“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”
Psalm 103:13 ESV
This verse provides a great thought and lesson for all of us who are parents! Key words, “who fear him”.
Perhaps dads should dominate the sides of milk cartons where missing persons are shown, this in hopes they can be found and returned to the place they are needed most…at home…loving their children.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
It was nice to finally get some precipitation last week. One day was dreary and overcast and I thought it would surely rain all day. It appeared it was raining all over the world, but in a matter of minutes this was the scene, and a walk outside was a steam bath!
A Grand-“Father” surely has a right to open his mouth and act silly once a year on his own birthday! This action was approved by my little team of party goers.
Paw Paw (Pam’s dad) was also a party goer recently. Wyatt loves trucks, tractors, heavy equipment and construction. His birthday party was a construction zone and everyone was issued a hardhat. Paw Paw obeyed the safety rules and wore his the entire evening, even if it was a bit small!
Father and son…We couldn’t miss our annual mid-winter photo, February, 2023!
Our daughter-in-love dancing with her dad (Bill) and it is obvious they are enjoying the moment. Many of us will not get to say “Happy Father’s Day” to our dad today. If you are blessed to have your dad with you, don’t miss the opportunity to say I love you. Bill had a serious accident at work and went home to be with Jesus in 2020. We invite you to take time this week and see our tribute to Bill by checking out Simple + Southern Sunday No. 316!
It was “take the children to work day” recently and it seems things went well for EM, EK, and WL. Dad (Appalachian Media) was doing video work at a local Chevrolet dealer which was hosting a Corvette show. It was a fun family event. I first thought dad was wearing a cap that was part of a batman outfit, but I discovered the strange glasses are needed for a specific type of real time, very tricky, flying of one of his drones! (Dad would have been wearing batman gear when he was their age, but don’t let him know I told you.)
Can you find a hummingbird in this pic. We will give you a helpful hint, he has a ruby throat. Pam was taking random photos of the garden and a hummer flew into the frame. Timing is everything!
American goldfinches came by to visit the wildflower garden last week and found a variety of seeds to their liking. One of my canes that helps support the tall coreopsis also serves as a perfect perch for a hungry bird. This is a female. Goldfinches mainly eat seeds, and especially seeds from the daisy family!
The seasons first zinnia! Typically there are more zinnias, as well as a few sunflowers by Father’s Day. Things are a little slower this year. Maybe we are a week or more behind most years? I did plant late because of cool nights in April.
There is something about a beautiful, smooth lake that is bordered by a wheat field that is inviting…take a country walk, go fishing, have a picnic, canoe or paddle board, or maybe just relax under a nearby tree.
PJ enjoyed some time with her dear friend at the hydrangea farm last week and was showing me photos of the snowflake hydrangeas. I am not sure this pic really shows off the size of those flowers. They are huge!
Pam was setting a table in the garden for her upcoming Tea on Tuesday blog post and the patriotic colors caught my eye. My only problem was, I wanted some iced tea, and at this point there was none. I was informed that I would need to come back later. And then I discovered this meant come back on Tuesday! I suppose I will!
From June 2019, quite a view from over 5,000 feet looking toward Maggie Valley, NC. It was a fine summer day for a hike in the Appalachian Mountains. I’m ready to go back!
Have a great week. The summer solstice will arrive Wednesday. In the lower 48, there is an area in northwestern North Dakota, near the western edge of the Central Time Zone, that will have the latest sunset on Wednesday of any place in the lower 48…after 10:00 PM! I learned this while listening to 60’s music on SiriusXM 60’s gold, so it has to be true!

What a thoughtful post Butch, dads on milk cartons should be posted over every sign along the roads of the world today. Directions back home is the idea. And a Happy Father’s Day to you. I did find the hummingbird and what a delightful accident. I cannot get one hummer to visit my yard so I’ve added hanging baskets on Shepard hooks with flowers that entice them. Love the picture of Seth and children enjoying their day with dad. Did you get much needed rain? I was watching the storms coming your way. Beautiful sunset picture at close of day.

Hi Alice, I planted two trumpet honeysuckles a few years ago. It has grown up my farm bell and all over an arbor. The hummingbirds flock to those red tubular flowers and ignore a feeder that is close by! Not sure if it grows where you live, but I ordered mine from Better Homes and Garden. Hope you have a lovely week, Roxanne

A sweet reply to Alice!

Thank you Roxanne. I’ll try to find those. Are they the same as old fashion trumpet vines?
Roxanne Bernard says
Alice, I think it may be a more well behaved version, but I’m not absolutely sure!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Alice. I hope the hummingbirds will soon visit. We did receive rain and supposedly more is coming. Wishing you a wonderful week!

Happy Birthday Butch and Happy Father’s Day to all the men of the family! What an amazing blessing the children have to be around 3 generations of strong, wise men. That milk carton idea is brilliant. Special blessings to your dear daughter-in-love today; we never ever stop missing our fathers. Butch, when the sweet tea pitcher starts running low in my fridge, I start to get anxious (my biggest vice!). “Sweet tea, wine of the South”!!!

Thank you, Roxanne. I am so very grateful to have my 92 year old dad! I have prepared a meal and our family will gather at his house this afternoon!

Happy/Birthday Fathers’ Day to you, Butch, and to the special Dads in your Family. Sweet Daddy looks jaunty in that birthday construction hat. That admonition about fathers on milk cartons is brilliant, Butch, and should be an (at least) annual reminder to strengthen our Nation. I had to pause at that smooth lake photo and just absorb its tranquility. All the family photos just melted my heart and reminded me of the love and honor that permeates your bond, which I so admire. Yup, with the clue, I spotted the hummingbird.. Are not His gifts of
nature greater than anything the world might offer? Thank you for the tender introduction to Bill. One can imagine the void that fine man left in the Family.
On to celebrating the day…may it be greatly blessed for all.

Happy Birthday, Butch.🎂 How fun to be surrounded by your grandkids. Happy Father’s Day too! You are a great dad and granddad!
I did see the hummingbird in Pam’s garden picture.
You mentioned rain. It has rained and rained here. We are under a severe thunderstorm watch right now.The rain is coming down hard. Wednesday night we had severe wind like a tornado, then lots of rain.I’ve never seen or felt that much wind. You should have seen me scurrying to get in my breakable flower pots. Mike didn’t realize I was outside or I would have been in trouble. The power went out for three or more hours. We have had over 5 inches of rain and there will be more to record today.
Thanks for all the beauty.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Bonnie, your weather sounds horrible. I am so glad you did t receive damage and hope this afternoon wasn’t severe.
Thanks so much!
