“The heart of our meals is to know the hearts around our table”
-Kara Tippetts, The Hardest Peace
The winter, to some, can be a dreadful season. The blistering cold, the dreary rain (especially lately here in the South), and the shorter days can leave us anxiously awaiting spring’s arrival. But, I actually embrace the winter season! With all the beauty of Christmas tucked away, I enjoy the quiet and solitude of a January day. Even though it is gloomy outside, it doesn’t have to be gloomy in our hearts-or homes! We can make any day brighter when we choose joy-even in the dead of winter! With that in mind, I decided on a winter tablescape with candlelight and a little sparkle.
A romantic table set for four!
It was raining and very gloomy late Friday afternoon when I was photographing, so it made the candlelight even more special!
No placemats or a tablecloth, just the beauty of the warm wood exposed
The table runner is actually a lovely sequined scarf that created the sparkle!
Winter white ironstone for this time of year. I use this “Baroque” pattern by American Atelier often. Stemware is what you have seen on many of our tablescapes, and the rattan chargers offer texture!
The flatware was a wedding gift from my parents…almost 42 years ago. The sterling napkin rings were also a wedding gift. The embroidered linen napkins are a fav!
The ambiance from candles is always perfect. After all, everyone looks prettier in candlelight!!!
The centerpiece is five taper candle holders!
In the foreground is a repurposed ice cream sundae glass (upside down) holding a candle!
The candle holder with the crystals is a favorite! Why did I only buy one?!

Candles bring the elegance to an otherwise simple tablescape!
Adding an element of rustic to the elegant are two tall vases with small branches and a pair of antlers!
The weather definitely called for a hot bowl of lentil soup!
So nice to have dinner with the glow of candles. My advice is to do this often for those you love-it makes a simple meal extraordinary!
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore”
Psalm 16:11
