Happy Thursday, sweet friends! We have enjoyed a beautiful week with warm sunny days and cool nights, perfect for being outdoors.
“Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”
Proverbs 3:7
The light was so beautiful Monday afternoon that I grabbed my camera to take a few photos in and around the garden. After viewing the photos, I decided to share them!
Sunshine ligustrums are beginning to change to their bright chartreuse color! Our spring has been rainy and cool. The sunshine ligustrums need sun in order to show off their beautiful shade of green, finally days of sunshine!
RM prunes all of our panicled hydrangeas in late winter. The Little Lamb hydrangeas (we have two that flank the entrance to the garden) have leafed out beautifully. In the background you might notice new planters.
We recently purchased three large concrete planters and placed them where RM had removed gardenias. The gardenias had never done well, except to provide a lovely fragrance. Candy Corn Spirea, Bayou Bliss Dystileum, and Lemon Lime Nandina were planted. They should fill out and provide color and interest.
The Sarah Bernhardt peony is loaded with buds…
…as are the Karl Rosenfields!
Light and shadows dance across the pasture in late afternoon!
A view of the Sunshine Cottage from the picnic area showing the fence that Butch installed last year. We have not purchased bedding plants, but hopefully today. Our nights have been in the upper thirties and low forties this week, not ideal for planting.
My dear friend gave me this Pink Diamond paniculata hydrangea in late summer of last year. It wintered in a plastic container until a week ago. The hydrangea is at least twenty five years old and I can’t wait to see it bloom this summer.
A view of the arbor that Butch built last year…the lights look so pretty at night!
In the foreground is a vanilla strawberry hydrangea. The candy corn spirea will offer varying shades of color!
Bridal Wreath Spirea bloomed beautifully in spite of the late freeze. We did cover it several nights.
These were the only blooms on the Lady Banks Roses that were planted last fall beneath the new arbor. Hopefully by next spring the vines will have grown enough to cover the arbor and will be as beautiful as the previous ones.
One of my favorite trees is the Kwanzan Cherry…
Our only dogwood tree was beautiful in late March. It is near the woods in a different part of the yard some distance from woodlands often seen in my “picnic-tablesettings”.
Our two Snowball Viburnums suffered a little impact from the freeze, but still produced large and gorgeous blooms.
The Viburnums would no longer be considered bushes, but small trees. I highly recommend planting these as they grow quickly!
Thank you for your visit and gracious comments. Wishing you a joy filled day!

Such pretty signs of spring in your garden Pam! Our peonies are budding too, such a happy sight with the promise of blooms to come. Our spireas were frost nipped late March so we lost our blooms this year…sniff. I feel so badly for the peach farmers that took a hit at the the same time. Hope you’re enjoying this beautiful weather despite the pollen count. Keep Calm and Zyrtec On 🙂 Happy Tuesday ♥

Thank you, Mary. The allergies have definitely hit me. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

A floral welcome this morning is greatly appreciated. We have finally had Spring. It’s been 81 the last three days. Looks like rain on Friday but we need it. Nothing blooming here. Th green field in the background of some of your floral pictures really makes the blooms sing.

I am so happy you are enjoying warmer weather. Happy Friday, Alice!

Don’t you love that beautiful chartreuse that pops into the trees at this time of year? I wish they stayed that color all summer but it’s such a gift when it arrives. As you know, we’re behind you — but on the way!

The snowballs look as though they did not even catch the sniffles…simply stunning.
Your peonies look ultra promising and the ligustrum will probably perform their
enhancing trick this summer complimenting the colorful flowers surrounding it.
What a blessing to stroll through your bit of paradise and take in all of Springtime.
It will be time to serve lemonade and treats in the garden before we know it….
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, before we know it it will time to serve lemonade and treats. Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Mary!

Absolutely beautiful, sweet friend! Everything looks so lovely, and I love the new planters. I haven’t done well with the gardenias either, and I am going to have come up with replacements. I have always admired your Sunshine Lingstrums. We planted several, but they seem to have suffered with the early cold snap we had last fall. I thought they were lost, but they are showing a little life. I’m going to be patient and see what happens. Your Snowballs are breathtaking! Mine are starting to get their blooms. Dear friend, I have so enjoyed my visit today. Have a wonderful weekend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Shannon. I think the sunshine ligustrums will survive, give them time and even cut them back a little!

I loved seeing your April update. I am still trying to patiently await seeing what survived last fall’s (and even this spring’s) transplantings, as well as that harsh arctic blast we had at Christmastime. I love having immature plants and seeing them grow, but sometimes my impatience wants to see more mature plantings. The struggle is real!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I can’t wait to see how your garden is growing. I want to plant a couple of trees and at our age, we probably would never see them mature. Patience is not easy if you garden.
