“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
2 Corinthians 3:17 ESV
Happy Sunday! Tomorrow we honor the fallen, those who fought to gain, and fought to protect that which we hold dear…freedom. Memorial Day is a somber occasion, a time to reflect, and a time to remember that freedom comes at great costs, and it is always under attack.
This needs no caption!
The sweet smell of southern magnolia tells us that summer is just around the corner. We’ve actually had a fairly pleasant spring. May often brings summer-like heat, but not this year. No complaints.
I think this is year 3 for our blueberries and finally I am hopeful that we might have a small harvest!
The girls threw a tea party last week and invited PJ as their only guest. EM and EK made all sorts of goodies. They had the best time, and I feel certain you will see highlights of the occasion in the near future!
Pam has done some really amazing things through the years using the red, white, and blue in so many ways! I am glad she loans me a few photos along the way. She is very creative with tablescapes and floral arrangements.
Squirrels are also creative in the manner they choose to hide acorns, except they sometimes forget where they deposited them. This can result in a willow oak sprouting in the middle of the flower garden!
Flag Day is coming up on June 14, but our flag flies in this spot most of the year.
It is neat when flowers provide the colors and beauty that perfectly commemorate special days like Memorial Day.
We have a beautiful country from sea to shining sea. Even here in northeast Alabama you can find purple mountain majesty and amber waves of grain!
Meanwhile back at the house, these two are welcome as long as they munch on white clover. We’ve not been able to get that message across however, so I am trying one of those repellants around garden areas that supposedly has a smell rabbits and other visitors are not fond of…we shall see! If the repellant doesn’t work I may call on Mr. McGregor to chase them away.
I chose this throwback (2017), because of it’s beauty and of course the flag. Hunter House in Madison, GA is a Queen Anne style, built in 1883.
Many of you will remember that Pam’s dad is a purple heart veteran. He was seriously wounded in Korea but is blessed, at 92, to be living at home and doing well. His old flag had taken a beating by weather and needed some attention. Our son took it into his care and then relocated it to the front of the house. Pam’s dad was so excited to have the flag flying for Memorial Day.
When patriotic visitors drop by on Saturday afternoon wearing red, white, and blue, there’s nothing else to do but give them a ride on a blue golf cart! They love for PJ to be their designated driver.
God created the rainbow and with it came His promise, never to destroy the earth again by a flood. He never breaks a promise, compromises truth, alters His purpose, or distorts His creation. Only humans do that.
This rainbow was very wide and lay so close to the horizon it appeared to have very little arch. Quite an unusual afternoon early last week.

What a thoughtful post. The quotation you started this post with is one that I hope to be able to remember to quote it today. It makes me have goose pimples! THe grands attention to their grandparents is an example to how well they are reared. They are so precious in their red white and blue. Love Pams fathers flag update. Looking forward to the rest of the story of the tea party.
Thank you dearest, Alice. Wishing you a blessed Memorial Day!
Pam
A thoughtful and beautiful post, Butch. Happy Memorial Day to all there.
Thank you, my friend!
Pam
What a gorgeous rainbow! Happy Memorial Day. May we all stand to be the men and women our soldiers deem worth fighting for!
Amen and thank you, Rita!
Pam
We must always remember that freedom isn’t free, our military service members pay for it with their sacrifice and their courage.
The squirrels here plant oak trees all over, and we try to pull them up as soon as we see them in the flower beds. They have ‘hidden’ acorns in my husband’s shoes in the garage before, too.
Oh those squirrels and their hiding places!
Pam
What a lovely post. So thankful I serve a faithful God who is all you said and more. Have a blessed Memorial Day.
He is faithful 🙏🏻 Thank you, Bobbie!
Pam
A beautiful and thoughtful post indeed. There are no truer words than the ones that started this post. Memorial Day is so very important. I know Pam’s daddy is proud to have an updated flag by his grandson. That was meaningful to him and kind of Seth. The grands are so cute in their red, white and blue. Pam does have many wonderful talents and so do you. You make a great blogging team! Love the rainbow! Enjoy your long weekend! Clara ❤️
Clara, you are a sweetheart! Thank you for always reading and commenting ♥️
Pam
Happy Memorial Day Pam and Butch. I love the saying of the unknown author. Beautiful. Love the first pic of the blue sky and beautiful white clouds. Oh my that screams summer is almost here. Have a beautiful weekend.
Thanks so much, Kris!
Pam
May we prove worthy of the sacrifices made to guarantee our peace and freedom.
Young lives, never fully realized, so that we might pursue our dreams…how humbling a thought. The sky photos, including the rainbow befit the day. The little ones in red/white/& blue do too…those little patriots do their Grandparents proud. Heartfelt thanks to Sweet Daddy for his service and to Seth for restoration of that singular, iconic flag. On this day of remembrance let us re-pledge ourselves to
its honor and the preservation of its spirit. A blessed Memorial Day.
Amen and Amen, Mary! A blessed Memorial Day wish for you!
Pam

Today is the day we visit the National Cemetery in our historic town. Row upon row those white tombstones mark the remembrance of the ultimate sacrifice of freedom for which we will remain eternally grateful.
Thank you for this lovely post. It is extremely heart-warming. Thank you to your dad who is a living memorial and who reminds us to be joyful for those who made it home to thank again and again.
God bless your day. Thank you for the time you put into your beautiful meaningful blog.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rainbow like that, hovering on the horizon and spreading so far from left to right! God never ceases to surprise me–even at my age! Thank you for sharing the delight of your photography, Butch!
Thank you, Nancy. Butch has a keen eye for God’s creation!
Pam
Such beautiful pictures Butch! The grands are so precious dressed in their red, white, and blue in honor of your Memorial day. But that picture of the cloud formation ands the one of the rainbow – oh my. The blue hydrangeas are gorgeous and it is so cool that your son was able to relocate Pam’s dad’s flag in time for Memorial day. I hope you both had a lovely weekend!
