An Easter Picnic

March 31, 2020~ Blog hop, Easter, Everyday Living, Faith, Tablescape Tuesday

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭73:26‬ ‭

Hello my dear readers. I am so thrilled that you are here and I hope everyone is well. My prayer today is that the time we spend together will give you a brief respite from these challenging days and the anxieties we often face. I am joining twenty five creative table stylists for an Easter Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Chloe from Celebrate & Decorate. I have set up an Easter picnic to enjoy the great outdoors and a virtual seat has been saved just for you.

“Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime.”
-Martin Luther

I grew up on a street where houses were very close together, but I have loved our country living for these forty-one years. During this time of self isolation, the outdoors have provided a peaceful calm. It seems that spring has been more beautiful. Perhaps, since life has been slower, I have taken more time to enjoy every new bud and bloom. This spot next to a wooded area is a perfect place for an Easter picnic!

“Some old fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.”
-Laura Ingalls Wilder

Rabbits have hopped onto the picnic table. We have several bunnies that are frequent visitors to our picnic area, but so far no “real” rabbits have been able to hop quite high enough to be part of this scene! A Fitz and Floyd bunny appears to have found a treat!

You will find the links to all of the creative table stylists at the end of this post.

A moss runner. ..azalea blooms and snowball viburnum…Fitz and Floyd bunny pitchers…a rustic Easter basket..and egg cups make up the table-length centerpiece!

A Kate Spade Japanese Magnolia tablecloth is so perfect for spring. Japanese magnolias finished their bloom cycle in our area a couple of weeks ago. They are one of my favorite early-spring trees with their saucer shaped blooms.

Last autumn while hiking at DeSoto State Park, we stopped for a little refreshment and found a small arts and crafts show. As I was perusing the booths, I saw this rustic hand-made basket and for $12 it had to come home with me. It fits our rustic spot with the split rail fence and iron wheels from an old wagon that originally sat on our property.

“This is my Father’s world, why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King; let the heaven’s ring! God reigns; let earth be glad!”
-Maltbie Babcock

My daughter-in-love made delicious cupcakes with her perfect butter cream icing! In case you are wondering, all the props were eaten.

Pasture Bunny salad plates, favorite blush dinner plates, cute bunny ear napkin rings, copper flatware, and Godinger Dublin iced-tea stemware complete each place setting.

As I was rambling through my Easter bins, I found these little carrots and thought they would be cute on the moss runner. Then a light bulb came on, a perfect snack for the rabbits! Don’t you love a little whimsy?

There are four different bunny designs in the salad plate set. I thought they were still available at Pottery Barn, but I don’t find them on their website.

It was a lovely afternoon to set up this table and photograph. What a blessing to be outdoors, but especially during this unprecedented time in our country’s history!

It is our family tradition to have Easter lunch at our home. It always consists of recipes handed down from my Mother. It will look much different this year. I am finding the things that I have often taken for granted are now much appreciated. I hope this lesson will not be forgotten.

Please take time and enjoy all of these lovely Easter tablescapes.

Pam, I love the whimsy of the carrot in your bunny pitcher’s spout! Your setting is so peaceful and serene…the perfect spot for an Easter picnic with your basket, moss runner, adorable bunny ear napkin rings and plates. The shot with your snowball virburnum in the background and that green, green grass takes my breath away! I think we will all come out more appreciation of life’s simple pleasures and the freedoms we take for granted when this pandemic passes. As always it’s a treat to hop with you and join you at the table. Happy Tuesday ♥

Beautiful tablescape Pam. I do like a little whimsy but this is perfectly elegant at the same time. Such a beautiful setting for your table. I love your new basket and your bunny with his carrot is precious…been in McGregor’s garden. Thank you for saving me a spot at your table. As you said, I feel more grateful for every little blessing and we know God holds us in the palm of His hand. Beautiful table Pam.

Yes, God is faithful and does not change.
What a peaceful and beautiful setting. You have a knack for creating using what you have in creative ways. How fun it was to find the rustic basket last year! I bet you immediately thought of your rustic spot in your garden. The bunny plates, napkin rings, porcelain bunnies all give us cheer during these very hard days.
The tablecloth is delightful and perfect for your Easter table.
    Happy Tuesday.

It is so true that you don’t realize how precious things are until you are forced to do without them. Life has certainly changed for everyone, and looking through human eyes, the future looks so uncertain. It takes a concentrated effort to keep our eyes on Jesus. So often, I think of when Jehoshaphat said, “Neither know we what to do. But our eyes are upon Thee!” He is surely our only hope. May He bless you all and keep you healthy, in Jesus’ name!

Pam, your outdoor setting is SO inviting, and I agree that the spring beauty is magnified, perhaps because of our limited number of other worldly distractions. That, perhaps, is the silver lining to this dark cloud hovering over our world. Your combination of tulip magnolia cloth (just now losing their petals in our region) with soft pink plates and salads are eye pleasing, especially with that strip of mossy runner for a realistic look of spring right now. What a great find in that rustic basket, and the carrot in the bunny is clever! I thought it was part of the original piece, it fits so perfectly. Like you, i hope when we can join again with family & friends that we never take our togetherness for granted again. Thank you for the outdoor setting and reminder of what’s good in our world.

Pam, it made me really appreciate the property I can safely walk around after seeing all those people in NYC packed shoulder to shoulder, watching the hospital ship come in. Such a scary time, but all my trust is in the Lord. The first thing my eye spotted on your beautiful table were those yummy cupcakes! I love all the bunnies and your rustic Easter basket filled with the multicolored “straw”. You created the perfect picnic!

Thank you Pam, for letting me know that we are in spring … I say this because today has been a day of surprises, it has snowed and it has been a typical day of pure winter.
It is not very strange that it snows in these lands in the month of March because I have seen it for years.
Well, since they don’t let us leave the house, we are indifferent.
Very beautiful table so colorful and with beautiful characters that gives it a childish and spring look from a fairy tale and I really enjoyed it.
    Thanks and hug

Con suerte, verá un estallido de primavera. Dios es bueno, sus misericordias perduran para siempre. Cuida de mi amigo. ¡Te mando un abrazo!

What a beautiful celebration of color, Pam. I enjoyed seeing your pretty dishes and all the lovely pastel colors, they seem so sane in this crazy world. I hope that you are keeping well and safe.

Pam your table is serene for me and so welcoming. It makes me want to go sit outside and look up at our trees. We do not have such a lovely spot as you. You are blessed. We lived in the country for 17 years but moved back to a rural area about 3 years ago and now have neighbors again. It’s different.
I love everything about how your Easter table makes me feel. My favorite is your centerpiece. What a fabulous find! You have decorated the basket beautifully. Happy Easter season to you!

I’ve been trying to think of something different to do for Easter this year, since everything is out of whack. I don’t even know if church will be a possibility. I usually like to invite people over for Easter lunch, but it may just be my husband and I – alone for my favorite day of the year! A picnic is the perfect twist to make the day happy, yet slightly different. – I thought of you today because I’m getting a few new plants in the backyard and was thinking I should have consulted you first!

Oh, the backdrop to your Easter picnic tablescape is breathtaking, Pam! I think spending time outdoors has been helping us all to cope with our current circumstances. I never realized how much I’d been taking for granted, either. Your table looks so inviting with the soft pastels and natural elements. The copper flatware caught my eye…I love how it coordinates with the blush dinner plates. Just beautiful! Stay well and have a Happy Easter!

Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlan Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlands in memory of my beautiful Mother who was a lovely example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Mother had the gift of hospitality and shared it with everyone. Karl Rosenfield peonies from my garden fill a treasured keepsake pitcher handed down from my grandmother! A beautiful floral April Cornell ‘Lillianna’ tablecloth and Famille Rose salad plates elevate the status of the old picnic table next to our woodlands. I have collected bejeweled enamel trinket boxes for many years and shared a few on the table for whimsy and fun. For memories of my Mother, click the link in my profile.

With glorious weather, the table next to our woodl With glorious weather, the table next to our woodlands was perfect for teatime! It is Tea on Tuesdays with blogging friends Mary and Kitty. The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change! Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate!
