Once Upon A Cabin

With summer coming to an end and fall quickly approaching, it’s time to put those beach plans to rest and search for that perfect cabin in the mountains!  Every year around this time I start dreaming of that perfect log cabin!  Butch and I both love a mountain get away…and when you start talking about a rustic log cabin, you’re speaking our language!!  Butch just prefers downright rustic, and I of course like a little touch of elegance with mine!  We have several places we love to go for a long weekend…one being Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC with its rustic and elegant charm!

When I saw this log cabin nestled in the mountains of Highlands, I wanted to go into planning mode for a weekend trip this fall!  What is not to love about a 1928 log cabin in the Appalachian Foothills?  Who knows if it will happen…but at least a girl can dream!  


I can imagine a cool autumn day spent in this warm space…snuggled next to a warm fire…good book to read…and a mug of robust coffee!


This interesting stair balustrade is made of rhododendron branches!

A Georgia Cottage

As I was perusing my newest edition of Traditional Home, I was intrigued with a Victorian cottage painted coral to stand out among its neighboring Southern brick and white-framed mansions.  When I see Victorian architecture, I immediately think dark-stained wood interiors with heavy ornamentation, but as you will see, the interiors are light and airy with period appropriate antiques mixed with modern pieces and contemporary artwork.  It is a perfect juxtaposition!  Grab a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea and enjoy this Georgia home, sometimes referred to as the Barbie cottage!

 
Built in 1854, this coral-pink with green shutters cottage is not easy to miss on a historic avenue in Macon, GA.  The Victorian exterior features were probably added later.

 
The living room with its classical design boasts a 17th century Belgium tapestry and an Empire gilt console.

The Colors Of Provence

You all know how much I love books…to read, to decorate with, to get lost in…I just love books!  A couple of days ago, as I was rearranging and stacking books, my eyes were drawn to my collection about Provence.  Long before I ever visited this beautiful place, I dreamed about it and knew I wanted my feet to walk those cobblestoned streets!  For so many years, travel was not attainable for us, but I did the next best thing…I visited through books!  The warm colors, the fragrant smells, the earthy tastes…oh I wish I was there now!  Books made it so that I could get lost in a place that I had never even been!

Where was I?  Oh yeah, the family room!  As I took a little trip to Provence via the stack of books, I was inspired to create a vignette that is all things Provence!  My garden is full of sunflowers, lavender, and rosemary this summer, so that was my starting point…and everything else just fell into place!  Provence is one of my favorite destinations and hopefully we can return, but until then I can enjoy my colorful little spot of Provence in the family room!


I bought this beautiful antique country French chest many years ago (for a great price) and I have never regretted that decision.  The tapestry on top was made in Provence!
