Hello sweet friends. I hope you are well and are enjoying this last week of January. On Monday night there was a devastating EF-3 (150 mph winds) tornado in the Fultondale area of Jefferson County with a loss of life, multiple injuries, and homes and businesses that were totally destroyed. This is about sixty miles from where we live. Please join us as we pray for our fellow Alabamians that were terribly impacted by this storm.

January is the month that I really begin thinking about our garden. RM and I are planning some expansion this year and we shall take you along as our ideas begin to take shape. There is much gardening work to be done around the Sunshine Cottage and that is definitely in our plans. Blogging provides a beautiful way to journal the progress of the garden, its successes and failures. Let’s open the journal and take a look!

Simple + Southern Sunday No. 325

It is just past mid-winter if you are like me and prefer to use the meteorological dates for the seasons. But either way January can sometimes force us inside. But, I happened to notice that all of today’s scenes are outdoors! Apparently last week was nice outside!

The days are noticeably longer as the earth’s tilt allows the sun to be slightly more direct each day now. I’m just very partial to some sunshine on my shoulders!

Valentine’s Day Tabletop Inspiration

Happy Thursday! Can you believe how fast January is passing? It seems that it has been a cold and rainy one in our Appalachian Foothills! I must say I enjoy all four seasons, winter allows me time to enjoy some much needed simple pleasures…reading books and magazines, a cup of cappuccino and a square of good chocolate in the afternoon, and planning additions to the garden.

A couple of days ago I began pulling out Valentine decor in anticipation of February 14th. I love planning a special tablescape for the day. I looked back on previous blog posts for inspiration and I decided to share some of those with you. Hopefully, it will inspire you to make the day special for all those you love!
