“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
Psalms 1:1-2
Happy Tuesday dear friends! I certainly hope your week is off to a good start. As I was doing a little cleaning in the family room last Thursday, which involved dusting, pardon me…but I don’t like to dust. How about you? Oops, I am sorry I digressed, as I was dusting the coffee table it dawned on me that I hadn’t shared coffee table talk in a long time. The sun was pouring in the family room, which was a bit unusual for the dreary days we have been experiencing, so I grabbed my camera. The only addition that was needed was a cup of espresso. Join me for a little girl talk around the coffee table.
I don’t normally choose a word for the new year. However, I decided on a word for this year…Delight. Used as a noun, the word “delight” means a cause or source of great pleasure, as a verb, to take great pleasure in. A scripture immediately came to mind: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalms 37:4
Am I daily delighting in the Lord, do I take great pleasure in Him?
Each morning, I must choose to delight in the day that the Lord has made. Even in the mundane chores such as cleaning or laundry, I want to consciously choose delight. Am I choosing to delight in the small things that are easily overlooked in our day-to-day living?
The hydrangeas were still in fine form from Monday Morning Blooms. I placed them in a small ironstone pitcher to enjoy on the coffee table. I think most of us take great pleasure in a bouquet of fresh flowers gracing a table…a simple pleasure.
The coffee table is filled with books, which can bring great delight on a quiet morning. I have a large collection of coffee table books that I am sure one day will be purged. But, for now I will enjoy!
I delight in the travel that Butch and I have been afforded, so many memories to cherish. I have expressed often, I never dreamed growing up that I would ever travel outside of the South, much less step foot on five continents. So much of that travel has been in the past fifteen years, when we decided we would not wait for retirement. This small bowl was from a recent trip to Charleston. Notice the artistry of the pottery and the sweetgrass weaving, both crafted by the same artisan. I take pleasure in walking by and seeing it on the coffee table knowing the hours and skill it took to handcraft it.
Magazines left on my ottoman to peruse when there is time…
…a magnifying glass, a small leopard box…little things that can bring a smile and a memory!
A favorite book that finds its way to the coffee table for the winter season, “Winter House” by designer, Charlotte Moss.
Notice the small candle to the right of the bowl. Ella Mae personally chose this for my Christmas present. Her Mommy and Daddy took her to Dollar Tree and she used her own money, earned by doing small chores, to buy presents. I have never received a more precious gift and it’s lilac scent is delightful. Pawpaw (my Dad) received the funniest gift from EM, what every 89 year old is hoping for, a small nerf gun. He cracked up, but was also touched that she selected this special gift just for him.
The small leather box was brought back from a trip to Florence, Italy. Ella Mae has dibs on it. It is her hiding place for her little treasures. It brings great pleasure to watch her carefully open the lid and place something inside.
I confess to being a coffee snob. I love bold coffee, espresso, or cappuccino…a pleasure that I enjoy every morning!
Magazines that are delivered in my mail box rather than digitally is a simple pleasure. I am old-school, I love to open real books and turn their pages,
“The capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention.”
-Julia Margaret Cameron
I take great delight in sharing with you my friends and in you sharing with me. What brings you delight? My goal is to be conscious of what God provides in my everyday living that brings delight. But most importantly, to delight in Him. Thank you for your visits and gracious comments. Wishing you a delightful week!

Love your coffee table talk posts Pam. January is such a great month to curl up with a warm drink and enjoy some magazines or peruse the pages of a beautiful book and your living room is a feast for the eyes with your mix of patterns and fabrics. I had to chuckle over Ella Mae’s choice of gift for your dad…too cute 🙂 I’m delighting in the slower pace of January after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much Mary. I delight in the winter months after the holidays when life is at a slower pace. Have a wonderful week, it appears it will be rain-filled.

Oh, what a lovely post! Now one of my favorites of yours – and there have been many! I LOVE the light streaming in through the windows. I had to pin two of your photos to my board about light streaming. Those kinds of pictures always, always make me think of my dear, sweet Mom. I don’t know why, really. I just feel such a strong memory of her when I see that, and it comforts me. That little Ella Mae! She is such a little sweetheart buying you that candle and your Daddy that nerf gun! Can you imagine one so small thinking of others like that? You can sure tell that she is being raised right and under the right influence! I just love seeing photos of your beautiful home and belongings – you have such an amazing gift of making things look so elegant and homey at the same time. God bless you abundantly, sweet friend. So wonderful to visit with you today!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Cheryl. I take great delight in our blogging friendship and the encouragement from your blog posts. I love light streaming in the windows any time of day, but especially in the morning.
Have a wonderful week sweet friend!

Sweet delights – books, magazines, a good cup of coffee (and accompanying dessert, of course!). That is how I like to spend my January, Pam. Your cherished items – the bowl from SC, gifts from EM (precious!) and others – are just some of the small reminders of the many blessings in your rich life. I feel very blessed too, and love to take pleasure in the little things like you do. Thanks for sharing. And yes, I am of the club who dislikes dusting too!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Rita. Oh, how I would love a dessert. January always means no sugar for me and that is hard because I love my sweets. Yes, delighting in and paying attention to the little things is my goal for this year!

Delight is a great word of the year, and such a good way to keep a positive attitude! I take much delight in your leopard prints, beautiful book stacks, scattered glossy magazines, and Ella Mae’s wooden treasure box…such a sweet story about her buying Christmas gifts…the nerf gun cracks me up! I am taking delight in the fact that I got my errands done yesterday and can stay home and cozy on this rainy day…hmmm, I think I’ll have a peppermint latte! Thank you Pam, for starting my day in such a happy way!
Jenna

Thank you Jenna. Ooh, a peppermint latte sounds just about perfect on a rainy day. I take great delight in our blogging friendship!

I am old school also because, as you do, I love turning the pages of books or magazines. I confess it is difficult to throw away magazines and I have tried to cut down on subscribing. I also find it hard to find time to stay up on blogs and read books and magazines too!
How sweet and smart Ella Mae is being taught to save her own money and select gifts for the special ones in her life. We still have a popsicle stick pencil holder our son made on our office desk.
How wonderful it is to relax and just enjoy a cup of coffee and books and magazines.
Delight is a great word. One of the joys of my day is to rise very early, walk outside with my coffee, and delight in the grandeur of the night time sky God has made and delight in HIM. Then to feast on HIs words begin my day.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Bonnie, thank you. I don’t subscribe to as many magazines as I once did. I only save Christmas issues now and give the rest away when I am finished with them, They brighten others day, and that is a win. I love the way you start your day, it is perfect. What a delight it is to feast on His Word!

Pam, This is a delightful post! Love your coffee table & the sweet momentos. Your pottery dish is so pretty. It caught my eye right away! I, too, don’t like to dust & consider it a quite a chore. I love the word you have chosen for this year “delight”. The small things in life can bring much delight indeed. Sweet Ella Mae’s thoughtfulness that she put into selecting her gifts is so adorable! I love the Nerf gun – a very good gift for a guy no matter what age! I’m sure the candle will be enjoyed & cherished. She’s such a blessing! Pam, words can’t express how much I enjoy your posts! They are delightful and I truly appreciate all your & Butch’s efforts! Have a wonderful day sweet friend! Clara ❤️

Pam, I always love your “coffee table” talk posts! Your have displayed your things beautifully upon it, and I always adore seeing glimpses of your stunning living room. The pretty bowl you brought back from Charleston is lovely, and it’s colors remind me of Majolica. I think delight is a perfect word to choose, and your eloquent way of describing it is perfect! Happy Tuesday, sweet friend!!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Shannon. I was immediately drawn to the bowl because it looked like majolica. Have a great day sweet friend!

It was a delight to read and oh so about loving and delighting in the little things, I love magazines too but do you have ideas you can share about recycling and when to get rid of them and how to remember some articles?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Linda. I give magazines away to ladies who don’t have the extra money to spend on them. They seem to really appreciate getting them. If there is a photo or article that I particularly want to save, I just tear it out and save them in folders. I saved magazines for years and finally realized I had to purge. I only save Christmas magazines now and refer back to them from year to year! Hope that helps.

I delight in so many things. I love Bible study and in my 70’s I am finding more and more time to do this. I have delighted in being a grandmother for the last 28 years.
We also have treasures from our travels. If I gave you a tour of my house there would be stories behind so many pieces.
Thank you for reminding us not only to delight in the Lord, but to take delight in small everyday things.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Nancy, you are so sweet. Having more time to study God’s Word is so important. How wonderful that you have been blessed as a grandmother for 28 years and that you have traveled and have sweet memories.
Happy Tuesday!

Pam, thank you for the word “delight” which is a great companion to my word “joy”. Delight is an action verb and it takes effort sometimes to delight in the mundane. I don’t like dusting either. I sure delighted in this amazing post. Started my day and year perfectly as I too am going to incorporate delight into my days this year. The gifts from Ella Mae are delightful using her own money. I received a gift from Maddie on Saturday. She has been talking about it, anxious for me to have it. She chose it herself in a shop at Edisto. A beautiful seashell cross. Instead of smiling like a normal human being, I cried crocodile tears as she told me she knew how much I would love it. I am so glad she knows what I love. Everything about your room delights me. I love books, magazines and a good cup of coffee. Love you my friend. What a great long distance friend you are!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Dianne, thank you for your friendship. You are a sweetheart with the gift of encouragement. Your seashell cross from Maddie sounds so lovely. I hope you will share its beauty on a blog post. Wishing you a wonderful week my friend!
Nancy says
All of these captures from your coffee talk should be in a magazine or a hard cover written and illustrated by you!
January is a time for cuddling, being cozy and taking in the “delights” around us! And there’s nothing better then a rich cup of something warm to round it all out!
And I have to say how proud I am of Emma and her parents for introducing her to …giving and gifting to others! Her choices were such a “delight!” But the nerf gun… priceless!
Happy Tuesday dear friend! It’s another busy week here.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Nancy, you are too kind. We all cracked up over the nerf gun, priceless for sure!
Enjoy your day my friend!

A friend just asked me if I had a “word” for 2020. I hadn’t picked one yet, but love the one you picked. Mind if I join you in looking for “delight” in life and the Scriptures this year?
I love and appreciate you and your delightful posts.

Please join me in looking for “delight” in our everyday living, but most importantly I want to delight in the Lord.

Beautiful table and pretties Pam!….yes, sheer delight I say! I too love the feel of turning pages. Ella Mae is a “delight” … what precious presents. I so remember my Sweetie loving to hide little treasures in lidded boxes and trinkets….as a matter of fact I recently found one and had to show it to her. I wish you a most delightful day Pam!

Thank you dear Shirley. You are a special delight!

EM certainly knows how to delight the little boy in the heart of her PawPaw… and how to enhance her GrandPam’s reading corner. At so tender an age, she is already a role model of thoughtfulness. Today’s visit is certainly delightful, not only for it’s sensitive and uplifting spiritual message, but the beauty and warmth that you have created in your family room..easy to see how one could find great comfort and release there. FddlDD about the dust…when delightful discoveries are to made in those tempting books….tomorrow is another day…. Bless you for
this pause, Pam dear…. so good for the soul.

Thank you Mary. You are a delight! There will be time for dusting later…

Dear Pam, what a delight it has been to read this post this afternoon. I couldn’t tell you where my morning went, but it did. I love books and magazines, and I am the worlds worst at parting with them. Magazines seem a bit easier to let go than books. I am also not a happy duster, but maybe I will remedy that this year. I do love your word. Happy remainder of the week, my friend.

You are a delight dear Sandra. Wishing you a great remainder of the week!

We treasure a tiny plastic solar soccer ball with two “leaves ” that move on sunny days in our west family room window. Our grand daughter shopped for it at preschool or kindergarten for her sports loving grandfather, several years ago!
Loved the term ” coffee snob,” as I’m the same way!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much JoAnn. I love your little treasure and thanks for sharing.

What a delightful post! Good coffee, precious treasures, and decorating books and magazines…everything I love. I must confess I LOVE to dust!! Mom always said when I was about 2, I picked up a dust cloth and never looked back. The fact that EM earned the money to buy her gifts is so special and a rarity these days. I love your word for 2020. I chose “Spontaneity” because I tend to overthink things before I do them. I’m going to try to lighten up this year!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Roxanne. I like the word you chose, that is a good one. Funny, but I used to love to dust, not any more. Have a good rest of the week!

Oh, I was so DELIGHTED this morning while perusing the Tuesday Turn About to see you had linked up! We have LOTS of posts this week, which is exciting, but makes it difficult to read each post (but I visit every single one). However, I DID read through yours, and I’m so happy I did. Love the verse (my daughter and son-in-law have always used that as their ‘family’ verse… even while they were courting). And it encourages me to look at all the blessings our Lord has given us. He is good… all the time! Also… I giggled and for a bit and got teary over PawPaw getting a nerf gun. What a sweet grand-daughter you have!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Julie. God is always good and faithful, we are most grateful for His blessings ❤️
