Happy Labor Day sweet friends. I hope you are enjoying a long weekend of rest, relaxation, or maybe fun activities!
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
Psalm 103:8
It is the first Monday of the month and I am joining my friends Lidy and Mary for flower therapy and Monday Morning Blooms!
We are excited to welcome back Jennifer, from Celebrating Everyday Life, as our special guest today.
You can find the links to my friends’ beautiful floral inspiration at the bottom of this post.
Our common theme for September’s edition of Monday Morning Blooms is apples. September to mid October is prime time for apple picking in the not so far away North Georgia mountains. The town of Ellijay is famous for their apple farms and festivals and only a three hour drive for us! However, we didn’t drive to the mountains to pick the Honeycrisp and Granny Smith apples, instead only a twenty minute drive to the grocery store. Honeycrisp are one of my favorites for eating raw and Granny Smith are perfect for fried apple pies!
The smallest canister from a set of three was my choice for a vase. Think outside the box when considering a vessel for flowers. The canister was placed on a wood slice and apples were placed alongside. A short drive to a flower farm provided gorgeous dahlias. I have had little success in growing dahlias, but my friend Leah grows beautiful ones at her Deep Roots Flower Farm. Dahlias come in just about every color you can think of. Fourteen gorgeous dahlias in orange, peach and white were supported with chicken wire. To the dahlias I added cut flowers from our garden, zinnias, limelight hydrangeas, and Chaste tree blooms.
Bamboo skewers were used for honeycrisp apples that were placed around the top of the canister.
A plaid tablecloth with autumn colors was chosen to complement the flowers and dishware.
“Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first of September was crisp as an apple.”
~J.K. Rowling
Burlap placemats, faux leather chargers, majolica dinner plates, and April Cornell ‘dahlia days’ napkins work together to highlight the vintage Johnson Brothers ‘Harvest Time’ scalloped dinner plates. I love the brown multi color fruit and leaves pattern that is perfect for fall! I have six place settings of Harvest Time that I discovered at a local antique mall several years ago for a very reasonable price.
“The goldenrod is yellow, the corn is turning brown, the trees in apple orchards with fruit are bending down.”
~Helen Hunt Jackson
Napoleon tortoise flatware, that is often used, is still available at Horchow.
Vintage Fostoria iced tea stemware in the Jamestown pattern is sometimes called purple, I say it is brown. What do you think?
“Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.”
~Samuel Butler
My Mother’s glider, that you see behind my table, sat on her screened porch for years. I have many happy memories, as summer’s heat began to fade and pleasant autumn arrived, of sharing a cup of coffee with a bowl of warm apple cobbler or a slice of apple cake.
“September is dressing herself in showy dahlias and splendid marigolds and starry zinnias.”
~Oliver Wendell Holmes
Our cottage garden, in the background, provided the zinnias for the flower arrangement!
My friends have set lovely tables with beautiful florals for your enjoyment. Be sure to visit Lidy, Mary, and Jennifer!

Good Morning Pam! I’m swooning over your arrangement with your pretty mix of dahlias from your friend’s flower farm! Your canister makes the perfect vessel for your bouquet of garden, flower farm blooms and apples. Your plaid tablecloth provides the perfect foundation for your table and dish stack. I have a special place in my heart for ‘Harvest Time’ by Johnson Brothers as it was my grandmother’s pattern. I have a hodge podge of pieces of hers and I love the combination of soft browns and greens for fall. I always enjoy having a seat a table in your garden! We enjoyed a teaser of fall with lower humidity and cooler temperatures over the weekend but the heat and humidity are returning this week. As always, it’s a treat to share blooms with you on these Mondays. Happy Labor Day ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Mary. Those sweet dishes from your grandmother make for lovely memories. The temps are back up today. We only had an autumn tease!
Nancy says
Good Morning, dear Pam. I am up early and saw you had posted. I am about to make my tea, but first, let’s look at your beautiful arrangement of dahlias in a canister! I am amazed by your creativity. The Harvest Time dishes are so special, with the plaid tablecloth and delicious apples. So pretty!
Many beautiful quotes as well.
Thank you for the inspiration, and Happy Labor Day dear friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hello, Nancy. Thank you for always visiting and leaving sweet comments. I just know you are riding in the boat on your beautiful lake. Enjoy!
marmeladegypsy says
My mom grew dahlias and I remember that they took a lot of work. But they certainly make for a beautiful and splashy arrangement, don’t they? And so perfect at this time of year. Your setting is lovely.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Jeanie! I hope you are having a good day!
Alice Genzlinger says
I say the Fostoria stemware is brown too. My first stemware pattern was also Fostoria in green. It was very inexpensive way back then. I too have happy memories of a glider, my grandmothers glider. It sat on her front porch and when there was no breeze I swung even harder to create my own breeze. She made wonderful Apple Jacks and applesauce. She cooked on a wood stove all year long and the summer never slowed her down. Air conditioning is wonderful but hers were opened windows throughout the house not a fan in sight. Us grandchildren loved sleeping on pallets in front of screened doors left wide open. Those times will never be repeated and that’s a shame. Have a blessed and happy Labor Day.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you for sharing precious memories of your grandmother. My maternal grandmother cooked on a wood stove when I was little girl, even though she had an electric one. She said food on a wood stove tasted better and so think she was correct. Her food was fabulous, I can still taste her cornbread!
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
Beautiful table! One of these years, you and Butch need to come to Hendersonville for the Labor Day weekend and the Apple Festival! It isn’t much further than Highlands from you.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
We should do that Carole, it sounds like a fabulous festival.
Clara says
What a beautiful floral arrangement and tablescape Pam. The plate stack is so pretty and you know I love the linens! I tried growing dahlias too but they didn’t so well for me either. Honey crisp apples are so delicious. You are so lucky to be close to several flower farms. We’ve been teased with lower humidity and temps but that’s changing back to more summer temps. Elijah looks interesting. I looked it up and October would be a good time to visit. Enjoy your Labor Day! Clara❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Clara. Ellijay would be a great fall getaway for you! Also Blue Ridge is lovely. Our temps are climbing again, I knew it was only a tease ♥️
FrenchGardenHouse says
Absolutely beautiful Pam! Your dahlias are such wonderful colors, that canister is the perfect colored container to show them off. You are so gifted in layering, I love all the patterns and textures you brought to this stunning fall table. Oh how I would love to join you ( most likely for the indoor version! It’s been so h o t) at this, or any other table. It’s always a blessing to get together for our beloved Monday Morning Blooms, dear friend. Wishing you lots of golden and cool fall days ahead! Xo Lidy
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Lidy! Yes, the indoor version would be appropriate for today. I hope you are having a lovely Labor Day, dear friend!
Linda Primmer says
Pam, you set a lovely table with the Apple Time dishes against the plaid tablecloth. The backdrop of beautiful cottage gardens always invite me right in. How fortunate to have a friend that grows dahlias. They look gorgeous in your canister vessel. The vintage Fostoria glassware looks brown and compliments the Napoleon tortoise shell flatware. A pretty sight to welcome in an early fall.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Linda! Wishing you a wonderful week, dear one!
Awakening Wonders says
Thanks Pam for the beautiful September ‘flower therapy’! Your table setting is exquisite – I love how you chose a series of small fall detailed items to bring the setting together!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Mary. I so appreciate your visit and sweet comments.
Roxanne Bernard says
Pam, this may be one of your most beautiful arrangements ever! It is just exquisite. It makes me wish I could paint (art, not decks!). I was not familiar with the China pattern, but it is perfect with the flowers. It is so special that you have your mother’s glider and so many warm memories. I remember sitting on our front porch swing with my mother. She loved a little mug of cornbread with “pot liquor” from her greens for an afternoon snack…I thought that was yucky and would much rather have had your apple desserts!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, you are so sweet. How funny about your mother. Cornbread and pot liquor is not bad at all, I don’t think I would want it for an afternoon snack 🤣 I love cornbread and could eat it anytime. Enjoy your week!
Rita C. says
I love seeing not only the Monday Morning Blooms posts, but also the tables when you gals choose to incorporate those into your themes. Beautiful combination of your dish and textile collections, and the flowers are lovely. The dahlias are the stars, but those zinnias, limelights and chaste blooms are definitely strong supporting characters! I do love the soft peachy colors. The napkins and plate stack are wonderful. How fun to use and re-use all the variety in your arsenal!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Rita. I don’t need to buy anything else, but dishes and linens are so hard to resist.
Kris @ Junk Chic Cottage says
The Dahlias are beautiful. You have a wonderful mix that compliment each other. Very very pretty. Have a great week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Kris. You, too!
Jenna says
Your flower arrangement is beautiful Pam, the apples are the perfect way to bring in a Fall touch. Your plate stack is fabulous with Fall colors and lots of different textures. I love the stemware, and I would call it brown. Another wonderful table in your garden setting welcoming Fall!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Jenna. This was a fun one to do!
Kitty says
Oh Pam, I love the idea of using a pretty canister for your colorful centerpiece. I have one single teacup and saucer of JB Harvest Time and I’ll be getting it out for my seasonal Fall teacups that I’ll use. You were lucky to get that set! I think the stemware is brown, too, and looks perfect with your flatware. Thank you for the inspiration.
Btw, I sit on a glider on my patio when it’s not over 100 degrees!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Kitty. I really was fortunate to get the set, there are a few minor chips, but that means it had been used and probably loved. Oh my the 100 degree temperatures are brutal. Happy Tuesday!
Connie Cover says
Pam, I am absolutely in love with this floral arrangement! Using the canister is such a great idea. Thanks for brightening my day.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Connie. I am so glad you enjoyed!
Kari says
Such a pretty table Pam. And yes, it says Fall for sure. I have to agree the glasses look brown to me, however in the first pic, I thought they were purple. I guess it is how the light catches the color. Your canister vase is lovely, brimming with blooms. I especially enjoyed the zinnias growing in the background at the cottage. And your Mother’s glider…has to bring back such fun memories. Isn’t it amazing that as we age, we come to realize and appreciate our memories of long ago?…I wonder why we are so late with our reminiscent thoughts? I guess with age comes wisdom and when we are young we are too busy to take the time to appreciate “the good ole days”. LOL Have a wonderful and Blessed week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
You are a sweetheart, thank you Kari. Blessings dear one!
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
Pam, this entire setting is absolutely breathtaking! Your floral arrangement is gorgeous with the dahlias, limelight hydrangeas, and zinnia blooms. The purple chaste tree blossoms add such a wonderful pop of color and interest to your bouquet. Apples are the perfect finishing touch. It is such a treat to visit you and dream of fall’s arrival. We reached 100 degrees today. Cooler temps can’t arrive fast enough. Enjoy your week, dear friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Shannon. I can’t wait for fall weather. Hopefully soon!
Heritage Hall says
Just love the post-Summertime reminder in the colorful dahlias, but the table covering and settings in those mellow tones welcomed Autumn in a grand way.
I finally succumbed and got a set of your tortoise flatware (which I have always
admired) for our Fall table … your creativity is a dangerous threat to this budget …..
but elegant and timeless…
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Mary. I love using the tortoise flatware and I hope you will enjoy!
Nancy Ruegg says
I too love dahlias and Honey Crisp apples! Never would have thought to put them together in a centerpiece as you did. Also love the wooden base, giving the arrangement more presence. SO admire and enjoy your creative genius, Pam!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Nancy. Your comments warm my heart!
Francean Gospodarek says
Pam, dahlias are so symmetrical and gorgeous! So lovely
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Francean.
Kim says
What a beautiful table Pam and I love all the elements that you chose for your fall table. The flowers are gorgeous and oh my, those dahlias are so so pretty. The apple mixed in with the flowers just says fall as does the plaid tablecloth and dahlia napkins. I love how the tortoise flatware and the ice tea goblets play off one another (it looks brown to me) and the Johnson Brothers Harvest Time was a great find and looks fabulous. Sorry to be so late in commenting; its been a crazy week. I hope you have a great rest of the week!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Dearest Kim, you are not late. I just appreciate all of your lovely comments and visits!
Cheryl says
I love the stemware, and I agree that it looks brown! I would never have thought to add apples in the actual arrangement. You come up with the most wonderful ideas and are so gifted. I noticed the glider before I read the part where you mentioned it. You must miss her so much. I miss my dear parents terribly, too. God bless and comfort you, sweet friend.

Pam, I’m loving this look back. You inspire me with every post, my friend. Thank you!
