glasses shot – hubs is always misplacing his reading glasses and although we have found them in some unusual places, I can’t say that we’ve been found in a tree yet (to my knowledge). The Princess tree sounds like a lovely tradition, too bad that its invasive. Its so sweet to see EM checking for lemon balm; you two are teaching her amazing things through your love of all things nature! So glad to see that spring has arrived somewhere. Have a very happy week both of you!

EM looks so contemplative, like a real deep thinker! I have never seen the blueberry blooms, and I think they are so pretty. Thank you for all you share of your beautiful lives!

Always our pleasure, thank you Cheryl!
