Our garden is buzzing with our chosen theme…BEES!
Bees are here because of the flowers. Flowers are here because of the bees.
Pardon me for sounding like a broken record, but we continue to have so much rain. I know many of you wish I could send some of it your way. You can imagine my excitement when we had a day last week that was sunny! I knew it might be my only chance to set a table in the garden. After all, the garden is the perfect place to celebrate our pollinator friends, the bees!

While thinking on a vessel for my flowers, I spotted a long forgotten pitcher on the bottom shelf of my bookcase. It was just the right color for sunflowers, zinnias, and immature vanilla strawberry blooms all cut from my garden. This happy arrangement was quite easy, I simply filled the pitcher with every bloom I had cut without overthinking the process!
Bees love sunflowers!! They are constantly buzzing around RM’s raised bed planted with three varieties. I am not the only one that loves this bi-color variety!
A striped seersucker rectangular tablecloth was folded in half to fit the round table. Rattan chargers hold my “go to” American Atelier dinner plates. A new purchase are the cute “ Bee” salad/dessert plates.

This adorable honey pot was a “just because” gift from my Honey!
A metal bee buzzed in and landed on the table. The amber stemware’s color reminds me of the color of honey.
Bees love zinnias and they are always present when I go to cut blooms. Why are bees so important? They are important for pollination and are constant visitors to our garden. Bees perform the critical act of pollination. As a bee enters a flower to feed on nectar and gather pollen, some of the pollen sticks to the bee’s body. When the bee flies on, it deposits some of that pollen on the next flower it visits, allowing fertilization. Bees pollinate a staggering eighty percent of all flowering plants, including approximately seventy five percent of the fruits, nuts, and vegetables grown in the U.S.!
Using a new recipe, I baked a honey tea loaf that was moist and delicious. Its taste and texture is very similar to pound cake. It is Renaissance Man approved and was served to dinner guests with strawberries and whipped cream!

It didn’t take long observing the bees buzzing over the zinnias to discover the lemon lime color is much preferred. Bees feed exclusively on sugary nectar and protein-rich pollen from flowering plants. There are over 20,000 bee species worldwide, including the honey bee. Wild bee species live on every continent except Antarctica.

The bees loved our glads when they were in bloom! Pollinators, notably native bees, are critical to the survival of North America’s native plants, other wildlife, and people alike. Both domesticated honey bees and many native bees are in decline. In fact, some species such as the once common rusty patched bumble bee, are listed endangered in the U.S. Friends, our gardens are so important, regardless of size!

Bee-utiful Pam! I’m so glad you had a break in the rain and some welcome sunshine to photograph your table! I love that you captured some many bees buzzing about your blooms. Your zinnias and sunflowers from your garden are stunning along with your pretty pitcher of blooms. I’ll have to try planting zinnias in some raised beds next year to prevent the bunnies from feasting on the seedlings. Pam, what a happy and pretty table! I love seersucker, it is so cheerful and speaks of summer (I’m down in Charleston, and all the men at church had on their seersucker suits!). Your bee photography is just incredible. We had hives for awhile until John started having worsening reactions to stings. A kind neighbor moved our hives to his farm and brings us honey every summer. Bee Happy this week!!

Pam, I couldn’t buzz in fast enough when your alert popped up. My bee loving heart is taking in all the details and loving it. Susan Winget’s art has always been a favorite for me, especially her bee pieces. Glad you had a little sunshine to dine in the garden. It is rainy off and on here in Texas as well. Thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon ahead of a mild cold front. It’s July in Texas, so the words “cold front” sound wonderful! 😂😂

That seersucker is just perfect for the table settings, and I agree with your describing the cute salad bee plates, the honey colored- stems, and I most certainly will concur with RM if he approves of the honey tea loaf. It looks yummy! His gift of the honey pot was so thoughtful. I finally purged two of my four honey pots after my May tablescape by placing them in my booth, and was happy to see others bought them to love them too. I can see the outline of your Sunshine Cottage garden flower bed, and honestly can’t wait to see it planted! Thank you for your MMB, I love them.

Needless to sat an hour of my purging one of the file cabinets was stolen to set back and indulge these tired muscles while
perusing yours and the other tributes to the remarkable, essential bee. Mother and Brother collected Napoleonic antiques and the bee theme was evident throughout the decor. You selected the perfect golden honey colors for your flowers and tablescape, Pam. You ladies are so talented and never seem to run out of fresh and creative ideas.

I absolutely LOVE your bee theme that you and your friends have going in this post. Those Susan Winget plates are adorable…in fact, I think I might be coveting. 😉 The sunflowers that accent your floral design are a perfect companion to the zinnia and hydrangea blossoms. Sadly, in my garden, the resident rabbits in my yard got the munchies and snuck up under the bunny fence and chomped down all but one of my sunflowers in one of two raised beds. Grrr.
I love your observation about the lemon-lime zinnias being a bee-magnet. I will have to try to find those to plant in my garden next year. I love everything about them.
