The Long Awaited Pergola

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭73:26‬ ‭

Raise your hand if you have a list of projects that have been on the to-do list for a while, but haven’t been done!  Both of my hands are raised!  I have the greatest of intentions, but somehow these projects get pushed aside and we just don’t always get around to them.  Life just gets busy!

You may remember in June of last year, we completely transformed our backyard into a garden area that we love and had new tile installed for our patio.  We knew we wanted a pergola to be built over the patio, but it didn’t take priority and got placed on the back burner!

But in June of this year, it was time to check this off of our list!  I found inspiration for The Perfect Pergola and it was time to get the ball rolling!  Finally, the second week of September columns went up and our pergola project was underway…it was started and finished within a couple of days!  We are very pleased with how it turned out…and what better weather than autumn to begin enjoying it?!  I haven’t had the time to finish the decorating process, but I could hardly wait to share it with you, my readers…the long awaited pergola!

This is where it all started…my inspiration photo for our pergola!

Just a little peek from the garden!  Are you ready?!

There are several things I have planned for our space, but they can wait until next spring!  In the meantime, we are enjoying the cooler weather that is perfect for eating under the pergola!

Just like the inspiration photo, we have double round columns on all four corners.

Butch and I have been traveling so much, but I did manage to get some mums and pumpkins…love that autumn touch!

Butch has promised to make a wood table for our patio…and we will move this table and chairs to the garden.  I also plan on an outdoor rug and a chandy!

Coming soon…patio string lights!  We have bought them, but they are still in the box!  I can’t believe I am saying this, but I am not as impatient about getting all the little things done as I once was…maybe an age thing!

Next spring you can be on the lookout for a few changes on the patio…and who knows, perhaps even a little Christmas could show up!

  1. It’s gorgeous, Pam! Do you plan to leave it in its natural state? I’m just wondering, as I’ve watched both my sister-in-law and next door neighbors’ approaches – each different – and I like both. Whatever you decide, I’m sure it’ll bring you much joy in the coming years!

It’s beautiful! I completely understand about not being as persistent these days. I’m not either! Shocker, HH got a bee in his bonnet and started putting in a sprinkler system. Guess he got tired of seeing me drag water hoses around for 20 years! Haha – no rush, dear. His project required some severe pre-winter pruning of Knock-outs. Bonus – I finally got him to cut down the crooked tree bent by our tornado over five years ago. It’s fun to work together on projects, and I know you and Butch enjoy that part of it – and will get so much fun from your new perfect pergola, too. Happy week!

Pam, it looks gorgeous! I have been anxious to see it. We are planning on, hopefully, building one in the Spring. I just showed Mr. Bleu yours, and he really likes it. Thanks for sharing! I hope that you have a happy and blessed day!!!

  4. It’s totally fabulous Pam! I really love the double columns, that makes such a statement! I can only imagine how excited you are, and just think of the fun you will have decorating for the seasons. I would be madly trying to get those string lights up and hang a chandy!

This is going to give you so many happy memories outside together with family and friends! Such a wonderful gathering spot.

  6. Nancy says:

    OH! I love your pergola!
I know just how you feel! We wanted a pergola for 26 years, but put it off because we needed to redo the patio first. Ours is a huge patio, so that was no small feat. We just completed it about two weeks ago….(take a look in my blog)…
    I love your columns…they are wonderful….
I know how joyous you are about the finished product, we are about ours.

  7. Mary says:

I have pergola envy Pam, it’s just beautiful and perfect for alfresco dining! We have talked about adding one to our patio area since it faces west and we have no shade. Enjoy!

  8. Sandra Garth says:

Oh my this is so pretty and i would think this would have taken much longer. Your outdoor spaces are always beautiful and lingering would not be hard to do. The mums and pumpkins compliment the area very well. Looking forward to seeing more. Thank you for sharing with us this week at Celebrate Your Story, have a great week.

Oh, Pam, I sure do know about those back-burner projects. I have been slacking most of the year, and now I’m rushing before cold weather hits. Your pergola is so elegant and pretty. You will have so much fun!
