What Do I Do With My Bookcases?

Ever have things around the house that you desperately need to do, but put it off for weeks…even months??  This past week I was able to mark one of those off of my “to-do” list!  On Friday, I took everything out of my bookcase, cleaned the shelves, dusted all the books, and gave it a little makeover!  Let me tell you, it was a job…but I am so glad it’s finished!  Butch and I are avid readers so of course we love books and literally have tons of them!  Also, I have been a collector our entire married life, so I have more than enough “stuff” to fill a home library (a dream I still have).

During my years as an interior decorator, one of my most asked questions was, “what do I do with bookcases, we don’t own any books?”  Like I said, I love to read, so I was always surprised to learn that people didn’t have books…but I digress.  I would often be asked to buy books for my clients!  I was hired on many occasions to just “do” the built-in bookcases!  In my opinion, bookshelves should reflect the owner’s interests and real books that have actually been read!  With all that said, let’s take a look at one of my bookcases!


This French-style bookcase sits in our family room.  My plan when I purchased it was to only have books occupying its shelves. That didn’t work because the weight of the books made the long shelves sag!  So a compromise, books and collectibles!READ MORE

Delighting In Blue And White…And A Winner!

Who does not like the clean and crisp look of blue and white?  It simply looks beautiful with any other color…yellow, red, green, orange, purple, you get the idea!  I love to incorporate blue and white into vignettes and tablescapes in my home.  I thought it would be fun to look at this magical combination as I share a few photos from my house.  Then we will take a tour of an entire home designed in this always perfect color combination!

Easter Is Hopping Upon Us…And A Giveaway!

We’ve had a few days recently that have brought hints of spring to the air…bringing spring fever to Everyday Living!  And the arrival of spring means Easter is hopping upon us!  Soon the pastels, bunnies and chicks will be making their debut for 2016!  I love decorating with my collection of Fitz and Floyd rabbits and of course the fresh flowers that we will soon see…colorful hyacinths, lilies, and tulips!

While decorating for Easter is fun and brings a fresh feel to our homes, blogs, and social media accounts, one thing is central…the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  We are so grateful that Jesus defeated death forever so that we could live forever with Him.  That’s a reason to celebrate!  It is our heart that His resurrection and His goodness are celebrated everyday of our lives!  Keeping that as the focus, our traditions for Easter center around our faith and family!  We will attend our church service with beautiful music and sound teaching and preaching that exalts the name of Christ!  Afterwards, we enjoy lunch at our home, which includes so many of my Mother’s recipes!  I know that there will be an Easter egg hunt in the coming years with our granddaughter on the way!  I guess we need to be scoping out good hiding places now!  What about you?  Do you have Easter traditions?
