Anxiously Awaiting Autumn’s Arrival

September 6, 2022~ Autumn, Blog hop, Fall, Gardening, Tablescapes

Hello sweet friends. I am joining a group of table stylists for a Welcome Fall Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my lovely friend, Rita at Panoply. We are sharing ideas and tabletop inspiration for your fall gatherings. With thoughts of cool crisp air, leaves of flaming color, pumpkin spice everything, and snuggling up to a cozy fire…I am anxiously awaiting autumn’s arrival. After all, it is my favorite season!

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭

Autumn is my favorite time to set a table in the garden!

“It was a beautiful bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it.”
~Diana Gabaldon

I had this really bright (?) idea to incorporate a log as a container for flowers. My Renaissance Man looked rather skeptical when I asked him if he could make that happen. As you can see, he did!

You will find the links for all the participants at the bottom of this post.

An autumnal plaid throw was used as a casual tablecloth. Burlap placemats, distressed wooden chargers, majolica dinner plates, and octagonal Spode “woodlands” salad plates complete the stack.

A  pecan log (calorie-free) was hollowed out and wet foam was placed inside to support and hydrate the flowers.

Completing each place setting are copper flatware, favorite fall stemware, and amber-colored napkin rings with plaid napkins! You might notice that I mixed two plaids…tablecloth and napkins!

A neat thing about the pecan log is its origin. It is from a large limb of a tree down on the lower 40 that was easily over 75 years old. The tree was dying and sadly had to be taken down. So, to say the log was “homemade” is true in more ways than one!

The four plates represent four American birds…(left to right) wood duck, quail, pheasant, and mallard.

The table is nestled next to the adagio maiden grasses that provide a textural background

Sunflowers from yesterday’s Monday Morning Blooms were added to flowers and greenery that I cut from the garden… including zinnias, lantana, nandina, rosemary, variegated Liriope blooms, broccoli, and a turkey tail feather!

My RM has been expanding the garden. He has extended the depth and width, added new fencing, and built an arbor for the side entrance. He has completed the majority of his to-do-list of gardening chores since his retirement!

Removing the salad plates allowed the majolica to stand out against the rustic brown palette!

“Autumn is the season to find contentment at home by paying attention to what we already have.”
~Unknown

Pam, What a creative way to reuse your tree, as a log centerpiece for flowers! Love your warm plaid throw for a cozy foundation for your table. Your Spode Woodland birds are perfect for your fall table and alfresco setting with their pretty hexagonal shape. Your dish layers are so pretty framed by the burlap placemats. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table, Happy Tuesday. ♥

RM created your visit perfectly, Pam! Your outdoor tablescape awaiting autumn certainly makes me anxious to want to be there, outside, enjoying the beauty of your garden and all the table details. Your love for the season is infectious! Those Spode plates are classic beauties, as are the majolica. I adore mixing patterns, and the two plaids are so complementary of each other. The burlap layered on top is a nice rustic touch. Your stemware is one of my favorites of yours as well! Beautiful table, beautiful view. Thank you for bringing your talent (and RM’s!) To this blog hop!

Brilliant idea Pam to use a log with a story to tell as your centerpiece. One thing many don’t realize is that one only gets busier when one retires, as there are always so many projects and honey-do’s on a list or in the backs of our minds. I love your table with the new garden area in the background. Yay RM! Your plate stack is perfect, as is the mixing of the plaids. Did I tell you I finally planted my zinnia seeds and they are coming up fast…remember our growing season is year ’round herein SW Florida so should have flowers soon. Happy Autumn and Blessings Always

The log cum centerpiece container is sheer genius and lucky you to have RM to bring your splendid ideas to fruition. I love red tartan for Christmas and now have slated autumnal hued plaid for the Fall base table layering…You do inspire. The longshot of the table in the garden with a gimpse of the new fence is magazine-worthy. Love the way Butch sculpts the grass around the stepping slates.

That is so wonderful that your husband was able to accommodate you! I bet you will use that again and again for different seasonal centerpieces! One of the reasons i love this time of year is the opportunity to use seasonal throws as tablecloths, and yours makes a lovely one! You are so brave and did such a lovely job mixing your two plaids! Wow – and what a great job RM did of hollowing it out for those beautiful flowers. It lends a rustic look to the table, especially with the plaid throw, the burlap placemats, and the distressed chargers. And then there are the lovely majolica plates and those gorgeous Spode plates, and your beautiful goblets complete the picture. Really, really lovely! More beautiful stemware! Another sign to look for some tomorrow! Fall is my favorite season, too. Today, it is cooler here in the mountains, and as one of my favorite Clint Black songs says, “You can surely feel a change in the air!” I was just sitting here thinking how many autumns God has allowed me to see, and how I praise Him for sparing me to see another one. He has been so merciful to me and far better to me than I will ever deserve. How I praise Him this morning!

Pam, your anxiously waiting autumn table is so pretty. How creative to use the old log as a vase. Such a beautifully unexpected look. Love the plaid throw as a table covering. The burlap placemats look fabulous against those warm colors of your throw. The plates are wonderful, the shape is so different. A beautiful garden backdrop for your lovely autumn table. Always a pleasure to join you on these fun tablescape blog hops. Have a happy week ahead.

Love LOVE your majolica plates! They’re perfect for a garden table. Love the use of amber in the glassware and napkin rings, a perfect transition from the yellows and topaz of summer. The pièce de résistance of course is the intriguing wood base for your centerpiece of charming flowers! I’ve not seen the octagonal form of Spode’s Woodland pattern before — it’s a casual change of pace from the usual round plates. With today’s cooler weather autumn might just be around the corner!

Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlan Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlands in memory of my beautiful Mother who was a lovely example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Mother had the gift of hospitality and shared it with everyone. Karl Rosenfield peonies from my garden fill a treasured keepsake pitcher handed down from my grandmother! A beautiful floral April Cornell ‘Lillianna’ tablecloth and Famille Rose salad plates elevate the status of the old picnic table next to our woodlands. I have collected bejeweled enamel trinket boxes for many years and shared a few on the table for whimsy and fun. For memories of my Mother, click the link in my profile.

With glorious weather, the table next to our woodl With glorious weather, the table next to our woodlands was perfect for teatime! It is Tea on Tuesdays with blogging friends Mary and Kitty. The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change! Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate!
