Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a safe and peaceful Memorial Day Weekend! Yesterday was unusually cool for the 29th day of May!
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.””
Psalm 91:1-2
I often enjoy setting a casual table using the basics!
The picnic table sits next to our woodlands area and provides a nice shade and usually a cooling breeze!
A seersucker cloth covers the table which is in need of some tender loving care. Those pesky squirrels often dine at the table and don’t even bother to pick up after themselves. They have plenty of food but have also chosen to gnaw on the table!
Staying with my approach to a simple table, wildflowers were chosen for a centerpiece!
“Man has created some lovely dwellings, some soul-stirring literature. He has done much to alleviate physical pain. But he has not created a substitute for a sunset, a grove of pines, the music of the winds, the dank smell of the deep forest, or the shy beauty of a wildflower.”
~Harvey Broome
Beautiful Queen Anne’s lace is free for the picking…
…as is daisy fleabane!
Lance leaf coreopsis was apparently included in a butterfly-bee mix of wildflower seeds planted last year. It has been a delight this spring in our garden!
There were no recent purchases for this casual table. However, I have never shown you the Copeland Spode salad plates in the ‘Buttercup’ pattern that I purchased last October in Highlands, NC. I love this botanical pattern that features yellow buttercups, blue forget-me-nots, green leaves, and brown borders against a cream background. Buttercups bloom in spring and are most often considered weeds which are not welcomed in gardens. Enmasse they make a show of bright yellow near our pasture. Their flowers are small, and stems are short which makes it challenging to use in an arrangement!
Sunlight and shadows dance across the view of the Sunshine Cottage!
You might wonder, why this color of napkin…look closely and you will see the blueish gray forget-me-nots. Acrylic tortoiseshell flatware accents the brown borders of the salad plates.
Thank you for your visit and gracious comments. Wishing you a joy-filled week!

I love the old-fashioned appeal of your vintage Copeland Spode ‘Buttercup’ plates Pam! They’re perfectly paired with your wildflower bouquet, seersucker cloth and woodlands tablesetting. Don’t get me started on what those dastardly squirrels will destroy. We have the fattest squirrels in a 10-mile radius with our birdfeeders and they still chew on our chairs. Happy Tuesday ♥
Thank you, Mary. From the deer, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, etc. that live here they are fed so well and yet still dig in the garden and under the trees. There were deer tracks in our rows of sunflowers! of course that includes the raccoons, skunks, and armadillos 🦌🦨🐿️🦃🐇🦔
I have always loved buttercups. When I was a kid we would put them under our chin and the brighter the reflection of yellow the more one was supposed to like butter. lol. Love the Spode plates, Pam. I have a weakness for china.
Have a wonderful week- xo Diana
How funny, I have never heard that before. Thanks so much, Diana and have a wonderful week!
I love this! The seersucker instantly transported me to my youth in the clothes I often wore, and in my Dad’s summer suits. The old fashioned wildflower bouquet is so simply sweet, and your salad plates are perfect in their setting. You say basics, but I say very special!
Seersucker was once a staple for summer clothing. I always loved my seersucker skirt. Thank you, Rita and I hope you have a wonderful week!
This is so pretty Pam, you have captured the feeling of summer! I love the wildflower centerpiece, it is simple but really grabs the eye. Yellow and blue are always wonderful together and your buttercup plates are lovely. Squirrels! How can something so small cause so much trouble!! They certainly can make a mess. The photo with the Sunshine Cottage in the background is beautiful. Happy Summer!
Jenna
Thanks so much, Jenna. It is a beautiful day here and the temp was in the 50’s yesterday morning and today. Yesterday’s high barely made 70. Wishing you a lovely day!
Good morning, Pam! What a beautiful table you have set for us today. Your floral centerpiece of wildflowers is so pretty in the sunny yellow pitcher and compliments your seersucker tablecloth perfectly. I love seersucker, and it is the perfect spring and summer fabric. Your sweet Spode salad plates add such a pretty accent to the table. Wishing you a most happy day, sweet friend!
Thank you, Shannon. Most of us remember a seersucker dress or jacket in our closet as teens or young adults. Happy day to you, sweet friend!
Very pretty Pam. I love the queens Ann lace. It makes the buttercups shine. Happy new week. Kris
Thank you and Happy week to you, Kris!
One of my favorite flower arrangements. All you need is a pair of clippers and then you can bring in the most pretty of all the wild flowers. Just gorgeous!
Thank you, Alice. I do love using wildflowers!
Those Buttercup plates tug at my heart. My Mom loved Buttercups. There are some still growing here at the lake house.
The forget-me-nots on the silverware are so sweet.
I am currently battling chipmunks! So I feel your pain about the squirrels.
Have a beautiful week!
Thank you, Nancy. We also battle chipmunks and many other critters.
Enjoy your week!
A beautiful tablescape Pam. Love the new plates and the dinner plates too. The woodland arrangement is so pretty and the napkins are a nice compliment as well. I have been enjoying the weather so much. I wish the humidity level could stay this way all summer long. The northern breezes are lovely too. Happy Tuesday. Clara ❤️
Thank you, Clara. The weather has been so nice and it would be wonderful if it would stay, but we know that won’t happen in the South 🩷
Love your wildflower centerpiece! So springlike. Those dishes are beautiful, such delicate and lovely flowers on them.
Thanks so much, Carole!
Lovely, as always. That seersucker tablecloth is so sweet.
Thank you, Cindie!
“Free for the picking” does not detract from its ethereal beauty…imagine something so delicate as Queen Anne’s Lace stealing the show…. God’s plan in nature’s design never misses…. Shades of youthful summers in the seersucker….it deserves a fashion comeback, and how lovely as a table covering. Your woodland
table brings elegant simplicity to an otherwise rustic setting and those buttercup
dishes just shine. No wonder the critters are drawn ……
Thank you, my friend. I remember seeing a few men wearing seersucker suits! Happy Wednesday!
A lovely table Pam, and what a beautiful spot for it. Obviously your woodland friends agree – those guys are relentless! Thank goodness we’re bigger than they are! 😊 Hope you continue to have a lovely spring for as long as possible. Thanks for sharing the beauty this morning!
Thank you, Barbara. Have a wonderful week!
Queen Anne’s lace and seersucker … both are things I love! Your plates from Highlands are the perfect accent to the wildflower bouquet. The entire setting is so restful. Our critter at the moment is carpenter bees, wow are they destructive. If the weather stayed like this year round, I would be such a happy camper!
Thanks so much, Roxanne. Oh no, carpenter bees are terrible!
Oh, I love the seersucker tablecloth! I always did love that fabric. And the brown stemware is just gorgeous. The beautiful pitcher with the simple arrangement is so country-looking and warm and welcoming. Another great job, sweet friend!
Thank you, dearest Cheryl!
My grandmother’s chins was Spode Copeland Buttercup. Thanks for sharing as it brings back sweet memories of her and her garden as well!
I am so glad it brought special memories of your grandmother, Kay.
Adorable table with dainty flowers. Hugs.
Thank you, Maristella!
My cousin’s wedding china was the Buttercup pattern and I can remember looking at the gifts sprawled out on long tables in their basement back in 1963 — I was all of 12 years old — and thinking “that’s the most beautiful china I have ever seen.” I still think so. It’s perfect on your table with the blue napkins and the yellow flower-filled pitcher.
Thank you, Jeanie. You had a discerning eye at twelve years old.
Charming plates in a lovely setting, plus shade and soft breezes! A table to sit at long after the meal is done. Minus the squirrels — lol! Our squirrels delight in chewing the tops of the fence posts.
Thank you, Sandra!
This is just a lovely table!! The centerpiece of fresh flowers is wonderful. Everything ties together so nicely and I love the plates you found. Less is more when it comes to Summer decor and you have done that perfectly!
Beautiful table Pam! The Spode is so pretty and delicate and looks perfect with the dainty Queen Anne’s lace, and the coreopsis brings out the buttercup yellow in the plates. I remember seersucker dresses as a kid – it was the coolest fabric to wear growing up on the hot prairies. I’m sorry about the squirrels and all the other critters in your gardens – Mary’s comment and your response made me smile. I hope you have a lovely week!
Thank you, Kim. I have memories of wearing seersucker in the summer months.
Love the blue & yellow together Pam, so pretty.
Blessings, Jennifer
Thank you, Jennifer!
This is such a lovely table! I love seersucker!!! Always have, always will. Just bought some seer sucker napkins actually. The accent plates are stunning. Totally grabbed my eye. The floral arrangement just completes the scene. I want to grow Queen Anne’s Lace in my garden. Have a beautiful day! XO- MaryJo
