A Romantic Dinner In The Sunshine Cottage

February 6, 2023~ Food & Entertaining, Monday Morning Blooms, Sunshine Cottage, Tablescapes, Valentines Day

Happy Monday, sweet friends. I am always so happy to see you here.

“We love because he first loved us.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ ‭

The Sunshine Cottage is cozy and warm…perfect for a romantic dinner with my Renaissance Man!

Last Friday was our first day of sunshine in what has seemed like weeks. During the winter months, the sun casts beautiful shadows into the cottage. I enjoy attempting to capture the beauty of the sunlight!

Our common theme for this edition of Monday Morning Blooms is Valentine’s. As you can see, the cottage table is dressed for the special occasion!

You will find the links for Lidy’s and Mary’s gorgeous Valentine’s inspiration at the bottom of this post!

The Staffordshire “Charlotte” English pitcher is filled with roses, carnations, alstroemeria, and a few twigs of spirea! I was so happy to find red, pink and white flowers at the grocery store. I love the traditional colors of Valentine’s! This arrangement required little fuss, now that is always a win!

These cute heart-shaped “Valentine Love” plates are by 222 Fifth and they purposely jumped into my cart at TJ Maxx a few years ago!

We all know that chocolate and flowers are Valentine’s must haves!

The gold antler napkin rings are the one item on the table that could be classified masculine! The exquisite linen “Royal” embroidered napkins are by Arte Italica/Crown Linen Designs!

“And suddenly all the love songs were about you.”
~Unknown

Dinner and dessert plates are Marc Jacobs “David Scarlet” by Waterford. This discontinued pattern has been impossible to find, even Replacements, Ltd. doesn’t have many pieces. I have two complete settings which are perfect for the two of us!

If you have seen my Valentine’s post in the past, you know that I have kept our cards for many years. I bring them out each year and we read them and sometimes there are a few tears!

For more Valentine’s inspiration click here and here.

I love displaying the cards and using them as part of our Valentine decor!

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful…
‭‭

…it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth…

…. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things…

‭‭ …Love never ends” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭4-8‬a

My granddaughters had requested a tea party. Since the table was already set with chocolates, hearts, flowers and their favorite colors, I had the girls join me for tea in the Sunshine Cottage. Both girls were very excited to have their treats served on the heart-shaped “love” plates. EM said, “Oh PJ, are we eating on the heart plates?”

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭13‬ ‭

I believe God is continuing to write our love story, and if He allows…Butch and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, February 23!

Be sure to visit Lidy and Mary for beautiful Valentine table settings and flowers!

Pam, Your Sunshine Cottage has a lovely Valentine’s tablescape. I know the girls enjoyed the heart shaped plates. They are a favorite! The striped plates are gorgeous. I know you and Butch are looking forward to celebrating 50 years together. It passes much more quickly than you expect! We’re a few years behind you as we’re on 44 later this year. I love the idea of revisiting the various Valentine’s cards. I have ours, but they’re mixed in with all the other holiday cards. I really hope to dig them out eventually and make stacks for the various holiday cards. They do evoke such precious memories! The flowers and pitcher make such a pretty centerpiece. The linens are stunning. Happy Monday! Clara❤️

The setting and flowers are beautiful- but the testimony to your love story is the best part. Mr.FGH and I are celebrating our 50th anniversary next year {we married in kindergarten : ) } and I’m planning something special. So beautifully done Pam! One of my favorite Valentine tablescapes ever! I love how the shadows are cast across the table. I love the quote “And suddenly all the songs were about you.” That says so much. I also love how you incorporated the gold antler napkin rings for a masculine touch. Can I ask where you got those? And last but certainly not least I so love that you had a tea party with your granddaughters in the Sunshine Cottage and enjoyed the tablescape more than once. How precious!

The idea of saving all your cards was genius. I wish I had done that. I have some, but certainly not all. Actually we didn’t always give each other cards. I do have some hand written notes that Monnie gave me. Cherished for the words written in his hand.

God’s Hand passed across the page and your lives together were ever destined to be. I love your Valentine celebration table with all the flowered beauty and love cards… and how thrilled the girls must have been to find they could celebrate on those lovely heart plates…so special. “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
