Happy first day of August! I can’t believe this year is whirling by at break neck speed. My daughter-in-love is already back teaching and I will be keeping both granddaughters on Mondays -Wednesdays. I know that I will be busy, but it will be fun and I am making the best memories!
Fasten your seat belt for I am taking you on a road trip today. Butch and I traveled to Texas last week to some places that we have been before with a couple of new stops along the way!
You never know what you might see on the road. We had to laugh over this vehicle that was carrying everything but the kitchen sink…or maybe they do have the kitchen sink ! It does make you a bit nervous if you think about what could fall off in front of you running 75 MPH. And just so we don’t get a post-trip speeding ticket, the speed limit is 75 in a lot of places in Texas!!
The purpose of our trip to Texas was business in Austin and of course when possible, we enjoy adding a little pleasure. The conference Butch was attending was held in the beautiful Fairmont Austin Hotel within the vibrant Central Business District of downtown. Newly opened in the spring of 2018, this 37-story hotel features luxurious suites and guest rooms with beautiful vistas of Lady Bird Lake. You can see more on Sunday’s post.
The hotel is very modern. I grabbed the above photo and this one from their website. Our room was just like this with a stunning view of the lake. My favorite amenity was a Nespresso machine just like the one I have. You may not know that I am a coffee snob, and I rarely find a good cup of coffee when traveling. I much prefer my strong coffee that I brew at home…life is too short to drink bad coffee! The temperature hovered around 100, so I did not get out much during the daytime, but I enjoyed the public spaces for people watching, reading, and drinking lattes which might have included a cookie or two!
Settlers Crossing is such a drastic contrast from the Fairmont. After concluding business in Austin, we drove to Fredericksburg in the heart of The Texas Hill Country for a little relaxation. This circa 1865 log and rock cottage would be our home for the next couple of days!READ MORE

Hello dear readers! I have finally recovered from our 17+ hours and almost 1,000 mile drive from Fredericksburg, TX to “sweet home Alabama.” We had reservations to stop and spend the night, but we decided to keep trucking. I love vacations, but I can’t wait to get back home. I will be posting about our road trip on Thursday.
You all know how much I love color, so today’s tablescape sings of bright happy colors…yellow, red, and blue! The heat and humidity have returned, so I know you are thankful to view from your air-conditioned space.
It was so much fun to set up this colorful table. My inspiration was this tablecloth that has been in my linen closet for a long time…
