“Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord,”
Psalm 89:5-6 ESV
It was cool last Thursday morning and a little foggy, but not a bad start for a November day. I was out well before sunrise and minding my own business when a few coyotes got frustrated with my presence and made a lot of noise before going completely silent. They will just have to get over it…we’ve lived here a lot longer than they have!
I stayed around the area until the sun was above the trees and fog. I didn’t see these small orange fruits in the dark. Persimmons were all over the place, looking like miniature pumpkins hanging from limbs. Something about the early light makes everything come to life!
As the temperature dropped during the day at the first of the week, a katydid must have sensed the change. I typically don’t expect to see one this late in the season and especially on a pumpkin. Our weather has warmed so maybe I’ll see him again!

This is my 20-20 tree. Twenty degrees and twenty mile per hour winds came through in the night and left our ginkgo quite bare. Where do so many leaves go so quickly?…
…I think I have the answer!
I made my way by the big downtown ginkgo and was pleasantly surprised to find it was turning that common brilliant yellow, and still had leaves in abundance! I thought this one might not have the stunning color this year, but I thought wrong (something I do often). The Veterans Day flags all around were nice to see also!
You might recall the bright yellow and green of this lantana shown in last week’s post? It is a tough plant, one of the best, but a single freeze takes it from a beauty in the afternoon to this the next morning!
I looked up and decided that there was a whale rib cage passing over!
We are still enjoying a lot of color. Many of you who live in colder places shared that your color was gone and trees were now bare. It is typical for maples to have their first color and first leaf drop start at the top and ends of limbs, and work its way down and in.

I thought we might take a look at a few “before and after”. The clematis actually fared better than most of the other plants. What a difference a day makes…
…twenty four little hours! There’s not much chance that the coleus will revive, even with a few warm 70’s + days. In fact, it has been removed from this summer home, and joined many others in a place called mulch!
Mandevilla looked very droopy, but not terribly bad considering how some of the other victims of the cold fared. But it was time to also join those of the mulch!
We had to stop and get a photo of this beautiful tree, and yes, it is in a cemetery. The tree has no meaning or beauty for those that lie here, only for those who visit. We were blessed with a gorgeous autumn day to drop by and place American flags beside Pawpaw’s (Pam’s Dad) foot marker, Pam’s Mom beside him. My parents and maternal grandparents graves are also here, not too far behind this old tree!
Sometimes I happen to have my camera handy when a bald eagle sails over the house. At other times the flyover turns out to be white pelicans. I wonder if I should always be wearing a camera when going outdoors? I do have it with me often and on occasion I’m glad I lugged it along!
The autumn fire sedum has lost its fire. I seem to have that same problem some days. I know how it feels!
A throwback from one year ago. Quite a view from high up in the middle of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
In the barnyard, it’s beginning to look a lot like November!
A bald cypress stands guard along the shore bidding farewell after another November visit from the sun!
Have a blessed week!

Good morning Butch and Pam, love the nature shots with the befores and afters. We weren’t quite as cold as you, but we did have those 20 mph winds that stripped a lot of our leaves. Your bald cypress tree shot with the setting sun is stunning. Happy Sunday. ♥
Thank you Mary. We have trees without leaves and a lot of big oaks still green. It’s just that time of year. Have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
Happy Sunday to you both. How wonderful that you still have such beautiful color. I’m loving that blue sky and the pines!
Thank you Jeanie. The clear blue skies of autumn are the best and offer quite a background for everything. Have a great week!

Those nature photos were a familiar scene here this week also. I snapped a photo of the gingko tree in front of our antique mall with its yellow blanket on the cement below, and my celosia bit the dust overnight too. My hydrangeas also went limp, but I’ll wait until the leaves are brittle on the branches to scoop them up. We’ve had a lot of wind too, so even though the city will vacuum leaves once a week, this past week the trucks were interrupted to have to spread salt for the snowfall we had on Monday! Love the photo of the cemetery.
Thank you Rita. We try to move leaves several times instead of letting them all pile up but in some places I like to leave them. It’s warming back up so I guess some trimming and removing will need to wait a while. Have a pleasant week.

Good Morning and happy Sunday. I love the leaf shapes of the Ginko trees and how pretty the yellow they are. The big one you captured is so gorgeous. Enjoy the new week ahead. Hugs. Kris
Thank you Kris. Ginkgoes around are so different, some still have green showing, some all yellow, and some no leaves at all. They are pretty trees for autumn color. Have a great week!
Butch and Pam
Such lovely photographs of our natural world in all its seasons. Happy Sunday, have a great week.
Thank you Carole. There is beauty around us in many forms and in all seasons. Have a great week as well!
Butch and Pam
Those pelicans seem to be too far away from the coast. I guess they know what they are doing.
Thanks John. Years back we never had white pelicans this far from the coast but have been seeing them here every year for a few years now. Have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
Beautiful nature shots. Love the sky ones and the sunset is magical. The temps did a number on everything here too but we were almost 80 yesterday! The cemetery tree is colorful as is the gingko tree. Enjoy your day. Clara❤️
Thank you Clara. It has warmed again and yesterday was gorgeous. The predictions are nice for this week with no more freezing temperatures. Just that time of year. Have a blessed week!
Butch and Pam
Stunning photos of the nature around you. Very peaceful and energizing at the same time. Nature fills my heart with healing. Thank you for always sharing these beautiful settings. Happy Sunday!
Thank you Sarah. Getting outdoors when I can is refreshing and healing. I’m blessed to be able to still get out, not everyone can. Have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
What a difference a day makes indeed. Your plants gave you so much pleasure over the summer, now they will be helping a future crop of flowers once they turn to mulch.
Thank you Karen. It’s true that another pleasurable summer has come and gone. We aren’t promised another day but hope we see another growing season. Have a pleasant week!
Butch and Pam
What wonderful photos and imagination for this week! But the photo of a bald cypress standing gaurd and bidding farewell to the November sun…be still my heart…and your handsome turn of phrase to accompany…sigh…
We’ve raked up the leaves [again] in our yard, just in time for a light rain to fall, which is nice for the new little plot of sod. Snow is being forecasted, but mostly for the higher mountains. We’re building a new gate for the fence this week and enjoying some of the last beautiful days of autumn outside. It’s definitely Dutch Oven cooking time!
Thank you for another wonderful post, wishing you a wonderful week…
Thank you Sue. We rarely get snow here but I saw where Rita mentioned snow in WV. We purchased sleds for the kids but they may grow up before they get to try them out. But then, maybe this year. We do have plenty of leaves, but like you, we are enjoying some nice days to get a few things done. Have a great week!
Butch and Pam
Good afternoon Butch and Pam! Yes, what a difference a day makes…from beautiful flowers to slimy, melting stems. All that work watering and fertilizing has been put to bed for 2025. The spectacular red sunsets are now the color in the garden. But we are up to 75 again today. I know coyotes are supposed to be afraid of humans, but weren’t you nervous!! Hoping you have a blessed week, full of new adventures.
Thank you Roxanne. I encounter coyotes at times and they, so far, are shy and very afraid of me. So, no, they don’t worry me just yet. Slimy melting stems describe the coleus perfectly. I’m kinda glad to get a break from watering etc. Upper 70’s coming this week here. Have a great week!
Butch and Pam
Thank you Butch…and Pam for the beautiful photos of the before and afters and the pelicans overhead. A sign of the times that it it will soon be “over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house we go”. For some parts of the country that means snow, colder weather with the closing of the Autumn Season. However, I thought you might like to see our four seasons here in Florida
Florida Weather:
Winter is at 6 AM.
Spring starts at 10 AM.
Summer is at 2 PM.
Fall Begins at 4:30ish.
Dress Accordingly!
Have a great & Blessed Day!
Thank you Kari. We love your Florida seasons. I thought of a song lyric that says “I’m going where the weather suits my clothes”. Some of our readers did indeed mention snow so I suppose another season is closing in soon. And Thanksgiving only 11 or 12 days out…swiftly go the days. Have a blessed week!
Butch and Pam
I know both of those songs….and especially love “swiftly fly the years, one season following another, laiden with happiness and tears”…..
I love that you two are just like me when it comes to music…I believe I was born “with a song in my heart”….and because of that I will always be “young at heart” though old in years. 🦃🦃🦃🦃🍁🍂🥹
Yes, Kari music is a big part of our life! Music brought Butch and me together. There isn’t a day that I don’t sing even if just to myself!
Let’s keep singing,
Pam
Those trees will soon show us how lovely it is to let things go. Savor the season!
Thank you Mary. Change is truly inevitable so enjoying the moment is surely wise. Have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
What a gorgeous picture of that cypress and setting sun over the lake! A fabulous ending to your Sunday Stroll!
I am sorry for the cold temperatures. That coleus! Oh my! I have seen our lantana get that way as well after a frost. But a trim here and there, and they do bounce back.
Thanks for taking us along on your Everyday Living! It’s always so beautiful.
Thank you Nancy. With a warm week this week there may have been a chance for a small lantana revival but its final demise was soon to come. I went ahead and removed it all and cleaned up the spot. Maybe I will still be around in April and be able to plant it again. Have a pleasant week!
Butch and Pam
You will be here in April! 🙏
Butch, I have been enjoying all the nature shots in your protracted fall season – scenes we typically see for only a few weeks here. It is always amazing what one windy day can do to all the leaves and one frost to all the flowers. The gingko is marvelous in it’s fall color and I love the shot of the cemetery. The sunset is gorgeous! Have a wonderful week you two!
Thank you Kim. We are having another warm week but too late for the flowers. We do still have a lot of color even though some trees are bare. But you are correct, one frost and one extremely windy day made a big difference but it was time to move on to the next thing. Have a wonderful week!
Butch and Pam
Butch, what a lovely day out walking! I pinned several photos, of course. The cloud formations do look like whale ribs, how funny! My 33-year-old daughter and I like looking for jellyfish clouds which come around in the autumn months. We used to see them quite regularly in California. When I see them now here in Texas, I will snap a photo and send it to her. Something to brighten her day.
Thank you for taking us on a nice long walk,
Happy Thanksgiving!
Barb 🙂
Thank you Barbara. I see all sorts of things in the clouds, some, I admit, require a great deal of imagination. Often an image is clearly seen but it changes so fast that there’s no chance for a photo. Have a great week!
Butch and Pam
I’m glad you keep your camera handy and then share…thanks
It’s hard to imagine how one day can make such a difference and rob the beauty from the flowers. It makes me think of the Scripture that talks about the grass withering and the flower fading – here for a season to bless and bring beauty, then gone. May the Lord bless you all today!
Thank you, Cheryl. I love that scripture, the Word of God will stand forever. Happy Thanksgiving!
