Hello dear readers. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We received much needed rain, with more expected this week. My garden will be happy!
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Colossians 3:2
It is the first Monday of the month which means Monday Morning Blooms. I am joining my friends to provide you with flower therapy!
It is hydrangea season and I am celebrating one of my favorite flowers in the Sunshine Cottage!
Lidy, Mary, and Shirley are sharing gorgeous blooms and inspiration…their links are at the bottom of this post.
Last Friday I visited my darling friend at her fabulous hydrangea farm. A few years ago we bonded over flowers and faith. It is a breath of fresh air to spend time with her. After hugs, we jumped on the golf cart to peruse her fields of hydrangeas.
A couple of years ago I took readers on a tour of the farm. A morning on the hydrangea farm has been a very popular post! Acidic soil produce these blue hydrangeas that are the most recognizable and probably the most popular hydrangea.
Our common theme for this Monday Morning Blooms are flowers in jars. I am showcasing the most popular of all hydrangeas, the “macrophylla” also known as French hydrangeas, mopheads, and big leaf hydrangeas. Southern Living says:
“French hydrangeas define the South like sweet tea and cornbread.”
I couldn’t resist cheating by placing these hydrangeas in a Portmeirion
“Botanic Garden” mug. Looking closely you can see the blue hydrangea on the mug.
The “Botanic Garden” Hydrangea Macrophylla plate joined the floral vignette!
You can see all the varying shades and colors of the French hydrangeas. The soil pH determines their color. From red to pink, purple, lavender, pale blue, and vibrant blue…all of the colorful blooms were divided into three Ball jars! Two vintage quart-sized aqua jars and a half gallon clear jar contain the abundant blooms.
An April Cornell “country rose” table square tops the round table! Its colors complemented the hydrangeas. You might notice more “Botanic Garden” plates on the shelves.
The lighting was not ideal in the cottage, it was a cloudy day with occasional sun. I had planned to shoot outdoors, but decided it might not be the best idea with rain a possibility. Georgianna Lane’s entrancing photography along with Naomi Slade’s gardening expertise produced a lovely book appropriately titled “Hydrangeas”. It is part of my ever growing gardening collection!
Another shot from the farm of a vivid pink Hydrangea Macrophylla. Alkaline soil produces this fabulous color!
“Flowers are the music of the ground from earth’s lips spoken without sound.”

Happy Monday Pam! All those blooms in Sunshine Cottage must make you so happy! The lighting can never be wrong in there because your heart brings the sunshine. Would your friend let you interview her for tips the home gardener can use? My hydrangeas got hit hard by the last late frost, my few blooms look pretty puny.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Roxanne for your sweet comments. Yes, I could do an interview with my friend. I need to try and do that!

What beauty you have shared today! I love the vibrant colors of the hydrangeas. Your setting is wonderful in your Sunshine Cottage. You may not have thought you had great lighting but you did very well. I love your AC tablecloth and the green wicker chair with the matching pillow is beautiful.
I am like Shirley, I may need to order that hydrangea book,
Adding the Portmeirion plate to your vignette and on your shelves was a delightful and creative touch.

What a beautiful vignette you created Pam! The hydrangeas are simply gorgeous, and the colors are amazing! The table in front of the window of Sunshine Cottage is such a wonderful spot for special arrangements and the blooms grouped with books and Portmeiron pieces and jars is a perfect representation of Summer in the South! Love all the quotes too…Looks like your garden will be getting plenty of water this week!

Pam, The hydrangea arrangements in jars are perfect for the Sunshine Cottage! They’re so colorful and healthy. Your PM dishes pair wonderfully with them. Your cottage mirrors the perfect southern summer. Love the AC tablecloth and throw pillow. I finally cut a couple of our hydrangeas to enjoy inside due to the forecasted rain and was pleasantly surprised by their size after the deer munched on them last year. They chose our new cannas this year. More deer fencing went up! Lol The flower farm would be a delightful place to visit. I don’t recall seeing that many flowers in one spot so it would definitely be a treat. Enjoy your week! Clara ❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much Clara. I am so glad you have hydrangeas that you can cut and enjoy the blooms inside. Oh the deer, they are so pesky. I am sorry they have chosen the cannas this year. I have declared war on the rabbits. But my declaration didn’t change a thing. ❤️
Clara says
I know how you feel! Gardening requires fortitude. Sometimes I get really frustrated but carry on anyway. Have a great afternoon. Clara❤️

Pam, this is such a beautiful post, and brings a bright ray of sunshine on this rainy morning. The hydrangeas displayed throughout sunshine cottage create such a pretty setting. Your vignette on the table with the hydrangeas, dishes and floral linens make for a swoon worthy and stunning setting. I’m finally growing hydrangeas of my own and was so excited to gather some yesterday for bouquets. Happy Monday, my dear friend! May you have a most lovely day!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Shannon. How fun that you can now cut hydrangeas from your own garden!

Loved this post, breathtaking and I will take a look at the others who joined in your party. The hydrangea farm, where is it located? The addition of the Portmeirion to your pics was lovely, I have always thought I would start collecting Portmeirion but never did. Now that I am running out of room that will be on hold.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Carolyn, the farm is in NE Alabama. Thanks so much for your sweet comments !
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Good morning, Pam. Such a lovely post. I so love hydrangeas, I will be waiting until late July to see my Nikko Blue’s, but the Annabelle’s should be blooming mid June. They have huge blooms set on them.
I love to see blooms in vintage Ball jars, especially the blue ones. They are plentiful in our town as the Hazel Atlas Factory was once booming here.
Wishing you a lovely day and week ahead. Enjoy your dear cottage and all your many blooms!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sandra, I hope you will have an abundance of blooms to enjoy! I wasn’t aware of the location of the Atlas Factory, interesting to know. Wishing you good week!

Wow, those hydrangeas are simply stellar, Pam! I have never really had good luck with store-bought hydrangeas, but had some really good fortune with my last bouquet I purchased – 7 days later and it still hasn’t withered! I always loved cutting them from the garden. Blues are my absolute favorite, but your friend’s farm make all the colors look fabulous when mixed.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks Rita. I was afraid with two very late frosts that my friend’s hydrangeas would be hurt. Thankfully, they are just gorgeous! It is nice to find pretty store-bought hydrangeas.

Happy Monday Pam! Oh those hydrangeas!! How blessed you are to be able to visit your dear friend and her hydrangea farm!! So beautiful. Your blues are stunning, God has created such beauty for us. I am currently looking out of my office window to watch a mama dove feed her two babies, and am so struck by their beauty. What a blessing to be able to notice the small, beautiful moments each day brings. Something that you are so good at, friend.
I am always encouraged being a part of our MMB with you and you certainly bring all of us so much joy.

Gorgeous post, Pam! I love blue Hydrangeas and I have some realistic looking faux ones inside, but outside we have a pink Hydrangea bush that my mother brought from her home when she moved in with us. (She prefers pink to blue.) It’s in a large pot and I just moved it today because it’s getting burnt by our hot Texas sun. Thank you for your lovely post!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much for your sweet comments, Rebecca.

Hydrangeas do have the most wonderful colors even on the same bush. I replanted mine last fall and am anxious to see whether or not they bloom this year. I have enjoyed catching up with you, especially the post telling of so many events in recent months. You continue to provide excellent posts.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Linda, hopefully your hydrangeas will bloom. They aren’t as finicky as peonies. Thank you, it is good to see you back!

Pam, how special to visit a hydrangea farm. I would love that! Hydrangeas are not easy to grow here because of our intense heat, though newer varieties are developing that gardeners are trying here. I grow oak leaf hydrangeas with success, and I’m going to try some others this year. Wish me luck.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sarah, I do hope you can grow hydrangeas. They do love water. Deer have eaten a few of mine through the years.
Happy Thursday!
French Ethereal says
Pam, I can’t begin to tell you enough how much I miss coming over to visit but now that I have the time (school vacation), I’ll be over more often. 🙂 And what a lovely day to come visit ~ Hydrangea day! It should be one of those unofficial holidays, don’t you think? I bought four different hydrangea plants this year. The white panicle hydrangea is just coming into bloom. The three mopheads and one I’ve had for a couple of years in various pots (another mophead) are all doing well but I do need to fertilize.
A breath of morning fresh air! Thanks for a lovely visit. <3 I will have to check out your friend’s massive hydrangea garden… It would be heavenly… And I will stop over and visit Lidy, Shirley and the other ladies on the flower tour, too. <3
Big hugs,
Barb 🙂
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Barb, you are so sweet! I hope your hydrangeas give you many wonderful blooms. They are so easy to cut and arrange for a beautiful floral display. Wishing you a lovely week!
