“When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.”
“John 16:21 ESV
“Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fall; A mother’s secret hope outlives them all.”
~Oliver Wendell Holmes
There is something about the uniqueness, beauty, gentleness, and splendor of Mountain Laurel that reminds me of mothers! The blooms also look like little umbrellas. Umbrellas offer protection from the elements, like moms do!
My mom. Her name is Doris. She passed away in 2015. She was an only child, and I have one sibling who is 10 years younger. I grew up in a very small family, but this gave my mother plenty of time to give her attention to one person…me. She totally spoiled me and I am forever grateful she did. I don’t think it hurt one thing! (Pam continues to spoil me and I’m thankful for that too.)
Pam’s precious mom has been gone in the physical sense for just over 16 years now. But, a mother like her’s is truly never gone. Her name is Shirley. She is always near, always dear, and forever right by PJ’s side. Sweet, godly, servant mothers like Shirley have far reaching influence beyond their own children. Such was true of her wonderful impact on my life.
Many of you still have your mother and no doubt cherish her. We pray you have time with her today if that’s possible. If time and space prohibits, it is a blessing to have technology that can bring us a little closer!
PJ and Seth last year on Mother’s Day. They’ve not changed one bit. Being an only child (like my mom), Seth was in a position to have the “spoiling” legacy continue…and there’s no doubt that this chain has not been broken. He is blessed beyond measure to have a mom who has always exemplified the character of the woman we read about in scripture in Proverbs 31. He is very aware of this blessing!
Our EM loves her mommy big time. She is not only celebrating Mother’s Day this weekend but had her 7th birthday. She and Pam had returned to our house to enjoy the garden after a day of shopping and lunch. I was invited to join them for lunch, and I definitely accepted. Who in their right mind would turn down an invite to spend time with two of the prettiest girls on the Planet?
Sweet mothers do often become grandmothers. And with that comes a new name or title. For example, these 3 have their “PJ” and they sure do love her! There is good reason “grand” was added to describe one generation removed from motherhood!
“The role of a wife and a mother is not left to conjecture. It’s not a matter of personal preference. It is clearly established, and it is unfolded from the very first book of the Bible and all the way through.”
~ Alistair Begg
“The High Calling of Wives and Mothers”
I picked a bouquet for all of you moms. All wildflowers found around the yard and nearby fields. I hope you enjoy. And these will not bother your allergies!
“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”
Proverbs 31:25-27 ESV
Praying you have a great Mother’s Day and a blessed week!
