Hello dear friends. On this second day of October, I am welcoming my favorite month!
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
Proverbs 4:23
With autumn being my favorite season and October my favorite month, I love Lucy Maud Montgomery’s quote, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are October’s.”
We have had nice weather, with warm days and cooler nights. Last week there were days of clouds and overcast skies, but not one drop of rain. I normally take photos in the late afternoon, but I took these in the middle of the day with very little sunlight and cool breezes.
I look forward to the first Monday of each month when I, along with my friends, Lidy and Mary, share our love for flowers and Monday Morning Blooms!
Our special guest today is Shannon from Belle Bleu Interiors. She has joined us many times sharing her beautiful home and classic style. You will find the links for Lidy, Mary, and Shannon at the bottom of this post.
Our common theme for October’s edition of Monday Morning blooms is pumpkin(s). After all, what would autumn be without pumpkins? I can never have enough pumpkins and they are my mainstay for fall decorating. For the past few years, I have been buying pumpkins from a sweet couple that plants acres of seeds and their huge crop is harvested in early September. They only have a one day sale with people lining up before they open. We were on our river cruise the day they opened. To the rescue, was my sweet daughter-in-love who was on a mission to make sure I had pumpkins. EM and EK enjoyed helping choose what they thought I might like.
The tablesetting features pumpkin colors, pumpkin plates, and a blooming pumpkin!
Since our theme is pumpkin and I have an abundant supply, it was the natural choice as a flower vessel. I cut the stem shorter so that wet floral foam would attach to it and stay in place. This is an easier method than cutting the top off and removing the inside flesh, and also leaves the pumpkin in tact for other uses. A visit to Deep Roots Flower Farm resulted in gorgeous and colorful dahlias. To the dahlias, I added flowers and stems cut from my garden…autumn fire sedum, Egyptian starcluster, and blush nandina. A stack of pumpkins is in the background.
The tablesetting was kept simple to allow the blooming pumpkin to be the star!
Checked placemats, plaid chargers, pumpkin-colored dinner plates, Williams Sonoma pumpkin still life salad plates, Napoleon tortoise flatware, and my favorite tricolor stemware complete each place setting.
The cottage garden has been a great source for cut flowers and a nice background for photos!
“I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”
~ Henry David Thoreau
The stemware’s colors of peridot, amethyst, and amber remind me of fall!
“It looked like the world was covered in a cobbler crust of brown sugar and cinnamon .”
~Sarah Addison Allen
A pumpkin tablecloth is pulled out each year and put into service!
The Sunshine Cottage porch is dressed in her autumn finery! I hope you will be back on Thursday as I will be sharing the porch.

Good Morning Pam, Gorgeous dahlias and garden blooms on your pumpkin! You’re so fortunate to have helpers pick your pumpkins for you while you were out of town. They must have needed a minivan to transport all those pretty pumpkin specimens I see around The Sunshine Cottage. 😊 Love seeing the zinnias blooming in the background and plumes of the maiden grass in your cottage garden. Such a beautiful tablecloth with its checked and pumpkin border too. Love your tri-color stems and choice of tortoise flatware to pair with my favorite still life WS dinnerware. As always, it’s a treat to share blooms with you and have a virtual seat at your table. Happy October 🍂🍁🧡

Good morning Pam! What a glorious table you set, it speaks of cooler temperatures and falling leaves. The arrangement on the pumpkin is exquisite. What an amazing area you live in with pumpkin, dahlia, and hydrangea farms! And how blessed you are with your very special Girl Squad to lasso all those pumpkins! I’m sure sure there were wonderful memories made that day! (I can still remember being about 7 and driving with my mother into the woods to pick palmetto fronds for her garden club flower arrangement competition…she won!).
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Roxanne! Yes, my girl squad came to my rescue! Thanks for sharing that lovely memory. I love palmetto!

Beautiful table Pam! I would say your helpers did a fine job of finding the perfect pumpkins. My guess is they have been around you so much that they know your taste in sizes and shapes. What a compliment from them to you. Your color palette is lovely and the flowers are enhancing your table. Your place settings make me want to sit at your table and enjoy the weather as the hot simmering sun gives way to cooler Autumn temps. looking forward to the table hop next week to see how you use your bounty of flowers and pumpkins. Hugs my friend.

Oh, that stemware! I absolutely love it! And you are such a creative genius to think of using a pumpkin as the flower container! I also love that you didn’t disturb the inside of the pumpkin and were able to pull it off with attaching the floral foam to the outside. Just amazing! I am looking forward to seeing your Sunshine Cottage porch decor. As you can see, I am behind (as usual) and trying to catch up on blog reading today. God bless you, sweet friend!
