“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
Psalms 4:8
Hello dear friends! I know a lot of times, I start off a post with a report of our ever-changing weather here in the Appalachian Foothills. We are fortunate to be able to experience all four seasons in the South…and sometimes it seems like we can experience all four within the same week! Just this month, we have had bone chilling temps in the teens, followed by sunny skies and a high of 78. Last week, it was rainy and gloomy everyday, so when rain stopped and the sun decided to come out on Sunday and Monday, it was very welcomed!
But the rain we had last week wasn’t just your typical week of rain…it has brought about record setting water levels here in our county and in surrounding areas. The weather around us has been a lot more than small talk. We are under a flood warning until Friday. The Coosa River is slightly above flood stage level as of Monday morning and is expected to finally fall below flood stage on Friday morning according to our local EMA. However, with more rain in the forecast, that could change. Weiss Lake, which is near our home, has major flooding with schools closed. The lake is a huge recreational area with summer homes lining its banks. And this is just here in our area. I know that the weather across the nation has been difficult with record rainfall and heavy snow. My prayers and thoughts continue for all those affected. To some, it may just be another day of rain or snow, but to others, it is life altering.
Our son was contacted by the EMA to take some drone footage last Friday. Our very popular Noccalula Falls has been roaring with all of the rains! Be sure to check out more photos and videos on his Facebook page.
Farm land that is only a few miles away from our house!
Roadways that are near creeks!
Nearby Weiss Lake where record flooding is taking place! Again, my prayers are with those who are affected by the weather. Our Lord promises to be with us in the floods, both literally and spiritually.
So we have seen how devastating water can be…and I don’t know about you, but I sure need to be reminded of how beautiful and refreshing it can be as well. I dug a little into the archives and found some pretty water photos from trips that we have taken.
The beautiful beaches of the Emerald Coast in Florida’s Panhandle!
Palm tree on the island of St. Maarten in the Caribbean!
Butch and I visited in 2015 with our friends that have a condo on the Dutch side of the island.
Two years later in September of 2017, the island was devastated by Hurricane Irma with winds of 180 mph. Our friends were there and lived through the horrible nightmare.
They returned last year and the island is recovering, but it is a slow process!
Beautiful sunset on the island of Crete!
Thank you so much for your visits and the comments that you leave. Have you been affected by the weather this winter? I know some who live near Asheville, NC have told me of floods and landslides.
I will be back on Thursday with a tablescape. Wishing you all a joy-filled day!

Some minor flooding in the low areas here, but not the devastation that other places have seen. We are a bit higher up. The French Broad River though, is very full and at the edge of its banks, with some water in the parks on the river’s edge. I am hoping that three days of sun will dry us out.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hopefully you were able to dry out with the sunshine! We live on a hilltop, so we are safe.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
The latest update is the rain that is expected isn’t going to be monsoons, so hopefully things can get back to normal! Happy Tuesday Carole!
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Good morning, Pam. Dear friend, such dreadful news about the flooding in your area. Prayers for everyone and I do pray the flooding will not reach you. Here in WV we seem to be a little protected from severe weather many areas of the country experience. The mountains protect us somewhat. However, in 1985 there was terrible flooding in our area. My husband’s childhood home along the local West Fork River was flooded. I know what destruction can occur.
Your glorious photos of Saint Maarten made my heart so happy. It is our favorite spot in the Caribbean.
Again, I do pray for everyone in your area and do hope the weather will turn itself around. Enjoy the week and I hope you will see blue skies soon!❤
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sandra, flooding can be devastating. We live on a hilltop, so we are fine. But not so for those who live on Weiss Lake. I didn’t know that you loved St. Maarten! It was devastated by the hurricane in 2017!
marmeladegypsy says
Your photos are both beautiful and horrifying, Pam. I’ve had flooded basements before — just five or six inches but enough to toss the lot of everything wet. I cannot compare nor can I comprehend the anguish of those who are flooded out by bad rains, mudslides, hurricane aftermaths. This post is a good reminder to us all.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Jeanie. Water can bring much devastation!

I have been trying not to complain about the never ending rain, but looking at the forecast for the next 7 days it’s hard not to groan! There is a small lake I drive by often that I noticed last week was almost overflowing, not to mention the Cahaba River which is roaring…we were going to go to the coast this weekend for Mardi Gras parades but rain is in the forecast there too for the next week, ugh! BUT! At least it’s not snow, and at least it’s warm! I love seeing your son’s incredible photographs, fingers crossed you won’t have flooding…

We had unexpected sunshine this afternoon and it was gorgeous and pleasant. We are safe on our hilltop! Thank you Jenna!
Roxanne says
Pam, praying you all stay safe and dry. The drone pictures of the rushing water are incredible. The water from the flooding rivers and streams here in Upstate SC will be moving towards the coast, where those poor people are still recovering from the floods of last summer’s hurricanes. We still pray at every Sunday service for some of the coastal churches that were ruined. Your photos show the beautiful majesty and sheer terror of water.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, we are safe on our hilltop. There is much flooding and devastation along Weiss Lake. We had unexpected sunshine this afternoon and Ella Mae and I played outside. We are back to temps in the low 30’s and high 20’s next week. I don’t know how that will impact trees that are budding and blooming.
Alice Genzlinger says
Praying for safety for everyone. There is a large lake, Kerr Lake, on the northern boarder of NC, hear where I lived in NC, I recall many times that roads were closed because of flooding. I have flown over that area during flood stage and southern Virginia and a large area of NC was under water. My sister has to put on galoshes just to go to her car and has to get drinking and cooking water from a neighbor because her water actually has mud in it due to the rain. For years her area has been under a drought. Not anymore for sure the aquifers are filled.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Alice. You obviously know what heavy rains can do. We had unexpected sunshine this afternoon and it was heavenly!
S C Williams says
Pam, The beautiful ocean, beach, & sunshine are all welcome scenes after so much rain & standing water. I can feel the warmth & the sand the between my toes! We’ve had glorious sunshine since Sunday & it is wonderful! Hoping you’re on higher ground & not in a low lying area with the flooding so near! Your son is quite talented & the falls are magnificent! The power of wind & water is unbelievable & scary when out of control as your son’s video demonstrates. By Thursday we’re back in the cloudy, rainy winter weather but your tablescape will brighten our day! Clara ❤️?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Clara, warm sand between my toes would be so nice right now. We are on a hilltop, so we are safe, but many areas are experiencing devastation along Weiss Lake. Thank you for your sweet visits and comments! Blessings always!

Weather modification………………..
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hi Ceecee. I had to look up that term to make sure I knew what it meant. Have a great rest of the week!
Sue says
Hoping all is well for you, your beautiful family and friends, and your stunning surrounding community, Pam. Your pictures really tell the story of flooding, and then your beautiful pictures of water at peace are awesome…keeping you in my prayers.
We noticed this morning our Snake River(Idaho) is looking high, but still within it’s bounds. We are having rain, then it freezes, then more rain and more freezing. We aren’t to the Spring thaw stages yet…we are all longing for Spring though…
Take good care!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Sue. Everything is well at our house, but in many areas not so. Idaho is such a beautiful state. Spring will be a welcome sight?
Shirley @Housepitality Designs says
We have yet to turn on the sprinkler system in the Berry Patch house and prior to moving we had not turned on our sprinklers for months. Such a very rainy year and thoughts and prayers are with those who are so horribly affected by this unusual rainy weather. Thank you for the happy photos too!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Shirley! We had an unexpected sunny afternoon today! It sure was pretty!
Belle Bleu Interiors says
Pam, we have been blessed with sunshine the past two days. However, a winter storm warning is in effect for tomorrow and Thursday. My heart goes out to those affected by the terrible floods. I hope that you stay safe from the terrible flooding. Take care, sweet friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Oh Shannon, I so hope your winter storm isn’t too bad. Take care and stay warm! We are fine sweet friend!
Nancy says
My heartfelt prayers for all the people who are badly affected by the rain, flooding and ice jams.
We also have had crazy weather with lots of rain, hail (inches of it) and snow. We live in the desert! El Niño is the cause and it’s involved with the jet stream so it comes your way as well.
I continue to pray for all those who are flooding!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, the weather has been a bit crazy! Thank you Nancy?
Kari says
I pray you are safe from flooding dear Pam…and we pray for those who are already flooded and in harms way. Our weather has been pretty good so it is hard to see suffering in our beautiful country. As usual, your pics and your son’s aerial views are amazingly gorgeous. I feel I can reach out and touch everything through your eyes. Blessing Always
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much, Kari! We live on a hill, so no danger of flooding. But with a river running through our town, many are impacted!
Chloe Crabtree says
I hope that all of those near the flood waters are safe now. Your fantastic photos certainly share the dramatic differences water can make in our lives. God bless, Chloe
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Chloe, hopefully the water will recede significantly before more rain comes.

This flooding is terrible, but I’m always awed by the power of nature. Wow. it’s incredible. Hope you and everyone else up that way stays safe and as dry as possible.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Leslie. We are good on our hilltop location. Those living along Weiss Lake have major flooding!

Those are just amazing photos of the flooding. Wow! I hope everyone stays safe. I loved the “eye candy” photos of the gorgeous beaches, especially this time of year when it’s still cold and a bit dark. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, my! Those high waters look very scary and intimidating. We had a horrible flood here where we live last year. The river overflowed its banks, and we stood on our balcony and watched it happen. I have never heard such a loudly rushing river. Especially at night, it was so troubling to listen to it rushing as quickly on land as it was in the riverbed. God was so faithful, and even though the flooding was horrible and some of our things were ruined, praise God, we were safe. My heart goes out to the many in your area who must have been affected by this water. I am so late in coming to visit you, it is probably different there now, but I hope everyone was safe. I always keep your precious post emails in my inbox, and I wait until I can come by and have the time to enjoy them! It was so nice to visit with you today, sweet friend. I LOVED seeing all of the beautiful places you have visited!

Amazing pictures of the flooding. Water can cause so much damage. I hurt for those that have lost so much.
Your son does amazing work. What a useful and helpful tool to assess situations.
Beautiful pictures of your travels in areas with water during pleasant and safe times.
I may be late tomorrow also as we are traveling to Opelika for a funeral tomorrow.
What a busy week for you this week and the coming one. It is hard to visit everyone with so many hops and group posts.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Bonnie. The rain has been unbelievable in our area over the past two months. Be safe as you travel.

Flooding is so devastating and it’s getting more common here too in England. We would love to move but it seems all the places for sale are near water! I hope it gets dryer for you quickly and your neighbours are okay xx Maria
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Maria. Surely we will begin to have drier weather!
