Our Thanksgiving Table

November 15, 2021~ Autumn, Everyday Living, Faith, Monday Morning Blooms, Thanksgiving

Hello sweet friends. It is the third Monday of the month which means Morning Blooms with my lovely friends, Lidy, Mary, and Shirley! How can it possibly be the third Monday of November?

‭”Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭107:1‬

It is our Thanksgiving edition of Monday Morning Blooms. I invite you to pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable at our table. The conversation will be lively, the stories will be heart-warming, and the food will be lovingly prepared. Lingering is always welcomed!

Be sure to read to the end of this post to discover my winner of the stunning magnolia wreath!

Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday because it is about gathering around our table laden with abundant food, and joining hands with family as we give thanks to our Heavenly Father for His gracious gifts and blessings.

You will find links for my talented friends at the end of this post.

Flowers were in short supply at the grocery store and not very fresh. I could only find alstroemeria and a bunch of assorted mums that were barely hanging on. Thankfully, my autumn fire sedum had dried into a lovely coppery red color and I had plenty of blush nandina. Using my favorite soup tureen, chicken wire was needed to hold the heavy stems of sedum. You might notice a couple of Fuyu persimmons that were added for their pretty pumpkin color.

So, what to do if there is a limited supply of flowers or time to make an arrangement??? Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday for an edible centerpiece of fruit or vegetables. It is stress free and easy to place fruit in a pretty bowl or vegetables on a wood tray. After Thanksgiving you can enjoy a healthy fruit salad or roasted vegetables!

I placed the tureen on an antique oval tray with acorn squash and a few small gourds! The arrangement is low enough not to interfere with eye to eye conversation.

Our traditional Thanksgiving menu rarely changes. I personally can do without the turkey, just give me the side dishes! Cornbread dressing, Butch’s famous rosemary mashed potatoes, 4-cheese baked macaroni, and sweet potato casserole are my favorites. There will be turkey or ham plus more sides and the all important desserts!

Wicker chargers provide warm texture for American Atelier dinner plates and Royal Stafford Turkey salad plates. Each Majolica leaf plate holds an Envy apple, fresh cedar, and brilliant gold gingko leaves. Have you ever eaten an Envy apple? Neither had I! I must say I love the balanced sweetness and perfect crunch. Their slices naturally stay white longer making them ideal for a cheese tray or packing in lunches.

Amber stemware, vintage silver-plate flatware, and faux cedar placemats round out each place setting! Wood slice napkin rings hold leaf napkins.

A Department 56 pumpkin, one of a trio purchased many years ago, waltzed in from the Sunshine Cottage!

Every Thanksgiving table needs a turkey for eating or serving!

If you missed the Thanksgiving Tablescape Blog Hop, you can see my table here.

A Fitz and Floyd pheasant pitcher has graced many autumn and Thanksgiving tables. Years ago when I regularly shopped the Atlanta Gift Mart, I remember spending too much time admiring the Fitz and Floyd displayed in their lovely space. Not only did I spend too much time, but possibly too much money!

I decided not to use a tablecloth…I sometimes love to see the warmth of the wood. An autumn wind brought a sprinkling of gingko leaves to the embroidered table runner!

Queen EM and Princess EK caught sight of the apples. Perhaps a couple might be missing!

“Thanksgiving was never meant to be shut up in a single day.”
-Robert Caspar Lintner

Pam, What a beautiful centerpiece you created from your foliage, fruit and gourds for your Thanksgiving table. I agree and love a centerpiece that is edible, affordable and easy to assemble too! I love the warmth of the wood from your table shining through and the addition of the gold from your gingko leaves that the autumn winds blew in, 🙂 the texture of the sedum, cedar and pretty pop of color from your persimmons! It’s all about the sides for me for Thanksgiving too. 🙂 As always it’s a treat to join you for some flower therapy on these Mondays. Wishing you and your family a most wonderful Thanksgiving week ahead. ♥

Pam…your Thanksgiving table is magnificent!….I envy how you can gather the most beautiful things from your garden to create a most gorgeous centerpiece…🍁 I so love the autumn fire sedum and the pairing of the persimmons is perfection. You have displayed that you do not need an array of flowers to create the most stunning arrangement…especially creating that mood of us counting our blessings for nature’s bounty. OK…will Butch share his Rosemary Mashed Potatoes?…and the Three Cheese Macaroni casserole sounds amazing too! I can just imagine your beautiful family gathered around your table enjoying the wonderful food and gorgeous setting that you created for them…and I must say…the placement of the gingko leaves on your majolica plate is perfection!! Congrats to your winner, Kari M. Always, so wonderful to share Monday Morning Blooms with you!!! Happy Thanksgiving Pam! 🍁🍗

Pam, your Thanksgiving table is gorgeous! Your arrangement turned out just beautiful. I often think that the items we gather from our own yard turn out just as pretty as if we went to the store and purchased flowers. I love the added touch of persimmons. Their color is perfect for the season. They grow wild in one of my dad and mom’s pastures. Each year we gather a few and cut them open to predict the winter weather. Your menu sounds most scrumptious! I’m like you about the sides. I think they are the best part! I hope you and your sweet family have a very Happy Thanksgiving, my dear friend!

Your centerpiece looks fabulous, I love how you combined so many colors and textures, and the dried autumn fire sedum especially … the place settings stacked on the rattan chargers and green mats and topped with a leaf plate holding an apple are so inviting! Love your F & F pitcher and green ceramic pumpkin and the gingko leaves scattered about. I agree, skip the turkey and bring on the Thanksgiving sides! Acorn squash is such a lovely complement too. And then little gingko leaves! You and I have our gingko trees in common, and they often end up on our fall table settings too, they have such a beautiful color and shape. Like Shirley, I would love Butch’s famous mashed potato recipe! I wish you and your precious family a wonderful Thanksgiving, friend. In Spain there is no tradition, but since people are ruling very far from God and the traditional customs that were always believing in Spain … not now, everything is absolutely atheistic.
I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving, in the company of your beautiful grandchildren. Asking God that rulers like the ones we are suffering never come to your society.

The menu sounds wonderful and I have to agree with you that I could by-pass the turkey (but I love the way the house smells as it is roasting while baking) so I make turkey and dressing but eat more dressing and maybe a couple bites of turkey. LOL The side dishes are my favorite as I sample a lot while cooking. I think that is the cook’s prerogative, don’t you? Thank you so much for the magnolia wreath! I can’t wait to hang it on our door and enjoy all the wonderful thoughts and best wishes from you and everyone. Happy Thanksgiving my sweet friend.

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
