Fall Returns To The Sunshine Cottage Porch

October 17, 2024~ Autumn, Fall, Sunshine Cottage

Happy Thursday, sweet friends. By now you all know how much I love the fall season! Grab a cup of coffee and join me on the Sunshine Cottage Porch, you might need your coat!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭27‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

The Sunshine Cottage porch is dressed in rich autumn colors!

Three new autumn additions were added by RM for our grandchildren! I think he likes to spoil them.

Charlotte Daisy enjoys sitting on the porch and observing all the “goings on” around the garden! She has a collection of fall’s bounty in the autumnal-log sitting beside her.

Tis the season for pumpkins! Can one ever have too many?

The pale pink ‘Knucklehead’ (warty) pumpkin is EM’s favorite!

In case you missed Charlotte Daisy’s tea party you can see it here. She is quite proud of herself for throwing her first ever party! Now she has decided to take it easy and enjoy porch sitting!

Pumpkin stacks are festive and fun! I am fond of the candy corn pumpkin. This is the first year that I have seen them!

The small wheel barrow comes out every fall and has taken on a variety of seasonal items, with each year offering something new and a little different! I never know what RM might place in it, sometimes while I’m not looking!

Twilight falls on the Cottage Garden as another picture perfect autumn day is coming to a close.

Cotton boll wreaths return each year to adorn the antique doors!

The grandchildren named the three scarecrows…from left to right…Summer, Pantsy, and Ellis! EM explained their names, but I will spare the details!

“It is a delightful pastime to sit in the pleasant sunshine of autumn, and gaze from this little spot over such a landscape.”
~H.T. Tuckerman

In the background, the bicycle’s basket is full of, you guessed it…pumpkins!

Again, as twilight settles in, an “autumnal glow” is upon the porch and garden.

RM cut goldenrods for the basket and wasps found the blooms immediately. I noticed I caught one in flight!

The ginkgo should be turning yellow soon! We aren’t sure we will see much color since we have been in a drought.

Thank you for your visit and gracious comments. Wishing you pleasant October days!

The pumpkin stacks are indeed a fun way to display those autumn squash. They are in the squash family, aren’t they? I have a big pumpkin I’ve waited to put outside until yesterday due to the heat. Your gorgeous fall porch needs me to come sit with a cup of coffee and fuzzy sweater. Ahhhh, wouldn’t that be fun? Enjoy the orangy- squash season!

Good morning, Pam! Sunshine Cottage looks absolutely gorgeous adorned for fall. Seeing all of the beautiful photos with rich autumnal color made me smile. I adore pumpkins, and you have gathered quite a wonderful collection. Charlotte Daisy did such a wonderful job hosting her tea party this week that she deserves a break sitting on the porch. The three new scarecrows are precious! We are in a terrible drought here too. I don’t think we will see much fall color, but it has finally started to cool off. Enjoy your day, dear friend!

I love the Sunshine Cottage, Pam. Fall is such a rejuvenating time after such a hot summer, in spite of the leaves falling and the cycle of life ending. All your porch decor is so fun, and the grands must absolutely be giddy each time they come over and see Da has provided a new visual treat. I can imagine how Summer and Pantsy got their names, but Ellis baffles me. Curious minds want to know! As for those pumpkin stacks, one thing I know for certain – there is a delicate balance to stacking! It’s all very fun and creative, Pam, and the glow of the autumn garden is beautiful.

Butch, although I’m not always able to comment on your posts, I typically see them and love all the nature landscapes, learning (cotton!), sunsets, sunrises, quotes, and everything that happens around your Heavenly Homestead! Fall is my favorite time of year. Pam and Butch–I’ve been working part-time and was also told, “To not overdo it.” I’m leaving for Texas to visit my oldest son and family (we’re going camping at Big Bend National Park). I’ve been given strict orders from drs, family, other loved ones. I’ve had struggles; yet, so many have it worse! I count each day I’m here a blessing. I miss when I’m not here visiting your beautiful place!
I’m sending much love and prayers to your entire precious family. We all wish you pleasant and bountiful October days! 💛🍂🩷🙏🤗

We’ve slept with the windows open…it’s be glorious. We’re warming back up to the 80s next week so it’s short lived. We had 7 inches of rain 3 weeks ago from Helene, but not a drop since. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice. I am sharing Tea on Tuesdays with Shannon @bellebleuinteriors and Mary homeiswheretheboatis.net Link in my Bio will take you to my blog post! Stay warm and safe!
