Happy Thursday! I sound like a broken record when I say how quickly the year is flying by. Can you believe the first day of August is next Tuesday?
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9 ESV
I have a tall glass of sweet iced tea with a sprig of mint to offer you as we venture out in the sweltering heat to view the garden’s most colorful flowers…zinnias.
This is the third year that I have ordered zinnia seeds from Johnny’s Seeds. I love the variety and quality that they offer. I will identify in case you want to order. This is not a paid advertisement, just that I have been pleased with their zinnia and sunflower seeds.
Benarys Giant Purple! Zinnias are perfect for a cutting garden! They make a beautiful single color or a mixed color bouquet. Zinnias also mix well with sunflowers, dahlias, hydrangeas, etc!
RM planted three beds of zinnias this year. One is next to the Sunshine Cottage. A long raised bed in the back of the garden is divided into three sections with zinnias, sunflowers and wildflowers. The third one is beside our driveway with the woodlands in the background.
Benarys Giant Golden Yellow! Deadheading greatly benefits zinnias as it promotes more blooms!
Benarys Giant Deep Red. Zinnias are one of the easiest flowers to grow, as they grow quickly and bloom heavily!
All of the reds are brilliant in color! Zinnias are a pollinator’s paradise. Bees and butterflies love them!
Zinnias love full sun and are well suited for our hot Alabama summers
Queeny Lime Blush…
…with its soft coloring!
This is the first year to plant the Queeny Lime Blush, but I will definitely order the seeds again!
This bed of zinnias is at the back of the garden behind the Japanese maple with its twinkling lights!
I love this coral color from the Pro Cut Bicolor!
Cactus Flowered Mix! We have several colors in the mix!
American Goldfinches love our zinnia bed that is front of the woodlands. They can quickly escape to the woods if they notice RM’s camera! This raised bed of zinnias is by our driveway.
Queeny Red Lime is one of my favorites. We planted these last year and I ordered the seeds again.
Zinnias are annuals, but we always have them appear in random places from last year’s seeds. We had several to appear in our sunflower patch this year. Zinnias do not like to be transplanted, planting from seeds produces a happy and healthy crop.
Queeny Pure Orange! The Monarch butterflies usually appear in mid October on their flight southward. The zinnias are their favorite flower in our garden.
Cactus Flowered Mix! Zinnia seeds are very small and should be sown about 1/4-inch deep! Good news, zinnias are deer resistant!
“A butterfly, one summer day
Spoke to me as he fluttered my way
He asked me where the flowers were
And told me which he did prefer.
I pointed where the zinnias grew
He thanked me, and off he flew!
As I continued on my walk
I wondered, who taught him to talk!”
~Joseph May
I was surprised, but glad, when I reviewed this photo and discovered a honey bee was also enjoying our zinnias…thrilled it decided to join us!
Thank you for your visit and gracious comments. Wishing you a delightful day!

Beautiful! I’ve been very pleased withJohnny’s seeds also. Do you fertilize them? My early morning routine now is to stroll to my raised bed with coffee cup and shears in hand, then water, water, water!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, we have not fertilized. Yes it is water, water, water here! Thank you and stay cool!
Clara says
Your zinnias are gorgeous. The last 2 years have been challenging for our zinnias. Either deer, bunnies or both are eating the tops of so we never have blooms. We have lovely green stems! I do so enjoy seeing yours. I appreciate the various names as we’re ordering from Johnny’s next year. We’ll have to figure a way to cover them to protect them. Otherwise, the animals will have gourmet zinnias! 😂 Stay cool. Clara❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Clara. I am so sorry bunnies or deer are feasting on your zinnias. Stay cool ♥️

Sooooo pretty. I know you have great weather most of the year but we only have this short window of summer months up here in the midwest and I hate that it is going to be August next week already. Time sure does fly. Have a great rest of the week. Hugs. Kris
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Kris. It is so hard to believe it will be August!

What a beautiful flower. I just have a tiny spot to garden but will be adding these to plant next season.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Nonie, a tiny spot will provide many blooms!
Rita C. says
Beautiful mix of colors, Pam! I grew (multi-color) zinnias from seed this year instead of my Mexican sunflowers, and boy, have they delivered! I had to pull several and out into pots so they wouldn’t overtake my perennials! I have started saving some of those seeds for next year, and planted a few more existing seeds to overplant where my crocosmia were, hoping for more late summer blooms. .
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Rita. Zinnias can be prolific if they are happy. You should see late blooms!
Awakening Wonders says
Pam, I am having a delightful day now that I have been showered with your one-of-a-kind zinnia blooms!! I am sure the butterflies feel as if they have reached heaven when they arrive in your backyard!

My-O-My what a beautiful array…. It is off we’ll be to Johnny’s Seeds for certain….Agree with you
on the Queeny varieties. Your photos are exquisite in detail…and just look at the ordered formation of those details …. God’s paintbrush is flawless and exacting… Bless you for the iced
tea … it really enhanced the stroll. Delicious ~

Thank you, Mary. Iced tea is a necessity today. I am so happy you enjoyed the stroll!

My love of color was satisfied this morning..your zinnia’s are breath taking. All my favorite colors too! And the Joseph May poem tickled my funny. My late neighbor back in NC grew the largest zinnias I’ve ever seen. She only had a few in her very small patch and babied them.
Leslie Anne Tarabella says
Love the firey hot colors of Zinnias! I used to let me son clip-clip them and he loved being a big boy picking the flowers! Such a happy time with a happy flower!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
If you love color, zinnias will deliver! A fun memory with your son!

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the Queeny Lime Bush and the other Lime Bush as well. But truth be told… I love all the zinnias!
Walking out into your garden and seeing all the beautiful colors must make your heart go pitter-pat.
I have babied my zinnias and kept them hidden with chicken wire from the bunnies. The chicken wire is gone now. And because of you, I am glad to hear that deer do not like zinnias! I can stop worrying!
Beau pictures of your stunning zinnias!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Nancy. I hope your zinnias give you an explosion of color!
Nancy Brantley says
Beautiful zinnias. When I’ve planted seeds the squirrels dig them up and eat. Bunnies are eating my flowers now and the hostas.

Nancy, those pesky squirrels and bunnies!

Pam, how did you plant the zinnia seeds? Did you just mix them together and broadcast them in your beds? Could you give us information on what you did to have such a beautiful array of colors? I’m thinking of planting some seeds now for a late summer bloom.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hi Donna! I ordered several different colors and we do mix them up and plant them about a quarter to half inch deep. You should be able to have late summer/early fall blooms! Enjoy!
