Designer Spotlight: Tobi Fairley

I am so excited to introduce a new series on the blog, “Designer Spotlight”!  As a now retired interior decorator, I have been greatly influenced by others that I have admired through the years…their vision, creativity, and body of work!  I have already shared a couple of those with you, (Charles Faudree and Betty Lou Phillips) and today I want to introduce another favorite, Tobi Fairley. I “met” Tobi through several major shelter publications like Traditional Home and Southern Living, and I love her work!  I even have a Pinterest board of all things Tobi Fairley!

Tobi, often categorized as a New Traditional Designer, has a signature look that is fresh and simple, combining colorful, large-scale prints with classic furniture styles for a beautiful and functional result. She describes her work as  “…infused with color and bold combinations of fabric patterns, and my favorite furniture styles are very classic and tailored.”  I love her use of color!

When you think of the South, you probably think fried chicken, sweet tea, and Southern Living magazine.  You can find the fried chicken and sweet tea on our dinner tables, and Southern Living on our coffee tables. But one of those things is not exclusive to the South. No matter where you live, you have probably heard of, or maybe you’re even a subscriber to the popular magazine. And chances are, you have heard that they recently released their 50th anniversary edition.  I have been a subscriber for more years than I am willing to admit, and it truly is a picture of what living in the South is like.  With the release of their golden anniversary edition, it really hit close to home, and today I want to share with you how my life and Southern Living have had a beautiful intertwining through the years…


There were four covers for their February edition…and you cannot imagine our excitement when they chose a local venue for their anniversary celebration!  All 4 covers were taken at J & D Farms in Southside, Alabama owned by our friends Danny and Jana McEachern…but why is that important to us?!READ MORE

Winter Foyer: Rustic & Glam

 Most of the time when you walk into someone’s home, the foyer is the first space you see…and it often sets the tone of the entire house!  Does it make a guest feel welcome or is it off-putting?  Since it is usually a place to form first impressions, I always like for it to be a cheery spot with an array of interesting objects that typically tell a story! It is also a good place to add seasonal touches.  As you enter our foyer today, you will notice that the vignette is a little rustic and a little glam…and it suits us perfectly!
