A September Tea On The Cottage Porch

September 26, 2023~ Autumn, Fall, Tea On Tuesdays

Happy Tuesday, sweet friends. Autumn officially arrived on Saturday and this autumn-loving girl couldn’t be more excited!

“Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain! Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119‬:‭36‬-‭37‬ ‭

Our mornings have been delightfully cooler, 53 degrees on Sunday morning. The pleasant mornings are ideal for tea on the Sunshine Cottage porch!

As you may have noticed, this isn’t the third Tuesday, but the fourth Tuesday of the month. My recent travels required a change of schedule and Mary was more than happy to accommodate me.

Mary and I welcome Jennifer from Celebrating Everyday Life back to Tea on Tuesdays. She is a talented table stylist and hostess! You will find Mary’s and Jennifer’s links for gorgeous tea tables at the bottom of this post.

A vintage Fitz and Floyd pheasant teapot stands guard over the table keeping away unwanted guests such as other birds and squirrels.

Since this was a morning tea, waffles were a nice change in place of my normal granola bar. Blueberry orange marmalade was a delicious spread for the waffles. The toast rack, a TJ Maxx find from last year, is outlined in the perfect fall color!

I chose a warm color palette that depicts my favorite season!

A petite arrangement of Autumn Fire sedum, yellow-gold zinnias, and fragrant sage all cut from the cottage garden filled a small Italian pitcher. The simple arrangement came together quickly.

Our sedum was relocated in early spring. I was concerned it might not like its new home, but it appears to be quite happy!

On our recent trip to Budapest we were introduced to Chez Dodo, Artisan Macarons and Cafe. I just happen to love macarons. To be honest, I have never met a dessert that I didn’t like. An average of twenty different flavors can be found on the counter. The highest quality of ingredients are used to guarantee a superior gourmet experience. Each flavor bears a French first name to express its personality. I had a hard time choosing six different ones because they all looked delicious. RM took photos so I could remember their names and flavors. Sophie lemon-lemon curd, Esme pistachio-raspberry, Joie vanilla-black currant-pistachio-marshmallow, Delice vanilla-salted almond, Blanche almond-coconut, and ‘Marie’ raspberry-mint. The macarons are made on the spot – in the shopwindow – guests are invited to watch the laborious process of the creation. The macarons did not travel well, even though they were wrapped and beautifully boxed. I had them packed carefully in my carry-on. I think it was the change of pressure in the cabin. I was disappointed they didn’t look as beautiful (some were cracked) however, it did not affect the flavor. Shh…don’t tell anyone but I ate all six of them!

My tea of choice was a cozy blend of Cinnamon Orange for autumn. The aromatic medley of warm cinnamon, sweet orange, and spicy clove mingles perfectly within a rich, black tea base.

You might have noticed a stack of pumpkins to the left of the table, fall decorating is in full swing!

The rosemary butter cookies are high on my favorites list. I purchase them at my favorite local gift shop and they are ideal with a cup of tea or coffee. Not only are they delicious, but only twenty-five calories each.

“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.”
~Nathaniel Hawthorne

‘Dahlia days’ tablecloth by April Cornell is a beautiful floral pattern and speaks of the loveliness of the season!

A velvet pumpkin, vintage napkins, American Atelier ‘baroque’ salad plates, cups/saucers, and Olfaire pottery leaf plates complete the table setting.

Now it is time to visit my talented friends Mary and Jennifer!

Good Morning Pam, What a delicious and beautiful way to start the morning, with tea by The Sunshine Cottage and waffles! Love your toast rack pulled into service for your waffles with blueberry orange marmalade. Your ‘Dahlia Days’ AC tablecloth provides a beautiful foundation for tea with your pitcher of sedum, zinnias and sage. I have long admired your Fitz & Floyd pheasant teapot, it’s a beauty… I had to chuckle over ‘standing guard unwanted guests’. We have more squirrels per square foot than should be allowed, they would definitely help themselves to a waffle or macaron. Speaking of macarons, what delicious sounding flavors and samples from your trip! I’d love to try a Sophie lemon-lemon curd or Delice vanilla-salted almond. As always, it’s a treat to join you for tea. Happy Tuesday. 🍂🍁☕🧡

Good morning Pam! What a delightful and beautiful tablescape! I can definitely imagine sitting outside Sunshine Cottage wrapped in a cozy shawl and sipping some of that steaming tea. Your beautiful teapot on the rustic stand sets the perfect note. Yesterday was a bit too warm here but our weather gurus are making cooler predictions. My sister gave me an Indian weather stick and it always is 100% accurate, Butch should have one…so fun!

Good morning Pam. The Fitz and Floyd teapot is a treasure. The AC cloth is a beautiful foundation for the special table you have put together. Your sedum is beautiful and looks perfect on the table. The verse from Psalms really caught my attention. It spoke to me this morning. I also loved the quote. The weather here has been divine and Bob and I have been porch sitting taking in this wonderful autumn weather. Staying inside is not an option right now. I love everything about this post and look forward to hearing more about your trip.

Pam, Jennifer, and Mary—I just love tea time! Pam, it’s so hard to choose a “favorite” of yours. You make every post so beautiful. You bring so much goodness to our world. I absolutely love autumn too. I love the leaf plates, the arrangement (the smell of sage mixed with the beautiful flowers), and the toast caddy is adorable (the waffles look amazing in that!). The macarons; I’ve never had one! But I will try one and think of you (and there’s no shame in eating them all). I love ANYTHING raspberry and the names of them were quite adorable! I giggled too over “standing guard over unwanted guests). It’s so comforting to visit you, the cottage, all the beauty, and the warmth that flows from your heart as the cool breezes enter to usher a new season. The tablescapes are amazing and HOPEFUL! It brings me joy and peace! I love you so much, Pam. My busy schedule begins this afternoon. Know I’m carrying you in my heart! Thank you for sharing. I know the work put in to creating this beauty! It pays off and we are blessed because of it! 💛🍂🙏💕

How precious, Pam. Thank you so much. I will do just that! Unfortunately, due to my fracture in my sacrum (I may not have told you~it happened in March or April and it just won’t heal, but I do walk each day). I had Telehealth with the nurse and travel coordinator yesterday. I will leave tomorrow and Friday, the “tribe” will take out from AR. I bet I’ll get to walk a bit on a trail, gently, and then just enjoy scenery! Oh, Pam, I pray for that energy. I go to give blood today and see my oncologist. The nurse from Maryland told me they would boost my blood once I arrive there (I have to go 5 days early). I’m praying for all moving parts to work together~which I know God can do! I love your line, “Faith and grace will carry you through”. I love you so much, Pam.❤️

Delightful tea table on your Sunshine Cottage porch. Wow, 53 degrees is much cooler than here. The lowest we have had is 60.
I love all your selections of dishes, linens, flowers, and accessories. Your sedum is hardy to be moved in the spring and flourishing through a very hot summer.
Your photos are always lovely! I also enjoy your quotes and scripture. I relate to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s quote as I am sitting on the porch typing this comment. It is too pleasant to stay inside!
Your macarons sound and look delicious. I could not tell they suffered from the trip home.

The teatime in cooler morning temps is a picture perfect fall setting. I love the Autumn Fire sedum, maybe better than Autumn Joy I used to have, for the richer red color. I have yet to plant a variety of sedum in my garden, but want to, maybe next spring. Let the fall decorating commence!

Sorry the macaroons didn’t travel well but hopefully that didn’t affect the taste too much. The leaf plates are so cute. The table looks so inviting as does your porch. I’ve decorated our front porch with faux pumpkins as it’s still pretty warm here and I can manage those better than the heavier real ones (although the real ones are my favorite). Plus, the animals will leave the faux ones alone except for an occasional squirrel that loves the taste of Styrofoam! 😂 I bought a couple of hammered copper pumpkins for the porch from HomeGoods a few years ago and they have held up really well. I really like your real ones though as they are my true preference. Loved this post! Clara❤️

With glorious weather, the table next to our woodl With glorious weather, the table next to our woodlands was perfect for teatime! It is Tea on Tuesdays with blogging friends Mary and Kitty. The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change! Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
