Happy June dear friends!
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.”
Psalm 23:1-2 (ESV)
A simple pleasure is found in setting a table in my garden on a late afternoon as the sun begins its journey to meet the horizon and the air starts to cool. A symphony of birdsong fills the air and the intoxicating fragrance of gardenia is carried on a gentle breeze!
It is the first Monday of the month and I am joining my flower friends, Lidy and Mary for Monday Morning Blooms! Our common theme for June’s edition is ‘garden’.
We are excited to welcome a first-time guest, Rita from Panoply! She is a fellow garden enthusiast, antique dealer, tablescaper, traveler, a sweet friend, and the “hostess with the mostess” of our Tablescape Blog Hops! You will find the links for beautiful inspiration from Lidy, Mary, and Rita at the bottom of this post.
An Arthur Court seeded glass canister, the smallest of a set of three, was used as a vase for my flowers. It is hydrangea season in the South and they just happen to be one of my favorite flowers! My sweet friend, Martha, provided these gorgeous Snowflake, Annabelle, Invincibelle Spirit, and French hydrangea blooms. Because our garden is in a sunny location, we can grow Hydrangea Paniculata. Vanilla Strawberry, Limelights, and Little Lambs will begin to bloom late June or early July! We have a couple of newly planted French (macrophylla) hydrangeas in shaded areas that hopefully will be in full bloom next year.
‘Victorian Rose’ tablecloth is by April Cornell. I love AC linens for their English garden style, so perfect for the breakfast table, dining room, or the garden!
The garden is my go-to place for spring, summer, and autumn tablesettings! Our garden was established in 2015. There have been great successes and many garden fails. Trial and error is to be expected with gardening. Living in the country with a few hundred acres and a river out back provides ideal habitat for wildlife and critters of all kinds, making it a challenge to keep unwanted visitors away from our garden!
“It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.”
~Maud Hart Lovelace
In the background you can see a corner of the cottage garden. It is planted with zinnias, marigolds, Veronica (speedwell), herbs, Autumn Fire sedum, and several containers of annuals.
‘Baroque’ chargers by American Atelier, Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic Pheasant’ dinner plates, and antique Crown Ducal salad plates hand painted by R.E. Hague were selected to complement the flowers. Each Crown Ducal plate has a different hand-painted flower with hydrangeas on the one pictured above!
I love using elements on the table that have memories attached. A friend of my beloved Mother gave me the antique etched Fostoria stemware that adds a touch of elegance to a garden table!
A dear friend gave me the flower napkin rings and I thought they were perfect for a garden table. The embroidered napkins have been in my linen collection for years. Brush copper colored flatware completes each place setting.
“A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.”
~Gertrude Jekyll
The Chrysanthemum salad plate shown above is one of the set of four. Two others, not featured up close, are a camellia and a poppy.
“All gardening is landscape painting.”
~William Kent
“Gardens are not made by singing ’Oh, how beautiful,’ and sitting in the shade.”
~Rudyard Kipling
Long-time readers might notice that the back of the garden looks different. I will explain in an upcoming garden post!

Good Morning Pam, Your bouquet and centerpiece of hydrangeas is beautiful! How wonderful to have a friend with a hydrangea farm and a variety to choose from. I know you look forward to having some French hydrangeas to cut and enjoy next year. Your ‘Victorian Rose’ tablecloth makes a lovely foundation for a garden table. You have the most beautiful garden variety of April Cornell linens! I love your plate stack topped with your hand painted Crown Ducal plates, the pretty etched goblets, sweet flower napkin rings and brushed copper flatware. Such pretty light you captured and time of day for dining in your garden.
As always, it’s treat to join you at the table and share some flower therapy with you. Happy June 🌸 🐝 💐 💗

Pam, you chose a beautiful time of day to capture the beauty of garden blooms and tablesetting. The hydrangeas are gorgeous, and I’m sure you’re anxiously awaiting your newest variety to take off. One of mine, now in its 3rd year of transplanted location, is finally waking up to putting on a show of blooms.
At first glance I thought the dinner plate was Famille Rose, but nonetheless, the stack is so pretty against the tablecloth and florals. Like you, I love a memory attached to elements such as your glassware and napkin rings. Even if the memory comes from an estate of those before us, I find joy in using those items.
Your garden as backdrop is so inviting, so pretty. I know all too well of the challenges we face as gardeners, but even with the best of care, plants’ lives play out. I think I know what difference is in yours, but look forward to your update.
Thank you so much for welcoming me among the MMB group this month. It is a pleasure to join you!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Rita! Our weather has been cooler, so the garden has been delightful. Soon heat and humidity will be oppressive, and I will have garden in the early morning. I am so happy you could join us today!

So beautiful in every way to view your table this morning! I love the mixture of hydrangeas and the AC tablecloth shows your flowers and plate stack up so well. You are right the sweet and beautiful etched goblets add elegance to your garden table.
I am well aware of all the challenges gardens offer year to year. Your quotes are delightful! They add a beautiful element to your posts.
I relate to the hard work and challenges a garden requires. I was fighting a huge crop of wines and weeds yesterday after being away for two weeks. The Rudyard Kipling quote resonated with me.
Lovely copper flatware and sweet napkin and napkin ring completed your garden table well. Bonnie
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Bonnie. Yes, we have had many challenges already in the garden. I can imagine all the weeds after being gone for 2 weeks. Rain all around this morning! Happy Tuesday!
