Happy Tuesday sweet friends. Long time readers know that autumn is my favorite season. But not only my favorite season, but also my favorite color!
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 ESV
I am joining a group of talented table stylists for a Welcome Fall Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my friend, Rita from Panoply! You will find all the links for beautiful autumn tabletop inspiration at the bottom of this post.
After a dreadfully hot August in our Appalachian Foothills, I can hardly wait for the arrival of autumn. Meteorological autumn begins this Friday, September 1st with the autumnal equinox arriving on Saturday September 23rd.
I have always been drawn to the autumn color palette…scarlet red, honey gold, cinnamon orange, bronze brown…all seen when the leaves begin to turn from their summer green to the rich and vibrant colors of fall!
There were few physical signs of the fall season when I set my table in the garden. But, that didn’t prevent me from drawing from the autumn palette in my selection of dishware, flowers, and linens!
Collecting is a weakness! Many years ago I ran across four art glass handbags. I didn’t just purchase one or two, but all four. They were placed in a guest bedroom and last year while dusting it dawned on me to select one for a small bouquet. For this centerpiece, I chose three of them. Contained in these three petite handbags are flowers and herbs cut from our garden. The flower menu consists of zinnias, sunflowers, sunflower seed head, cosmos, lantana, black-eyed Susan’s, and purple fountain grass. For a lovely scent, rosemary, lemon balm, and sage were added. Days later the three arrangements still looked beautiful in my kitchen and the fragrance was heavenly.
This image shows the reverse side of the arrangements. I love to incorporate a keepsake that has a memory attached. Our son and daughter-in-love were married in my favorite month of October. As parents of the groom, RM and I hosted the rehearsal dinner. Honey colored tablecloths were custom made and I chose to use my Spode ‘Woodland’ pattern as a nod to autumn! The late afternoon light didn’t show the cloth’s actual color…
…but is better represented in this image. Wicker chargers, Spode ‘Woodland’ dinner plates, and fall bird salad plates (Hobby Lobby) provide autumn color and warmth. As photos were uploaded, I noticed the jeweled bird trinket box gave a 3D appearance.
Floral quilted placemats and matching napkins are wearing their autumn colors!
Amber-colored napkins rings and stemware complement the glass handbags!
Copper flatware adds a warm ambiance! As I was clearing the table…
…I had a thought, why not set it for dessert?!
“September days have the warmth of summer in their briefer hours, but in their lengthening evening a prophetic breath of autumn.”
~Rowland E. Robinson
“Autumn is the antidote to stifling summer.”
~Terri Guillemets
“Breaking away from the lingering grips of summer, and gaining freedom to embrace awaiting autumn, requires a September.”

Good Morning Pam, Autumn is my favorite color and season too! I love your trio of art glass handbags as vases for your flowers. What a wonderful combination of textures and colors your mini bouquets of garden flowers make! I especially love the wispy sprigs of fountain grass mixed among the colorful zinnias, black-eyed Susans and sunflowers. I missed those sweet bird plates at Hobby Lobby and love the framed with your Spode ‘Woodland’ dinner plates. Your bird trinket box looks right at home on your table and garden setting! Love the other amber details at your table from the napkin rings and goblets and warm copper flatware too. As always, it’s a treat to have a virtual seat at your table. Happy Tuesday ♥
Thanks so much, Mary. I went back a couple days later to purchase 4 more bird plates and they were all gone. Well, I didn’t really need them.
Pam, autumn and its rich color palette are also my favorites, and your table is certainly a beautiful tribute to both. I say this every post, but your garden draws me in with it’s seasonal beauty each time. Love Butch’s quote. I like to save these. His words ring true. I hope you have a little journal of these!
The flowers are so rich and stunning. Love the mix! And the darling glass handbags used as flower containers are a whimsical touch. The glass is fabulous! Your plate stack topped with the sweet trinket box is yet another reflection of your excellent style. Happy Almost Autumn, sweet friend!
Thank you, sweet Sarah. I need to keep a journal of Butch’s quotes, and thank you for the reminder. I hope you have cooler days, my friend!
Oh, Pam! Like you, my favorite season is Fall. Seeing the beauty at your “homestead” hit me at how many years I’ve known you. I believe it’s 3 now~but feels like my whole life, in a beautiful family way. The bird plates caught my eye right off the bat! The glass purses are perfect for the variety of flowers and herbs. Will you tell Butch that his quote is my favorite? I love the colors and hope with Autumn. I love you and pray for you both every day! Thank you for bringing so much beauty into our lives (and the October wedding is perfect!) 💛🙏🏻💐 🍁 🎶
Thank you dear one. Has it been three years? I couldn’t remember, but seems as if I have known you much longer. I told Butch, he was genuinely blessed by your comment. Love, hugs, and prayers always ♥️🤗🙏🏻
That’s so wonderful! It does seem longer! Perhaps 4! I’m so glad Butch enjoy that. It’s true! I always smile speaking your names to God during prayers! I love you as if you’ve been family forever!💛🙏🏻💕
Good morning, dear friend. Autumn seems far away with the heat we are having in St. Maarten, but I know that it will be here soon. I always think of you when I think of Autumn, knowing it is your favorite season. I love the art glass handbags, and do not remember ever seeing them; they are so beautiful. Love to you and all of the family.
Thank you, my friend. I hope y’all are enjoying your time away. Is it really hot !
Good Morning Pam. The woodland plates from Hobby Lobby are gorgeous. I also love that you have such beautiful fall color right in your own garden to be present on your table. Everything is gorgeous. Hugs. Kris
Thank you, Kris. Your comments always warm my heart!
Pam, you have created another magazine worthy post about our favorite season!! So gorgeous!! The setting is absolutely beautiful. I love the pops of bright fall colors you created with your garden flowers. Your place setting is fabulous, perfect for your outdoor setting. I hope you enjoy a wonderful fall season!!🧡🍂
Thank you, Ann. I can’t wait for fall weather. Happy fall season to you!
Good morning, Pam! Your autumn tablescapes are some of my most favorites! Like you, I am drawn to the colors of autumn. With the excessive heat of August, it cannot arrive soon enough! The fall inspired table you set in your lovely outdoor space is gorgeous. The Spode plates paired with the sweet bird plates are so pretty against the honey colored tables cloth. The centerpiece you created with the glass purses is just beautiful! I have so enjoyed my visit to your autumn table this morning. Happy Tuesday, dear friend!
Thank you, Shannon. I can’t wait for cooler weather. Happy week dear one!
Oh Pam, I adore your fall flower arrangements, the glass handbags are so unusual, and look great grouped together for your centerpiece~ love love the sunflowers and the fall colored blooms you’ve paired them with! The golden tablecloth is lovely and the placemats and woven chargers look lovely with your pretty plate stacks, and the gold goblets are another great pop of fall color! Now all we need is the temps to drop a bit so you can sit there and enjoy! As always, your garden setting steals the show, just beautiful!
Jenna
Jenna, thank you for the sweet comments. The air felt different this afternoon, drier and less humidity. Hopefully cooler weather will be here soon!
Darling Pam, thank you for beginning with my very favorite Bible verse. It is one I think about daily as it gives me a sense of peace. Your setting with the glass purses is lovely and definitely says Welcome Autumn! Seth’s October wedding must have been so wonderful, and how very special and intimate that you hosted the rehearsal dinner at your home. We are having big thunderstorms this morning, and I am loving it because the temperature has dropped. I literally thought I was going to self combust this weekend in the heat!
Roxanne, the verse also gives me a sense of peace which we need in our world today. I laughed out loud when I read that you thought you might self combust. You are so much fun, my friend!
I love the purses! Those are adorable. The bird salad plates are cute and pair perfectly with the Spode woodland dinner plates. The linens are so pretty. A very nice transition to Fall indeed. We’re loving the lower humidity we’re having right now. Enjoy your day. Clara❤️
Thank you, Clara. Our air felt drier this afternoon as the high humidity dropped ♥️
Sunflowers, zinnias, autumn colors and wonderful bird plates. I’d pop by your beautiful garden any day for dessert! I love your Woodland plates — they’re a gem. This is simply lovely.
Jeanie, it would be lovely if you could pop by for dessert. Thank you so much!
Pam, such a colorful and creative welcome fall table. Those art handbags are so pretty. They make the perfect vessel for zinnias, sunflowers, sunflower seed head, cosmos, lantana, black-eyed Susan’s, and purple fountain grass. Those handbags would be perfect for a Girls Night Out table. The Woodland plates are lovely. The amber goblets catch the sunlight. always a pleasure hopping along with you.
Thanks so much, Linda. I have had the art glass handbags for years and can’t remember where I found them!
Pam, your autumn table in the garden is beautiful and I really love the sweet bird plates! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Thank you, Cecilia!
This table is just gorgeous Pam! I love your choice of colors for the fall flower arrangements in those beautiful glass purses. How creative and what wonderful vases they make. The quilted placemats and rattan chargers add a wonderful texture to the place settings and the bird salads are perfect on your Spode. Love the touches of amber that you brought in with the stemware and napkin rings. Your garden looks lovely in the background. Happy fall lovely lady!
Kim, thank you dear one! Your comments are always sweet.
Pam, your table is so pretty! The little purse centerpieces are so cute, and I love how you were able to fill them from your garden. Zinnias are one of my favorites! I like your little green sunflower, too. I think I might have used a Spode Woodland table runner on my tablescape. I know it’s Spode, and it looks like your dinner plates. I say this every single time, but I love it when you share the gorgeous photos of your garden. What a gorgeous setting for dining alfresco! It truly brings me joy as your sharing of scripture. Happy Fall!
Ricki Jill, I am quite sure your runner is Spode Woodland. Thank you, we love our garden even though it is hard work! I love sharing scripture and pray that it will help someone!
Pam….first I love another of Butch’s quotes. Perfect for Fall explanation. Second, I love your Autumnal table with all the amber tones. I am a November girl and golden topaz or citrine are my birthstones and I wear a lot of those shades. Perhaps it is my red hair, but my closet houses lots of Fall colors….so I am right there with you in favoring the russets, browns, yellow, and golds. You know we are all fascinated with the little purses. So cute. I also love birds and those Hobby Lobby plates are adorable. I am envious of your cutting garden…I just hope after the next few days we still have a garden. 🙂 It is always fun to blog hop with you for all your inspiration. Blessings dear friend.
Thank you, Kari. Praying you are safe today 🙏🏻♥️
Amazing, Pam… Your beautiful colors made me swoon…Gorgeous dishes, unique little bags and adorable flowers. Such beauty!
Thank you, sweet friend!
Pam as usual you hav3 shown us how to welcome Fall in all of its glorious color. Fall used to be my favorite time of year but then I moved to Colorado. Our Summer is so short that if you blink you’ll miss it. And so as the days get shorter and the days cooler I feel sad knowing how long our Winters are. I suppose if I lived in Alabama I wouldn’t miss the humidity or sumner storms or hurricanes either.
Thank you, Alice. Short summers and long winters for you!
Pam, what a treasured find. The four (or three displayed) amber handbag vases are stunning. I love them. Such a warm color and they give the table a unique elegance with a bit of whimsy. Your choice of flowers to use really pop against the amber. Your choice of dinnerware relates to the classic charm of the table while the bold, bright flowers tailored to the playfulness. Perfect for the outdoors. Enjoy a beautiful (and, hopefully, more cooler, Fall).
Thank you, Marsha. I do look forward to cooler temperatures.
Well, Pam, you dazzled me with your table setting of autumn splendor! The bird box is just so wonderful and I’m curious if you place a little surprise in them for your guests?
Thank you, Mary. I have never placed a surprise, but maybe I should ☺️
Lovely outdoor setting, Pam. It really says welcome Fall. I enjoyed seeing you use the darling purses as your centerpiece. It enhanced the colors of your flowers. Bird plates are a favorite and they go so well with the rest of your table setting. Wishing you a lovely Fall.
Lynne
Thanks so much, Lynne. I was happy to find the bird plates.
Pam, this is absolutely lovely! The combination of soft colors in the linens and salad plates are the perfect foil for the bold shades of the garden flowers. And the vases! What could be better than gorgeous glass handbags?! I like the layered textures and the mix of glossy and matte finishes. Have a happy fall, when finally it arrives!
Thank you, Sandra. I hope fall arrives on time!
I’m back for more of this beautiful setting, Pam! Happy Thursday!
Sarah, you are so sweet!
Pam your Fall decorations are beautiful.
Marilyn,Joan and Marion
Thank you!
Beautiful decorations and flowers.
Marion,Joan and Marilyn
Thanks sweet ladies!
i’m with you, friend. autumn’s my favorite. these next two months are golden, aren’t they … even though i’m not at all ready to leave summer behind. fortunately, we can enjoy the gifts of both. i’m so grateful …
I can’t wait for all things autumn!
Pam, once again your beautiful backyard has me swooning. It may be my favorite setting for a lovely tablescape and gathering ever. The vibrant colors of your flowers are the perfect backdrop for your beautiful dishes. I love the fall floral napkins, too.
Thank you Carol for your sweet comments!
Pam, the lovely purse vases really do take center stage. They are unique and help tie the bountiful flowers together. Your fall will come soon, where you can spent many meals set in the garden,
Happy Fall
Thanks so much, Rachelle. Wishing you a lovely Labor Day Weekend.
Oh, Pam – this is so pretty. It really draws me in, and just feels like such a good transition to fall. All your flowers are perfect picks for lasting and effective colors, and those glass purse vases work beautifully with your stemware and napkin rings. We were very similar in our themes of working the florals and birds into our tables, a love we share (and the collecting, of course). I get such a good feeling when I see your grounds, the way Butch keeps them so meticulously groomed, and the way the sunlight strikes such welcoming glows. Save me a seat because someday I’d love to just there and take it all in. Thank you for participating in the hop and sharing your endless creativity.
You are so kind, Rita. I truly love autumn and all of its warm colors. Butch works hard to keep everything looking good, much more than I do.
I couldn’t agree more Pam! The colours of fall are so gorgeous. I love your trio of vases filled with flowers, so eye catching! Your woodland plates are perfectly paired with those napkins and place mats. I do love all the layers. As always, your yard is gorgeous and a stunning backdrop for your table!
Thanks so much, Maureen!
So beautiful, sweet friend! I am very excited that autumn is right around the corner and so looking forward to it. God bless you!
Thank you, sweet friend!
