Welcome sweet friends. We are finally experiencing autumn weather in our Appalachian Foothills! Daytime highs in the 70’s and nights in the 40’s!
“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!”
Romans 11:33 (ESV)
Many of you will remember our resident scarecrow that came to live at our house three years ago. Our granddaughters named her Charlotte Daisy. Last year more scarecrows were added. After a long and hot summer, they were thrilled to finally escape the heat and stuffiness of Da’s workshop.
It is the October edition of Tea on Tuesdays and I am welcoming my special guests, Lidy from French Garden House, and Sarah from Hyacinths For the Soul. Thank you ladies for joining me! You will find their links at the bottom of this post.
Charlotte Daisy is excited to welcome all of you to her 3rd Annual Tea Party with her scarecrow friends and PJ’s and Da’s four grandchildren. You all are her special guests as well! Take it away, Charlotte Daisy!
PJ, the grandchildren’s grandmother, has been very accommodating to allow me to use her lovely Blue Sky Clayworks pumpkin teapot with its maple leaves and acorns. I once again chose to use a warm and cozy throw as the tablecloth.
Now what dishware do I choose? PJ has way too many dishes and I was overwhelmed with the choices. Granddaughters EM and EK suggested these sweet mothers and their babies plates…deer, fox, raccoon, and owl! I agreed that they would be perfect.
So the next big decision is what tea do I serve my guests? After perusing PJ’s pantry for several minutes, I discovered a tea that said Paris! I have never been to Paris, only in my scarecrow dreams. PJ has been a few times and she shared how beautiful and romantic the City of Lights was on her visits. I thought my scarecrow guests might suspect that before I landed in a stuffy workshop, I must have been a world traveler. The Paris tea was an excellent choice for four of my guests. Can you believe that the remaining guests wanted chocolate milk and apple juice?! It is hard to convince scarecrows to try anything new. They are stuck in their old scarecrow ways.
We 3 girls love PJ’s glider. It is very special because it belonged to her beloved Mother. In case you don’t remember, I am the one in the middle and I am now 13 years old. On my left is darling Zinnia who turned 3 recently and talks constantly. Cornelia is now 8 and growing like a corn stalk. PJ’s granddaughters gave us names and it made us all feel important, knowing they loved us enough to name us. I know we now have a permanent home instead of sitting on a shelf at Hobby Lobby where shoppers pick us up and then just shove us back down on the shelf. That can hurt a scarecrow’s feelings!
Ten year old Azalea is always smiling. She is a kind scarecrow, not grouchy like some I know. Azalea is a helper and volunteered to watch over the popcorn and candy corn mix to make sure that no naughty scarecrow would grab and run off with it. PJ loves candy corn, but she has declared no sweets for herself! PJ loves sweets, so why is she not sneaking the grands’ candy corn like she would normally do? This is an autumnal mystery. What would it hurt to have a few sweet treats on special occasions?
Baby Sally is a precocious 2 year old. She climbed up on the table and sat herself down on a stack of PJ’s majolica leaf plates. Sally grabbed a sweet treat before her meal. That is not allowed at one of my parties! PJ is trying to help me teach my scarecrow friends some table manners, but they are straw-headed!
Charlie is a rambunctious five year old just like WL and they both love tractors. The grands’ Daddy was the proud owner of this little John Deere tractor when he was the same age. His Nanny and Pawpaw surprised him for his birthday. Just like last year, Charlie drove around the neighboring farms and picked up some scarecrow friends for the tea party! I was getting anxious, what if there was not enough food?!
At last year’s party the peanut butter and honey bites were a very big hit with me and my scarecrow friends, so Da made them again! Not only do we scarecrows love them, but the grands also enjoy them! PJ says Da eats all the trimmings when making these, claiming that he doesn’t want to see anything wasted. We scarecrows aren’t sure that is the motive!
I noticed this cute little 3 tier stand in the Sunshine Cottage. PJ said she found it at TJ Maxx and thought it would be fun to use as a cupcake stand, even though it is a jewelry stand. PJ offered me the use of it for my Reese’s Oreo bites made with milk chocolate and white crème peanut butter cups with Oreo cookie crumbs. For an embellishment I added a Mellowcreme pumpkin on top. All of my scarecrow guests and the grandchildren loved this sweet bite of deliciousness!
Excuse me, while I rest a bit. Tea parties tend to make my scarecrow body exhausted! My friends and visitors are young and energetic, but I do believe my arthritis is flaring up with these cooler autumn mornings!
I need another cup of the delicious Paris tea to rejuvenate me!
Oh no, a crow is taking popcorn from baby Sally! We are designed to scare away crows, that is why we are called scarecrows! Have modern crows become bold, aggressive, and daring? Maybe we have lost our scary-ness and need to tone down these frilly clothes. What is this world coming to?!
I was tickled that PJ provided mini cupcakes for my teatime. I don’t have any baking skills, and can create a mess just trying! PJ doesn’t like messes being made in her kitchen, a well known fact around these parts!
Da suggested that I cut a few flowers from the garden…zinnias and chaste tree blooms! PJ offered this cute jar to hold the blooms!
Da allowed me to use his quote and I think it is perfect for my tea party.
“Imagination is immensely powerful, as it turns the ordinary into the extraordinary, little ones into kings and queens, and makes the old young again!”
~ Butch Richardson
It had been a whole year since I had seen some of my scarecrow friends and family. Everyone had grown like weeds, and of course, were one year older. But my, my…our very favorite tea party guests had grown so over these months that we had to do a double take. PJ and Da are always talking about how they are growing and how true that was. I wondered again if we had prepared enough food! We heard they are always anxious to see us once again. But, I’m thinking they can’t be nearly as glad to see us as we are to be here having our 3rd annual tea party with them!
I am overjoyed that you came to visit my tea party. All of my scarecrow friends are excited to see you! I and my friends invite you to join Lidy and Sarah. PJ says to make sure my scarecrow bunch mind their manners. Lidy and Sarah aren’t used to entertaining rowdy guests!

In late spring of 2022 Monday Morning Blooms changed from two posts per month to only one. As I was thinking about how I could add another creative post each month, I had an idea. I sent Mary (Home Is Where the Boat Is) an email to ask if she would partner with me for a monthly tea post. She said she would be delighted to join me. Our inaugural post was July 19, 2022. Mary was the consummate tea hostess with beautiful tables and delicious recipes each month. This is my first Tea On Tuesday’s since she passed away. I am missing her presence, creativity, and inspiration. We became friends through our shared interests in blogging, gardening, floral arranging, collecting, and teatime! Mary will always remain in my heart.

Wishing you a delightful week!

Oh my goodness, what a delightfully uplifting teatime post for this October, Pam! Charlotte Daisy was full of imagination for this crisp and refreshing change in weather, scenery and overall delivery! Each of the details were en point with Charlotte’s descriptions, and the cast of characters has grown, thanks to Da, am I right? the grands are so beautiful and diverse in their looks, I love it! EK’s hair is getting darker, on the ends, no less! I know they contributed to the festive teatime, and oh, what magic and blessings they bring. i loved your link and memory back to Mary for this teatime. She will remain in our hearts always. Rod and Rowena would have approved of this post by Charlotte Daisy. 🥰
Great party! Yes Mary is missed. Perhaps she is looking down and enjoying this party.
