Counting Our Blessings

November 5, 2024~ Autumn, Blog hop, Fall, Family, Tablescapes, Thanksgiving

Happy Tuesday sweet friends. November holds within its thirty days a special day to count our blessings. The fourth Thursday of November is not only a gathering for reflecting and remembering the blessings of the past year, it also challenges us to express heartfelt gratefulness each day until Thanksgiving greets us again next year! Let thankfulness be 365!

“Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭20‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

I am excited to join 16 table stylists for a Thanksgiving Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my lovely friend, Rita from Panolpy. You will find all of the links for tabletop ideas and inspiration at the bottom of this post.

Blessing upon blessing does our Heavenly Father richly bestow on us! I count it a blessing to wake up each morning, walk to the kitchen, and make my coffee. As each day progresses however, I need to remind myself to spend time counting my blessings and not adding up my complaints!

The table is set with my favorite autumn dishes, “Woodland” by Spode. There are eight different game and water fowl plates that are framed by the British Flowers border which dates back to 1831. This plate depicts the pintail male and female. Each dinner plate rests upon American Atelier ‘Baroque’ chargers and pheasant feather placemats.

The Italian linen tablecloth is from Le Telerie Toscane, a shop in Florence, Italy. I can’t remember where I found it stateside, but it is one of my favorite linens!

A simple edible centerpiece of apples in an Italian bowl is a no fuss idea for your Thanksgiving table. The bowl sits on an antique floral and fruit platter that I found in an antique shop years ago.

Mini cornucopias were filled with wheat, Indian corn, gourds, dried okra, and persimmons that were placed alongside the centerpiece!

Wood ducks are beautifully depicted on this plate. They are often spotted in our wildlife park.

The beauty of the tablecloth can be seen in this image.

Amber colored stemware is a favorite for autumn!

The napkin rings gifted from a dear friend add jewelry to the table!

Mallard ducks grace this plate. I originally purchased the Spode plates and feather placemats because my Renaissance Man loves wildlife and the outdoors. Those who follow his Simple + Southern Sunday posts often see his treks through the woodlands and the wildlife park. He has a discerning eye and discovers what most would never see. His major in college was biology with a concentration on wildlife. After graduation, he considered moving to Colorado to study further. We decided to stay put in our Appalachian Foothills, and it has definitely been a blessing to be near family.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

I photographed on a partly cloudy day that allowed the outdoors to be in view. The copper candle stands were purchased in a local shop that carries many unique items!

Antler sheds and turkey feathers are easily found in our woodlands and pastures.

Many memories are attached to this tablesetting. The Reed and Barton stainless flatware was one of the last gifts my beloved Mother gave me. The undeserved blessing of Godly parents, who raised me in a Christian home, are blessings for which I could never be grateful enough.

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”

Good Morning Pam, What a stunning tablecloth…I don’t remember seeing it before! I love the simplicity of the apples as a centerpiece flanked by your candle stands and mini cornucopias. I have long admired your Spode Woodland and love the different images available. Your amber stemware, napkin rings, pheasant feather placemats and antler sheds add beauty as well as a bit of nature to your table. As always, it’s a treat to have a virtual seat at the table. Happy Tuesday! 🦃🧡

Pam, your tablescape is so well put together and so beautiful as a result. The refined touch of the white Atelier charger plates allows the bold features of that linen to really stand out. I love that. And all the touches of this season, and how appropriately in tune with Butch’s and Seth’s love of the outdoors, really adds a personal touch in the sheds, the choice of the Spode salads, and the pheasant placemats. Butch’s observations on his weekly treks are something I always look forward to. Your centerpiece of fruit, the cornucopia contents and sheds on the table reflect part of what we often see through Butch’s eyes. That aligned view from the dining table to the garden beyond has me completely in awe how it is perfectly placed! Such a gorgeous, gorgeous view.
Thank you for participating in this blog hop of countless blessings, you being one of those!

Your table is exquisite. I am swooning over your tablecloth. It is quite stunning. The addition of natural elements and the simplicity of apples as a centerpiece are quite lovely and add to the elegance of the tablecloth. The Woodland Spode China is perfect for Thanksgiving. And goes along with Butch and Seth and their love for the outdoors. The memories of your Mother are also at the table with her silverware gift to you.

Count your many blessings name them one by one. Hope I get to sing that song on that Thursday set aside to give thanks. The view to the garden is lovely. It’s the first time you’ve shown it when showing your table I think. And you have an amazing memory also because you name everything and where you found it. Wish those stores that didn’t make it through Covid were still here. We are expecting snow Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. My body feels it coming.

Pam, this is all something to be grateful for as I sip my morning coffee. What a cornucopia of delightful details starting with that fabulous table linen. I can see why it is a favorite.
We finally had a marvelous rain storm last night that lasted hours. Lots of lightning and thunder, with heavy rain and oh, how fresh and cool it all is this morning. Grateful!!!
I, too, am a fan of Spode’s Woodland series. I have some of the salad plates to mix in at times. The wildlife are favorites for me as well, and the transfer ware borders always offer that perfect finish. I know you and your Renaissance Man will enjoy celebrating at this table surrounded by your darling family. I’m grateful for your friendship, Pam! Happy Thanksgiving!

I can see why this tablecloth is one of your favorites Pam, it is beautiful and so perfect for Thanksgiving with it’s bountiful fruit! Your simple centerpiece of apples is a continuation of the pattern! The stemmed glassware is magical with the other elements, and I love the cornucopias spilling gourds and wheat. I had to smile when I read that you purchased the Spode plates and feathered placemats because of Butch’s love of wildlife and the outdoors~learning he was a biology wildlife major explains how he is able to identify so many plants during his Sunday strolls! The jeweled napkin rings are so pretty, and the memory of your dear mother is honored with using her silverware. I know you and your family will have a very blessed Thanksgiving!

When I see Italian linens, I usually buy them as they turn out to be a favorite as the material is devine! Your Thanksgiving table is beautiful! We do need to have a 365 thankful attitude as God gives us so much. I have one of the wheat candlesticks, too. They look so nice on your table. Have a great day! Clara❤️

Pam, what “love” can I give your table that hasn’t already been expressed by these lovely ladies? I share your love of Spode “Woodland” and each time I take them out, I smile and hug them to my chest. I love that they date back to 1831. I also have the pheasant feather placemats and try to incorporate them into any Autumnal setting. Your tablecloth is so lovely and the apples and cornucopias are the right touch to bring all your beautiful elements together. I also like that you used your mothers flatware…I have Michaelangelo flatware by Oneida and it resembles your silverware pattern. Thank you for sharing the view from your table…how perfect is that? And thanks to Butch for his quotes that are so inspiring and truthful. God has Blessed us with so much to be thankful for. I pray on this Election Day that He will heal our country. Jeremiah 33:6. God Bless America! Happy November 🦃🍁🐿️🦆🦆🦆

Pam, what a stunning table! Your Italian linen tablecloth is so beautiful – especially from that side view. The Spode plates are gorgeous too on the Baroque chargers and feather placemats and I can see why they are favorites. (You and Rita both remind me that I have some feather placemats too (somewhere)). The amber glasses and napkin rings are perfect, and it must be so special to use the Reed and Barton flatware that was one of the last gifts from your mother. Love the centerpiece with the bowl of apples on the antique platter, the cornucopias spilling their autumn bounty, and the antler sheds – it adds to a wonderful nature-inspired ambience. The copper candle holders are a beautiful touch too. Wishing you and your family a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving my friend!

    Pam,
I count my blessings and am so thankful that YOU, Butch, and your family are included in my blessings! As always, your post is filled with beauty and warmth that perfectly pairs with God’s Word and the nature surrounding you! The pop of autumn and amber with the cloudy days, exquisite tablecloth, the cornucopia of incredible collections, the plates, and the addition of the sheds and feathers make for the perfect setting! I’ve spent each day, since last Friday, with my parents. My dad’s surgery went well yesterday, but he will be there through Sunday. I’ve thought of your precious Daddy, your family, and this time of Thanksgiving. As life evolves and situations swirl, I have much to be thankful for. It would be easy for me to complain. Through it all, HE never leaves or forsakes us! Your posts remind me of how much beauty already surrounds us–and how we can MAKE beauty appear! You always have a way of lifting me and helping me “savor” each season. Although I’m not here often (and wish I could be!), I hold you all in my heart and prayers. It’s hard to believe we’re in November and our favorite holiday will be here soon! Thank you again for all the hard work you do to organize, create, and write! I can’t even imagine the time it must take to do all of this! I love you and am so grateful to know you! Karla and Finn

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
