The Art of Beautiful Tables

March 27, 2023~ Book Reviews, Food & Entertaining, Giveaways, Tablescapes

Happy Monday dear friends. I am so glad you are here for a special edition of Monday Morning Blooms!

“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭11
‬ ‭

Lidy, Mary, and I are excited to share with you the newest book from the editors of Victoria, The Art of Beautiful Tables! If you love gorgeous table settings, dining alfresco, and enjoying afternoon tea, this book is a must add to your collection!

Not only do you get a glimpse of some of the beautiful pages, you have an opportunity to enter a giveaway. Victoria has graciously provided each one of us with a book to give away to one of our readers. Please read to the bottom of the post for details on how to enter.

I have been subscribing to Victoria Magazine for years, and yes, I keep all of my old issues. I also have most of their book publications…I am definitely a fan! When my book arrived, I was so excited to open its pages and just take in all of the cherished tableware, luxurious linens, and stunning bouquets. The book is divided into seven chapters…Elements Of Style, Alfresco Gatherings, Lovely Settings, Teatime Occasions, Holiday Celebrations, Tastemaker Tables, and The China Cabinet.

Can you imagine spending an afternoon at this charming table, in its lovely garden setting, and with an eye-catching arrangement of tulips?

In a kaleidoscope of colors and vivid patterns, a display of Sevres-inspired porcelain is breathtaking!

Long-time readers know how much I love creating an alfresco table. With autumn being my favorite season, this polished picnic in the Scottish countryside offers an enticing setting for guests to gather and linger. I could easily spend hours at this inspiring setting!

As summer fades into autumn, caramel tones grace this beautifully appointed table. The elegantly designed dinnerware patterns of Gold Oak and Game Birds are by Julie Wear!

A Blue and white breakfast nook is casual, but still refined. It is a delightful space to enjoy the first meal of the day!

I would be ecstatic to enjoy tea and macarons in this setting befitting royalty!

Inspiration for a handful of the most popular observances on the calendar are included in the chapter on Holiday Celebrations.

A table for two tucked into a garden laden with dainty treats is the perfect setting for a daughter and her mother to celebrate Mother’s Day. I always look forward to setting a table in the garden in memory of my beloved mother!

I am so thrilled that my dear friend, Lidy is a featured Tastemaker in The Art of Beautiful Tables. Her impeccable taste and French style is evident in all that she does. Beautiful vintage linens, sparkling crystal, and antique dishware grace her stunning tables.

As a designer, antiques dealer, and owner of French Garden House, Lidy’s tables are true works of art! I am happy to be in the company of my talented friends, Lidy and Mary, for our Monday Morning Blooms!

Thank you for the opportunity to win the awesome Victoria Magazine Tablescapes book! I’m entering in hopes of winning one. My favorite flower is hydrangeas. This may be a silly question (it’s early in the morning ;-)), are the instructions for entering saying to do all three or that there are three opportunities?

My most recent flower attraction, to get me through the winter, has been spray roses that I pick up at the local market. The sweetest are the pink ones, but I have enjoyed several colors. Since the buds never open, after about 10 days, I tie the bouquet with string and hang it, upside down, in the garage. When dry, I remove most of the remaining leaves and mix with dried Dusty Miller or Baby’s Breath. Displayed in a small vase, they are rather quaint. Some things aren’t meant to be thrown away just because they start to wilt!

It is so befitting that Victoria selected you three to showcase and share this latest work of beauty! Whether I win one or not, I look forward to sinking myself into this guide, and appreciate the chance they’ve given your readers. My favorite flower(s) are the iris, and perhaps peonies as a close second (hence, my time and trouble to cover my largest one over these past recent cold nights). Of course I already follow Victoria magazine on FB and you on Pinterest. Thanks, Pam!

I love how they naturalize in the garden and their flowers are like lanterns that light up the Spring Garden. I also like how they have long strong stems and add a different dimension in bouquets. It just shouts Spring with it’s lovely fragrance but alas, we can’t grow them in Florida so I have to enjoy them vicariously. Isn’t our God amazing in his creation of each and every living thing. BTW, have you and Butch watched the TV series “The Chosen” ? Amazing and enlightening.

I don’t know what it is about tablescapes that warm the heart. Color is certainly an important factor, as well as shape and texture. Perhaps our imagination plays a part as we picture ourselves in each setting, reveling in the beauty and delights with loved ones. All I know is, Pam, I always come away from your posts with a sense of tranquility. Thank you for that! P.S. You don’t have to enter my name in the giveaway.

My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Mary @ homeiswheretheboatis.net and I welcome Nancy @nance_endless_summer as our special guest! LINK in bio for the blog posts. Have a wonderful day!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
