Christmas Home Tour: All Is Bright

December 5, 2016~ Christmas, Decorating, Holidays, Home Tours

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”
Isaiah 9:6

Hello, and welcome to our Everyday Living!  Whether it’s your first time or if you’re a daily visitor, you are always welcome here with us!  You will find a little bit of everything on our blog…travel, recipes, and of course decorating!  I hope you are enjoying the Blog Hop and will visit all of the talented bloggers who are participating…they are all listed at the bottom of the post!  A special thank you to Chloe at Celebrate & Decorate for being an amazing hostess!

You can also see more of my mantel as featured on Wayfair here.

unnamed

Christmas is the one season that takes me to a place of nostalgia.  The smells, the sights, and even the sounds of the season take me to a place of joy and happiness!  As I unpack our decorations each year, my mind is flooded with memories that are attached to each one.  I love things that tell a story and evoke a memory…which is why my Christmas style is one of collections and sentiment!  As I unwrap my collection of colorful Radko ornaments, I remember the first two that my Mother gave to me that began my beloved collection many years ago.  And above all, the true meaning for our Christmas season is awakened in me as I carefully place my nativities throughout our home….

In addition to my many collections that fill our home during this time of year, you will notice one more thing…I love color!  In a sea of white (which I love!) I am still a girl who loves living in color!  Years of collections bring years of color…color that reminds me that Christmas is here, and in our home, All Is Bright!

*

Our small foyer is decorated with my collection of Byers’ Choice Carolers, twenty-two to be exact!

My Mother started the collection for me and friends kept adding new ones for many years.

Their sweet faces singing in my foyer make a joyful welcome!

Fa la la la la la la la la!

I also have a large collection of Hummel figurines, including the sweet nativity that Butch bought me many years ago.

*

I have enjoyed placing this large nativity on the hearth for the past couple of years…it is extremely heavy but beautifully painted in detail!

*

*

*

For years I put up three trees, then reduced it to two…this year we only put up one in our family room!  Each year we say we are going to make it more simple, but we love all of our collections and the memories that are attached!

The tree has a large collection of Radko ornaments, but also a hodgepodge of ornaments collected from travels and from sweet friends…they all tell a story!

*

*
*

I found these sweet carolers at Cracker Barrel many years ago!

*
One of my Mother’s beautiful Santas she painted so long ago…she was so talented!

You often see our dining room set for Tablescape Tuesday, but for everyday use I keep it simple.

You can see last week’s tablesetting “Plaid Tidings” from the the Holiday Tablescape Blog Hop.

We added the flocked trees last year and they are small and easy to place in the bay window!

*

I also collect Steinbach nutcrackers from Germany, several are not shown.  I placed these on the French chest in the kitchen surrounded by fresh cedar…lots of color!

*

The kitchen island may change a couple of times during the season…I love using paper whites!  I plan on spending lots of time baking goodies in here!

The mantel above my cooktop is dressed in fresh fruit, fresh cedar, and three special blue and white plates!

Thanks so much for visiting and I will be sharing a new Christmas tablescape tomorrow, and on Thursday our porches with a much requested tutorial for the Williamsburg fan that Butch makes each year!

Be sure to visit all of these talented bloggers all week!

Pam, I don’t remember seeing your family room – ever! – and it’s beautiful with your Christmas decor. There’s a bit of a guilty feeling not pulling ALL the ornaments out, isn’t there? This is the first year I haven’t used them all, and it leaves me feeling just a tad guilty. Love the Byer’s carolers. One of my sisters also has a beautiful collection of those. I love all the use of color for Christmas and the memories you shared in your collections.

Pam, your house adorned for Christmas is beautiful. I love that you adore color. I think we must be kindred spirits…you know how I love color! You have so many wonderful collections with so many great memories attached to them. The Santa that was painted by your Mother is amazing! I know that you must treasure it so. I can’t wait to see your beautiful tablescape and your porched decorated for Christmas! I hope that you have a wonderful and blessed Monday!!!

I enjoyed seeing all your collections. My grandmother collected Hummels, and when she died, no one wanted them. They were sold for little to nothing. I knew I’d regret letting them go, but I didn’t have room to store them at the time. Things are different now, and I would enjoy seeing her favorites throughout the years. Oh, well…we can’t keep everything! I’ve started a collection of nutcrachers for my daughter. She has always loved the two I have, so I’ll be passing them along soon. Thanks for the fun trip down memory lane! By the way, I’m with you on having things on my tree that tell our family story. I look forward to another beautiful table of yours tomorrow. 🙂

It’s been a treat to tour your home this morning all decorated for Christmas. Your tree is beautiful! I share your Radko love. It would be fun to look at your tree close up and share your memories of each ornament. I bet we have some of the same ornaments.
Your chest adorned with Byers Carolers is delightful. Neat to have a collection of nutcrackers too. But my favorite is your gorgeous Nativity on your hearth! It is center front and special. Your kitchen is warm and welcoming. I love fresh fruit and greenery as well as your bar centerpiece of paper whites, amaryllis and the darling gingerbread house. I could go on and on. Thanks Pam! How do you do it all?

Pam, what a gorgeous home tour. I love all your collections, especially the carolors. I’m not familiar with that collection. They are so sweet. All your lighting is stunnnig. I had several Hummel that I sold “for next to nothing” too. We both enjoy many of the same things for Christmas: crèches, lots of lights and Santas. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home on the blog hop. Always a pleasuare to be with you.

Wow Pam! It must take most of a month to get your home to be this wonderful. When I think of Christmas decorating I will forever think of yours. The Willuamsburg fan is one thing I loved to do while living in North Carolina with all the fresh fruit. Here is Colorado it wouldn’t survive very long because of the extreme change in temperatures. Your grandchildren must light up when they visit. Merry Christmas to you and Butch.

Your nutcracker collection looks regal set in greenery on your French chest, and what says Christmas better than a kitchen full of paperwhites and gingerbread houses! Your beautiful dining room with simple touches is elegant as always, and I would love to know your secret for keeping the wreath on your chandy looking so fresh 🙂 I can’t wait to see the Williamsburg fan and the new pergola done up for the holidays! I absolutely adore how you set up the large nativity on your hearth and also how you captured it with such a serene and almost “holy” atmosphere around it in the photo you took – breathtaking! My second favourite are the carollers as my mom also has a little collection of those and it reminds me of my childhood. Really enjoyed my stop here on the Blog Hop!

Pam, your home is so warm, welcoming, and beautiful. Your Nativity scene is so dear, as is your ornament collection. I have never seen caroler figurines, and I am totally charmed by yours! Each detail was placed with love and the very heart and meaning of the holiday. This is a home that says, “You’re home for Christmas.”

Happy Monday! We have had a lot of rain which shor Happy Monday! We have had a lot of rain which shortened our peony season! Peony Karl Rosenfield was absolutely stunning this year. Sarah Bernhardt was relocated last year and gave us some gorgeous blooms in spite of being moved. Several Spirea are in bloom as well as Clematis Jackmanii! What is blooming in your garden?

Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlan Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlands in memory of my beautiful Mother who was a lovely example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Mother had the gift of hospitality and shared it with everyone. Karl Rosenfield peonies from my garden fill a treasured keepsake pitcher handed down from my grandmother! A beautiful floral April Cornell ‘Lillianna’ tablecloth and Famille Rose salad plates elevate the status of the old picnic table next to our woodlands. I have collected bejeweled enamel trinket boxes for many years and shared a few on the table for whimsy and fun. For memories of my Mother, click the link in my profile.

With glorious weather, the table next to our woodl With glorious weather, the table next to our woodlands was perfect for teatime! It is Tea on Tuesdays with blogging friends Mary and Kitty. The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change! Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates!
