Wishing everyone a glorious Easter Sunday!
“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.”
Luke 24:5b-6a
In times past the cross was used for torture, suffering, and an agonizing death. But Jesus, because of His resurrection, forever changed how we think of a cross. In a photo, a painting, on a necklace, displayed on a shelf or standing on a hill, the cross serves as a promise of abundant life and eternal life made available by Jesus to all who choose to believe!
It is “wisteria time” in our part of the south and this prompted us to venture back to one of our favorites from April, 2016!
Back to 2021, there is a nearby spot that always provides an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of wisteria up close and personal!
The lessons we can learn by paying close attention to creation are endless!
EM and EK may not have a full understanding of creation just yet, but the princesses are sure enjoying some nice days outside. Actually Ella Mae understands a great deal about creation, and will quickly point out who made everything! The girls helped in the garden yesterday, pulling weeds and spreading mulch. And no, they weren’t wearing these pretty dresses.
There is a stream-side area that normally has quite a few oak leaf hydrangeas and this spring is no exception. I took a hike along the creek to check things out and found an abundance of new life. I have always thought these plants have a unique pattern of growth at the end of the stems that is especially noticeable when the leaves first appear. I wonder when we will see blooms?
The sun was at a perfect spot for an oak leaf hydrangea to cast its shadow on a rock that was a few inches under water!
A Kwanzan cherry tree down on the farm offers some of spring’s most gorgeous blooms. With predictions of a late week freeze and several frosty nights, we made pics as well as clipped a few stems for a flower arrangement, not knowing what affect the weather might have on the blossoms!
A stiff northwest wind gave a chill to the afternoon on Thursday but we were glad for the breeze because it did give us a frost free night even though the temp dipped below freezing. Friday night however was calm and many blooms did show signs of frost bite! We were able to cover a limited number of small plants.
This mossy log has been around a long, long time and is usually far above the river. Spring rains and storms the first part of last week flooded many areas across the south and the river behind us is well out of its banks! I have sat on this log a couple of times in the past and enjoyed the view, mostly in the winter. Trilliums thrive here but not much progress was noticed in their growth since last week. A few cold night might be slowing things a little???
Dogwoods in bloom are always a welcome sight and kinda say “Easter”. And supposedly when they are blooming the crappie are biting. That’s a really good tasting fish in case you are wondering what in the world is a crappie!
I have seen pines that appear to be growing out of a rock but I have never seen one growing from a crepe myrtle tree?? Apparently enough rotting debris accumulated and was trapped between the tree trunks to support germination and growth of a pine. I think I will leave it alone and see just how long it can sustain life in this spot!
Probably the oldest tree on our place is a water oak that is no doubt well over 100 (my opinion). The tree has large roots above ground and this unusual fungus has found a home nestled at the base of the tree. Likely growing for a while, the fungus has picked up and grown around a couple of twigs that are now in its grasp!
We pray you have a Blessed Easter and a pleasant and peaceful week!
