“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16
Hello dear friends. It finally feels like fall and I am so excited!!! Have I told y’all it is my favorite season? I have been a little under the weather this week, nothing major just allergies and a slight cold. I debated whether to do my regular Thursday post or just take it easy. Well, I guess you know my decision. I so love connecting with you my readers. I know for certain that I have the very best readers.
It has been several months since I have posted a “coffee table talk”…please join me for a little chat.
“Winter is an etching, spring a water color, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all.”
-Stanley Horowitz
I made a few seasonal changes in our family room, but I do keep it simple these days. In years past I would have changed out all the accessories! I think I am just too tired now. Do you all feel that way? As I have reached a more mature age (wink), there are other things I would rather do. Do you go all out decorating for each season? I do love to decorate with pumpkins and mums outside, so if you missed my kitchen porch you can see it here.
A simple dough bowl filled with an assortment of pumpkins is an easy way to bring autumn into our family room.
The plaid pumpkin with feathers is new this season…I love buying local and supporting artisans from Alabama.
My dahlias are still blooming, this one is called “Avignon”, I love its striped and freckled appearance. I had a little success with dahlias this year, but I was disappointed that some of the plants looked healthy but never produced a bloom. Flowers add so much to a room, even if it is only a single bloom!
Last year I added the three velvet pumpkins with feathers…green, orange, and gold…the colors of fall! I had resisted the urge to buy these pumpkins for several years but I had a weak moment and ordered the trio!
Every time EM walks by the coffee table she stops and examines everything. She loves to ask me questions like, “where did you get this PJ”? Her favorite question is, “Will you give this to me one day?” My reply is always yes, you and baby sister can have anything you want when you are older and know how to take care of things. She also loves jewelry and she already has dibs on all of my earrings!
It only seems appropriate to offer you a pumpkin-spice latte that I make with my Nespresso machine…one of life’s simple pleasures! It doesn’t take long before you can pay for the machine for the price of lattes at a coffee shop.
Ella Mae picks up the small leather journal and I tell her it came from Florence, Italy and yes, you can have it one day! She and Emma melt my heart…I hope you don’t get tired of me gushing over my girls. If you do just hit mute.
Added to the hand-made pumpkins are small moss balls, petite twine pumpkins, and antlers!
I have enjoyed sharing our little chat, now it is your turn. I love reading your comments and always try to reply, I do get behind sometimes. Several readers have asked for prayer, please know that I would be honored to pray for you sweet friends. Thank you for your visits, they truly make my day!

Good morning, Pam. I have so enjoyed my visit with you and listening to you “gush” over your girls. I never tire of seeing or hearing about them. Your coffee table and room are lovely, and I know Ella Mae loves being with you in such a pretty room. Thanks so much for inviting us in this morning. Have a beautiful day and weekend, my friend.💛
Thanks for joining me Sandra! Have a most wonderful day sweet friend.
I love your coffee table table settings. It’s elegant and casual.
Keep gushing all you want about your granddaughters. Grandchildren are one of God’s greatest blessings. I’m so thankful for mine who are all adults now. I hope and pray to be a great grandmother one day.
Nancy, you are so sweet. I know you look forward to great grandmotherhood! Blessings on your day!
Thank you for sharing — your coffee table is beautiful as is your home! Definitely gush over you granddaughters – I never get tired of hearing about them!
Thank you Kate, how sweet. Have a most wonderful day!
I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling well Pam, but your dough bowl is a great distraction and looks so pretty. I am loving all the incredible faux pumpkins I’m seeing this year, love the fabric one with feathers, and have you seen the needlepoint ones, gorgeous! So sweet you are teaching your girls to enjoy and respect nice things! Feel better ❤️
Jenna
Jenna, I love the needlepoint ones…they are gorgeous. Thank so much!
Pam, Hope you feel better soon! Love your beautiful pumpkins and coffee table arrangement. Love, love, love hearing about your darling girls! Keep their sweet stories coming. It’s a highlight of Everyday Living! Take care of yourself & enjoy your latte! It looks delicious. Clara♥️
Thank you Clara. I am planning a little rest over the weekend and I am having a pumpkin spice latte as I write!
Love being in your family room enjoying the beauty all around. I so love your velvet pumpkin display. I absolutely love hearing about Ella and Emma as most of my life has been totally entwined with Maddie and Davis. Maddie has become quite the photographer. As I have said before, it is tiring but oh is it worth it. Maddie had to read an article on prayer flags and she kept saying “Oma, you are going to love this”, a reference to my faith. I took a moment to thank God that they know I love Jesus and I have had this glorious opportunity. Didn’t mean to go on and on. Mute me.😄 Feel better soon.
From one grandmother’s heart to another, we are on the same page. Thank you for sharing Maddie and Davis, grands bring us so much joy. Have a wonderful weekend!
Love your fall coffee table. I have some velvet pumpkins too. I need to decorate this weekend.
Thank you Penny!
I am with you, Pam. I do not decorate EVERY thing like I used to do. Putting away and replacing has become a chore and not as exciting. Pick and choose. Your family room is perfect and I love, love your coffee table. Never apologize for sharing information and pictures of those precious girls. I so look forward to every comment and picture. Praying you feel much better and can enjoy the cooler weather. I am so thankful for the cooler weather. This summer has been unbearably hot and humid. Have a blessed day!
Thank you dear Bobbie. I plan on some rest over the weekend. Blessings and hugs~
Thursday Blessings to you Pam! I too love fall, but last night a big storm rolled in and for the first time in 12 years, we had thunder snow-which I haven’t seen before. I still decorate for harvest, both inside and out.we brought three large mum inside from the front porch and covered three in the backyard. Two in front are little, so we didn’t bother.once the three new ones are done, I will plant them in the garden for next year. I’m just not ready for winter yet, the older we get the more I dint enjoy it-mainly just shoveling. Hope your bug is all gone; there’s been a nasty virus here- headache, fatigue, sore throat and cough. Thankfully I’ve avoided it.
Hugs,
Noreen
Thank you sweet Noreen. If you can believe when we had a blizzard in 1993 in the Deep South, we had thunder snow. Hopefully you won’t move straight into winter, but fall will return with beautiful days. Blessings~
I love hearing about the girls, thank you for sharing them with us! I am glad our little princess is being raised to appreciate and treasure beautiful things. I don’t mean that to sound materialistic…it just seems like the Millennials don’t appreciate things that have been handed down through families for generations; they want throw away stuff from Ikea. It must warm your heart to know Ella Mae will someday have all of the precious memories handed down from your dear mother. Your coffee table looks so elegant! I am praying for you, dear friend, to feel better soon so you can enjoy our beautiful Fall weather.
Thank you dear Roxanne. I am doing my best to teach Ella Mae and she is very interested now. I don’t get the throw away generation. I love having things that have been loved before me and will be loved after me. Have a wonderful weekend my friend, and I am planning on a little rest! Thank you for your prayers!
You have such a warm and cozy home, any bit of seasonal is certainly enough. I have a similar color palette and I struggle for Spring and Summer but Fall and Winter is a breeze. I love all your little pumpkins….and the feathers!
Thanks so much, wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Pam, I always love your “coffee table talk” post, and seeing this gorgeous room! My mom and I always swoon over that blue chintz fabric! I also love reading about your precious granddaughters. There is something so special about the relationship between a grandmother and granddaughter. Your autumn coffee table vignette is beautiful! For some reason, this year, I feel the same as you about keeping my fall decor simple. I just don’t have the energy right now. I’m sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well. Take care of yourself, and I hope you feel better soon, sweet friend!!!
You are so gracious Shannon. I know the special love and bond with your beloved grandmother. I am going to take it easy over the weekend!
What a lovely combination of color and texture. It’s really so beautiful and so inviting!
Thank you Jeanie!
The table is filed with lovely things and the room filled with love and caring….all seasons… it
takes a particular, gifted heart to make it all so. EM and Emma are the frosting on this delicacy.
Take care of yourself, dear one, and take some precious time to rest and bounce back. It seems so many of us are taking Einstein’s admonition to heart, “Simplify, simplify.” It makes
sense considering the pace at which most of us go….Thank you for creating the calm mood and
beauty of your blog to which we can go and take pause.
Thank you dear Mary. Your comments urge me to take time for rest. I am doing that now as I drink a pumpkin spice latte and read your lovely comments!
Dear Pam, A lovely post today. I truly understand about being tired and not changing all the decor to match the holiday/season….except Christmas. It too have found that some things are truly not important. Spending time with those grandgi’s IS important. I love it that EM wants your trinkets and pretties.
So your velvet pumpkins were sourced locally. Does the crafter have a retail outlet or online shop? I have also put off acquiring the velvet pumpkins, but have my will power is weak this fall and I want to purchase them. They are just beautiful. Maybe one day my granddaughters will want mine.
One more question. Will you lift your dahlia tubers for the winter and store them? Or start afresh next year with new ones?
As always, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Mildred. I so agree, grandchildren won’t wait, I so enjoy spending time with them. Sending you an email!
Late in the day reading your post. Hope you’re feeling better by now. I never ever tire of hearing and seeing your grands, and grand they are. Yes, as Autumn has arrived for me and the weather also, (snow today, high of 28 and expected low of 15) I have slowed down but still dress my tables each season. Haven’t purchased the velvet pumpkins, my heart just can’t leave the real ones where they lay. Feel better soon.
Alice, sounds like winter instead of autumn. I know you long for your NC weather. I do feel better. Have a wonderful weekend!
Your coffee table display is lovely! I’ve taken to decorating more simply too. Glad to hear fall has arrived! I enjoy hearing about your granddaughters! My only grandchild is 600 miles away so I don’t often get to see him. Enjoy!
I love your Coffee Table Chats! And never stop sharing your love about your littles!
Your dough bowl filled with Autumn is lovely… Your family room is stunning!
I keep it as simple as possible as well. I love decorating my mantel.
Feel better my dear friend… Prayers for you!
Thank you sweet friend. I am feeling better, enjoy your weekend!
The older I get, the more I realize that “simple” is beautiful too. Love the variety of sweet little pumpkins in that dough bowl. Thanks for sharing…hope you feel much better soon.
Thank you, I am feeling better. Yes, simple is beautiful!
I agree, I dont pull out everything to decorate like I used too, I think I am becoming a minimalist sorta, it takes to much energy that I need for other things. You have a lovely home, your pumpkin centerpiece is wonderful, the pumpkin with feathers is so fun!! I would love to have you share your home on #omhgff or #omhgww for my readers to enjoy!
Thanks so much Karen. Energy is sometimes in short supply 😊
Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well Pam. The pumpkin spice latte sounds delicious!
Blessings,
Jennifer
I am feeling better now, thank you Jennifer!
Glad to hear it Pam 😀
I hope you are well by the time you read my comment dear Pam.
Your coffee table looks great and although the vignette is simple and rustic, it sure blended well in your elegant living room. I love the animal print rug.
My daughters and granddaughters do the same, specially with jewelry and why not, home things too, specially china.
Your house is beautiful.
Hugs,
Fabby
Thank you sweet Fabby. I am feeling better and am on the mend.
Oh, my word! That little Ella Mae asking you if you are going to give her your things one day!!! That just melted my heart. She is so precious, and no, I do not get tired of you gushing about those sweet little ones! I love to read your stories. Your living room is just gorgeous. I have scaled WAY back, too. It just isn’t as important to me anymore, and I would rather be spending time with my precious family. I do a tiny bit of outside decorating just because we love seeing it and enjoy it so much, but less is truly more the older I get. 🙂 God bless you, sweet friend!
Cheryl, you are truly a treasure sweet friend. I want to teach the grandgirls to appreciate and take care of things, that way they will last and can be passed down. I love sharing memories!
Pam,
I love the style and the beautiful colors of your home!! Now that I am finally retired, I am pulling out all the stops decorating for the holidays because i finally have time to do so even though I managed to do it before….But now, I am really enjoying it!! Thanks so much for visiting!!
Hugs,
Deb
You are so kind, Debbie…thank you!
Hi dear Pam!Your home is inspiring an gorgeous!I hope you get better. Blessings!
Thanks so much Maristella!
Oh a pumpkin with FEATHERS!! Oh yes, please. Just too fun …
Thank you Linda!
Hi Pam, loving your dough bowl full of velvet and fabric pumpkins. Your leopard print rug is such a show stopper, I couldn’t get enough!! I love to decorate for the holidays and seasons, but I hear you on slowing down a bit, sometimes it’s just too much work. your littles sound precious, enjoy them! hope you’re better now, thanks for joining in at the party!
Velvet pumpkins are just a lovely taste of Heaven, don’t you think? God is good to give us these tastes here on Earth while we wait for Him to call us Home. He is always good!
Thank you Julie for your visit. God is so good!
Everything is so pretty! I love the plaid pumpkin with feathers. Beautiful!
Thank you Michelle!
