Simple + Southern Sunday No. 237

May 19, 2019~ Everyday Living, Faith, Family, Gardening, Granddaughter, Outdoors, Simple + Southern Sunday

“Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26:4‬ ‭

A Coreopsis (Tickseed) is attracting some visitors !

These thistles appear to be on the verge of releasing quite a number of seeds!

Not something to grab hold of with a bare hand but the lady bug is right at home!

Soon these seeds will be ready for their wings to take them on a flight to hopefully land on a place to germinate and become a new Maple tree !

Ella Mae is enjoying a few “bracelets” she received on her birthday!

Gardenias are filling the entire back yard with their sweet  fragrance!

Grilled jumbo asparagus with farm egg and herb vinaigrette !

Pink primrose graces our roadsides in May. While a beautiful flower to look at, we understand it can be quite invasive.

Chives are an edible species of Allium !

We call this area which covers about an acre, Fern City !

This Coneflower or Black-eyed-Susan found a way to the surface in the sea of ferns.

We are slowly making our way to those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.

Oh my, those asparagus look delicious! I love seeing all the varieties of seeds your keen eye spotted. EM is growing like a weed, as we say in S.C. We were at a church picnic a few miles from our home last evening with beautiful weather, only to come home and find a microburst had hit our area. We have huge limbs down all over the yard and driveway, so guess what is on the agenda for this afternoon?

Thistle Is a huge problem here. The county turns goats into problem areas to clean it up. So many ferns in one area is fascinating. I think snakes might hide in them. If I close my eyes Miss Ella Mae will be grown. She is so cute showing off her bracelets. Happy Birthday Ella Mae!

Happy Sunday Alice. Speaking of snakes, Butch came upon a large rat snake in the pasture yesterday and took a photo. He wanted to share it on today’s post and I said absolutely not, I don’t like snakes or photos of them! Have a most wonderful day!

Beautiful post this morning, Pam. First, Happy Birthday to precious Ella Mae. I always thought pink was her color until I see her this her lovely peach/coral top. She is probably going to be one of those girls who is gorgeous in any color.
Isn’t it amazing how seeds can scatter and one will find them blooming in the most unlikely places, like your Coneflower among the ferns. Your gardenias are beautiful and I know their fragrance is marvelous. I can just imagine strolling through your garden in the evening ~ magnificent beauty.
Wishing you and your lovely family a beautiful day and week ahead. ❤

Ella Mae… as darling as ever and Happy Birthday to her!
I see seeds in two of your pictures… New growth begins… just like Spring after winter.
Taking a stroll through your gardens is always a treat but add that sun coming down through the trees, in the evening, …that’s extra special.

Oh Pam, I always smile when I see Miss Ella Mae…she is so picturesque and the camera loves her. A belated happy birthday to this sweet little girl.

Just when I think we have seen all your lovely gardens, you show yet another area that is photo beautiful. The beauty is endless, I think…. as all the seasonal flowers bloom at different times and light up your outdoor spaces.

So funny that one of your readers, Alice, mentioned snakes.

I don’t like snakes either and maybe it is because of the Biblical references…but for whatever reason, my eye is always out for them, as they do like to hide among the ferns or any low growing bushes…or so the pest control people tell me. There is at least one, and I suspect two, that like to hang out in my Secret Garden…and they are called black racers. They are everywhere in Florida, and folk lore has it, they are harmless and keep rodents at bay, as well as they attack and eat poisonous snakes. Not sure I believe that, but it does give me a certain piece of mind, unless I see one unexpectedly.

I grew up on ranches and farms in the midwest and we always saw rattle snakes, garter snakes and bull snakes. Most people don’t look for them and therefore never see them, however, they are there and ever present! I walk with my head down…always alert to my surroundings and any thing creepy crawly!!! LOL

God Bless my dear friend….have a Blessed Lord’s Day.

Kari, you are such an encourager with your comments. We have thirty one acres, much in pasture and woods. Butch loves the outdoors, so he enjoys the upkeep.

I agree about the snakes. In my opinion, there isn’t a good snake.

As ever, your Sabbath message is so lovely and the pictures, inspiring… I almost bought a
container of that particular gardenia, but wanted a more traditional one…. seeing the abundance of your planting and the beautiful aroma they give, I just might augment that corner with those, as well. Your latticed tuteur is such a complement to the garden. Is that one available locally?
Ella Mae is really looking like the grown-up sister, bracelets and all… don’t those little ones just
spring up almost overnight? Have a grand week doing all the meaningful things you and Butch do. Blessings ~

The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.
