Happy Tuesday, friends! In the midst of my favorite month, which is also my birthday month, I continue to pray for all of those who have been impacted from Hurricane Helene. As we enjoy autumn, let’s not forget our fellow Americans who are suffering. And, by all indications, our neighbors in Florida are again facing a major hurricane, as Milton will likely make landfall Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
“For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.””
Galatians 5:14 (ESV)
I am excited to join sixteen table stylists for a Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my friend, Rita from Panoply. You will find all of the links for fun and creative tables at the bottom of this post.
Long-time readers know that I live out in the country with a view of the Appalachian Foothills. I was a city girl when I married my Renaissance Man, but after six years of marriage we built our hillside home in the country. I never dreamed that I would love country living, but I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Wildlife is plentiful, including deer, turkeys, raccoons, foxes, skunks, opossums, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes…and unfortunately armadillos that moved to NE Alabama a few years ago. Bird sightings include bald eagles, owls, crows, vultures, hawks, woodpeckers, doves, geese, ducks, herons, pelicans, and many others. Of course a variety of songbirds and hummingbirds visit according to the season. These thoughts inspired a different kind of Halloween table. I have never been a fan of Halloween, but I have enjoyed making child-friendly tables for my three grandchildren. When I discovered the Susan Winget ‘Pine Forest’ salad plates at Hobby Lobby, my inspiration table was complete. Our picnic table sits at the wood’s edge full of pine trees!
Goldenrods grow wild all around our home place and look very autumnal in the pumpkin-colored bottles. You can catch a glimpse of our Appalachian Foothills from this view of the table!
RM stacked three hay bales in front of the split rail fence. If you look closely you can spot a trio of crows eyeing the table and one even flew in to perch atop the cupcake stand!
The yummy popcorn is candy corn flavored with a coating of white chocolate. Yikes, I keep helping myself to a handful!
I let the grands choose their plate for our party that we will have before Halloween. These plates are so sweet, Mamas with their babies! EM chose the deer, EK chose the fox, WL chose the raccoon, and I was left with the wise old owl!
I pulled out a favorite tablecloth with fall colors and special napkins that have a memory attached. Our son and daughter-in-love had a beautiful October wedding that was held in an apple orchard. They celebrated their twelfth anniversary yesterday. The napkins were part of the table settings for the reception held in a lovely barn venue!
Delicious flavored shortbread cookies were enjoyed by the grands after I photographed the table.
Wyatt was fascinated by the crows and asked if he could touch one!
The children love apples, so there is a healthy treat on the table! From this side of the table, there is a view of the Sunshine Cottage, where my granddaughters and I enjoy spending time together.
Pumpkin-colored dinner plates were a great find at Tuesday Morning several years ago. I still miss their store, do you?
The table is mainly for our grandchildren, but can certainly be enjoyed by adults!
“There is a child in every one of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly lit front porch.”
~Robert Brault
I have many fond childhood memories of growing up in our neighborhood. All of the parents were close to the same age and there were a total of nineteen kids that were near enough in age to play together. The house across the street had a large vacant lot and it was where we gathered. The games of summer included Mother May I, Hide-and-Seek, 1, 2, 3 Red Light, and baseball to name just a few…
…Halloween was always a special neighborhood event. We never had expensive costumes, but we all had fun masks. The parents made sure we had wonderful home-made treats such as caramel popcorn and candied apples. Of course, there were the normal store-bought treats, but I alway preferred the candied apples. It was a carefree childhood in the 50’s and 60’s. Oops, did I just give away my age?? Do you share similar memories?
Later this month we will have our annual pumpkin carving, grilling of hot dogs, and roasting marshmallows around the fire pit. It is a fun time with our son, daughter-in-love and three grandchildren.
RM sowed rye grass the day before our only significant rain in several months. It came up in 3 or 4 days and we’ve been amazed at how it has grown and how green it is. I was not expecting to have such a pleasant color addition around the table setting!

Pam, Your tablesetting is beautiful for fall or Halloween with your grands! I love the woodland setting with haybales and pumpkins, lush green rye grass in the background, Susan Winget ‘Pine Forest’ plates and beautiful April Cornell tablecloth. Anyone would be delighted to sit at your table with the scenery and tranquil views. Love the shot of the crow with the bokeh in the background! The annual pumpkin carving with your grands, including hot dogs, and roasting marshmallows around the fire pit sounds like a wonderful time that your grands will look back on for years to come. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Happy Tuesday! 🧹🎃👻🕸️💀🧡

Well, Wise Owl, those plates are darling! The pumpkin bottles for vases are gorgeous! The entire setting is perfect for Fall or Halloween. Your grands have got to be so excited to be able to sit at this table because I know I would be! The picture of the crow with the bokeh is outstanding.
This may be one of my favorite tables of yours. It is elegant, simple, and fun!
Oh, I also love hearing about your family memories and reading how you all add to them each year. Family love!
Thank you for the inspiration!

I don’t know how I commented under Mary’s comment??? I think I may need another cup of coffee.

What a warm and welcoming table – the plates are so cute and perfect for your “land in the wild”! You certainly see a lot of animals and birds in your neck of the woods! The colors on our table are so pretty and I wish I could have a handful of that popcorn! I am sure the grandchildren enjoyed this and look forward to your next gathering!

I’m not sure, but it seems like I remember reading somewhere that Goldenrod used to be the state flower of Alabama. It’s all over the place here. I guess when they figured out it caused great allergies they changed to the softer Camellia. – I still love the Goldenrod! — And your woodland plates!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Leslie Anne! You are correct, the goldenrod was our original state flower and it is a native. The camellia is gorgeous and I love the blooms, but it is not native to Alabama. Oh well, not a big deal! Happy autumn days!

Pam, if I had wings, I’d fly in and join those crows at this darling table. I would sit in sheer awe of that wonderful view, taking in all the beauty of nature that surrounds you. You and Butch made a great decision all those years ago. I’d have a difficult time choosing my plate among these darling mamma and baby pairs, but if you’ll share, I’d take the wise owl with her owlet. Always a pleasure to hop with you, Pam. Enjoy this beautiful setting with the grands. Happy Halloween!
