Happy August sweet friends! I hope the last weekend of July was a wonderful one for you and your family. RM and I enjoyed a refreshing and relaxing getaway last week to our favorite mountain destination, The Swag. Bordering the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and located at five thousand feet, the temperatures were twenty degrees cooler than home…what a delightful treat. The accommodations and cuisine are outstanding, as well as the scenery!

An Appalachian Mountain view that is as good as it gets! Gooseberry Knob is an iconic spot that is well known by anyone familiar with The Swag in western North Carolina. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park boundary lies less than 100 yards behind where I was standing. Come along and join PJ and me as we do a little trekking in the mountains.READ MORE

Happy Sun…day to you. Large heavy sunflowers bloomed at the top of these stalks. When they were spent I cut them since they were only pulling the plants down. We’ve never had a variety that produced numbers of smaller flowers below the main attraction. It is hard to see them all but this stalk has 8 flowers. I told PJ it reminds me of a totem pole!READ MORE
