““Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.””
Revelation 4:11 ESV
I had to get out early and take in another September morning as October was just ahead. I stood at the pasture’s edge and was once again, for the millionth time, overwhelmed by the Creator and His creation. No two days are ever exactly the same. Never have they been, and never will they be. As I walked away later, I thought of that Neil Diamond song, “September Morn”. I always liked that song. He sang “September Morn, we danced until the night became a brand new day”. Now we didn’t dance that long, so I was able to be up at first light as September was coming to a close!
October 6, will always be a special day. Sweet Pawpaw would’ve turned 95 tomorrow. This photo of Pam, her brother Mike, and their dad, was taken on his 91st birthday, October 6, 2021. In Pawpaw’s memory, we will have a birthday party at our house tomorrow.
Seth dropped by every week for almost 18 years to bring supper and eat with Pawpaw. A conservative estimate by my calculations would be over 800 visits. Of course, after getting married and having children, the tradition never wavered. The great grands looked forward to it each week. The last time was late February, and Pawpaw got to hold little newborn Daniel. Pawpaw loved pizza and that also became part of the weekly tradition. We will have pizza tomorrow evening, and of course cake…to be made by daughter-in-love, and the great grand girls!
Daniel is getting quite active these days at almost 8 months. He seems very happy wearing his daddy’s overalls while riding in his daddy’s Radio Flyer Wagon. He sticks his tongue out along with his smiles! We are thankful Pawpaw got to see and hold Daniel. He loved his grands and great grands!
The hydrangeas now have that showy fall look, but the vinca is determined to stay around as long as possible. Or maybe a correct statement would be as long as I water it daily!
I just keep getting out the drone and flying a little on these nice autumn days. This is looking southeast from directly above the garden. We should get one more cutting of hay from the green field below. I am surprised because it has been very dry, with 95 percent of the state now in official drought.
I decided it was time to make a final September wildflower hike behind the house. Late September, early October is prime time. Narrow leaf sunflower is everywhere, and along with goldenrod, making yellow a dominant color along trails, roadsides, and open undisturbed places.
I noted that sulphur butterflies especially favored thistle. Of the many wildflowers blooming, this seemed to be their choice.
Appalachian blazing star is so intricate and unusual and it reminds me of the purple passion flower as far as the details of the bloom. The passion flower is a vine and the blazing star grows on an upright stem or stalk. There is a lot of blazing star nearby.
Frostweed is tall and these tops can be seen above other vegetation. It mixes in well with the sunflowers. I think the butterfly is a Silver or White Spotted Skipper. I understand it is a common butterfly, but I really don’t see many of them.
A break from the wildflower trek to have a look at a very common sight around here this fall. Persimmons galore. Every persimmon tree I have seen is weighted down with fruit. A bumper crop for everything wild that loves persimmons such as raccoons, opossums, foxes, deer, black bears, skunks, squirrels, wild turkey, and other birds, to name a few! A wonderful and abundant harvest awaits!

One of several asters blooming now, the saltmarsh aster is native here and shows up in full bloom from late September until frost. It thrives in coastal environments but we have plenty of it growing here. A pretty little daisy indeed!
Helping the landscape make a statement with yellow, this is the golden aster. It mainly grows in the eastern US and across the south into Texas. We have asters in the garden that are purple and currently blooming. Asters and autumn, a great pair!

I spotted an osprey from a distance circling and fishing over these waters. I tried to get closer and did get a few photos but it was still too far away for anything of quality. I kept on the move however as I enjoy walks along the boardwalk that you see in the background. I have to walk about one mile to get to the boardwalk so I don’t carry the heavy camera with the long lens. There are times I do need that lens however! This day was one of those!
I finally made it to the boardwalk. Although the birds of prey didn’t cooperate by sticking around, this final afternoon of September was picture perfect and was worth the walk. A waxing gibbous moon did greet me!
I hope this isn’t a tough one. Do you see a poodle wearing a collar? I didn’t hear any barking from the sky but I met a man on the boardwalk who was walking his small dog shortly before I saw the clouds and the little guy barked at me (the dog not the man) a couple of times as we passed each other.
That green soybean field from a couple weeks back has taken on a “nearing harvest” appearance. I suppose it may turn a little darker brown, but I’m guessing this is getting close. I was able to get some photos last year as this particular field was being harvested. Maybe my timing will be good again this season.
They sure are fuzzy little beans. I told PJ it looks like older, mature soybeans have gray beards!
My patriotic farmers had taken a corn harvest break when I was by last week. I appreciate them in more ways than just the fact they welcome me to photograph or video them as they work. I also roam the various crops… from planting, to the growing season, and now the harvest.
The full Harvest Moon will appear tomorrow, but we are predicted to be very cloudy. Just in case that prediction is correct, I grabbed a late afternoon shot of the waxing moon while we had beautiful skies.
Happy Harvest and Happy October!

Good morning Pam and Butch, what a wonderful thing to have a little party to commemorate Pam’s father. There sure is a strong family resemblance! It is so important to keep family stories passing down through the generations. Even now there are questions I wish I could ask my parents. Yesterday we drove down a long road lined with old plantations along the Cooper River. So many questions. Luckily we were with dear friends who were a wealth of information! I thought of Butch because we hiked into the woods to look for a Huguenot marker. The ground was covered in huge green balls the size of apples. We needed Butch! Google lens identified them as Eastern black walnuts. Hope you have a blessed week.
And, Good morning to you Roxanne. We can relate to wishing we had asked many more questions. Thankful for the memories and stories we do have. The ones not told or heard are forever lost. We hope you have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
It’s a nice way to honor Pam’s dad tomorrow. The first year is always tough. Seth was a devoted grandson and was rewarded with many wonderful memories. Time is a precious gift to give to older loved ones. Life gets hectic and it’s challenging, but in the end, teaching the younger ones that traditions are important is priceless. I know Seth’s family has had to readjust, but the younger ones will carry those sweet memories with them for a lifetime along with some good life lessons. Daniel is a cutie pie! I just love that little tongue smile! It’s so nice that you saved Seth’s things as the children have enjoyed them! I saw the poodle in the clouds. Your drone shots are great! Enjoy your day. Tomorrow will be very special! Pam’s daddy would be proud. Clara❤️
Thank you Clara. One thing planned for tomorrow is story telling. Each person sharing a story (or several) or memory. As I mentioned to Roxanne, stories that go untold or unheard are forever lost. We talked about wishing we had asked a lot more questions to those we can no longer talk with. Have a great week!

So much beauty around us if we just take the time to look. The Lord is truly a wonderful creative creator!
Thank you Patti. Creation is simply amazing. Slowing down and looking is good advice. Have a pleasant week!
Butch and Pam
Good Morning Pam and Butch. Ohhhhh Pam you look just like your dad. Such beautiful memories you have of the special times. What a wonderful way to honor him for his birthday by continuing the tradition of Pizza night. Little Daniel is such a cutie and boy getting so big. They grow up too fast. Happy Sunday and have a wonderful week. Hugs. Kris
Thank you Kris. Family traditions are good and sometimes even though you can’t keep everything exactly the same, the tradition can live on. We don’t eat pizza often so we are looking forward to that too. Have a pleasant week!
Butch and Pam
Such a beautiful post in so many ways. Your birthday party tomorrow with your family is so thoughtful and such a sweet way to remember and enjoy memories together.
Your photos are brilliant, especially the red clouds…takes my breath away and the water where the Osprey was fishing is so calming. Thank you for capturing these photos!
As always, your Sunday post is very special and always looked forward to.
Thank you Sue. Hope all is well out your way. We do enjoy getting together and continuing traditions as well as creating new memories and traditions. And, we both love pizza but always watching our diet so that will be fun. Have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
I love the weekly pizza dinners – and yes, I can see the poodle. Enjoy the new week!
Thank you Leslie Anne. I was hoping the poodle was not to hard to see. We hope you have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
Another beautiful post with much to love. But what I loved most was seeing the photos of Pam’s dad, your family, and especially hearing about Seth’s commitment to bring dinner for so very many years. I’m sure it was a wonderful experience for both of them, and I’m so glad the next generation got to know him as well. Big hugs to all of you tomorrow as you celebrate this wonderful man.
Thank you Jeanie. That long term commitment left such a wonderful memory for them and provided weekly joy as well. Many stories shared through those years. A priceless experience and tradition. We wish for you a delightful week!
Butch and Pam
Sweet memories of your dear Pawpaw and wonderful photos. I love that you are going to have a family pizza dinner in honor of hsi birthday! Daniel is precious and looks big for 8 months. The boardwalk is a beautiful area for strolling around. So many pretty wildflowers!! I wish you both a great week ahead!
Thank you Jenna. We think having the pizza dinner will be good for the great grands. They miss their Pawpaw but this will be a sweet celebration for them to experience. Have a great week!
Butch and Pam
Yes, Butch I see the poodle with collar….vividly. And the boardwalk looks so interesting and fun to walk searching for wildlife. How sweet you all will be celebrating PawPaw’s birthday and how sweet of Seth to do his weekly visit. As we get older, we can only hope our loved ones don’t forget us…but if they do, we should use our memories as our treasures. Thank you for another wonderful tour of your beautiful surroundings. I look forward to them each week.
Thank you Kari. I know the kids miss Pawpaw as we all do but I think Seth will enjoy the remembrance. Those weekly visits were such a part of his life. Glad you saw the poodle. Have a blessed week!
Butch and Pam
Thanks, you two for sharing family faces and sweet memories from the past, present, and future! You two are very blessed. And we are enjoying your captures of Earth’s beautiful moments, one frame at a time.
Thank you Mary. Moments of beauty are special and sometimes I just want to take it in and not miss something. I get conflicted over whether to use a camera or just enjoy it until it passes. Have a great week!
Butch and Pam
Happy heavenly birthday to your sweet Daddy and the kids’ Pawpaw. I love that he’ll be celebrated! Daniel is a doll baby!
Thank you Rita. Little Daniel didn’t get to know Pawpaw but Pawpaw knew him. We are thankful and know memories can be passed on through traditions, stories and photos. Have a blessed week!
Butch and Pam
Sweet memories & celebration of Pawpaw, how wonderful it will be to celebrate in heaven with all those who have gone before us. 😊
I do see the Poodle in the clouds Butch! And that first photo of the sunrise in the clouds is absolutely breathtaking. Daniel is growing too! 😄
Blessings to you both, Jennifer
Thank you Jennifer. Several mentioned they saw the poodle so I guess it was a little easier than some of my imaginations. I used to sing a song that said “those who have gone before us light the way…may all who come behind us find us faithful “. Have a blessed week!
Butch and Pam
Such a lovely and loving post, Pam. It moved me. And I can’t get over the beauty of the sky in your first photo, a work of art.
Amalia
xo
Thank you Amalia. The Creator is the artist and it’s quite a blessing to have opportunities to see the displays. Have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
AWL – RIP, PawPaw. What a sweet post about him. My bday was the 4th so it is with great pleasure I am wishing him a happy birthday in heaven! Your pics of all of nature’s beauty certainly delight the senses. Thank you! Abd YES that looks EXACTLY like a poodle in the clouds! Good eye!!!
Thank you Michele. So glad you and many others saw the poodle. We did have a sweet birthday party earlier this evening. We wish you a happy week!
Butch and Pam
Such great photos Butch and the opening one of the sky is gorgeous. I’m so glad the native flowers are providing those wonderful colors to welcome fall. Daniel is adorable. So sweet that the family is having a birthday celebration for PawPaw and a wonderful tribute. I can see the poodle in the clouds. We have been sunny here today and I hope the night stays clear that I might get a glimpse of the super moon. Have a great week!
Thank you Kim. Unexpectedly the sky cleared here and we watched the super moon rise while we celebrated Pawpaw with our outdoor party. Glad you also saw the poodle. We hope you have a pleasant week!
Butch and Pam
Oh, Butch, that ending photo of the moon was gorgeous! But so was the beginning photo of the sunrise. God is good!
I enjoyed seeing all the Grands and Pam’s Dad. Happy Birthday in heaven! I am sure your pizza party was wonderful and full of memorable stories!
The asters are great pollinators. The bees love them more then the seasonal mums. 🙂
Happy October! 🍁🍂🍁
A blessed. Heavenly Birthday to Paw Paw, beloved by us all.
How precious that you continue to celebrate him with his pizza
and love gathering. Did you notice the sailboat gliding through
the clouds in the first photo? The family pics are so charming
and memorable. Sabbath peace.
Thank you Mary. I will most definitely look for the sailboat. We did have a nice evening of remembrance with pizza and stories. And, skies cleared and gave us a beautiful harvest full moon as we were celebrating outdoors. Have a blessed week!
Butch and Pam
Yes! I could see the poodle wearing the collar! Cloud formations are always so interesting! God bless you all.
Thanks again Cheryl. Glad you and others saw the poodle. Maybe it was not so hard to spot like some of mine. Blessings!
