Simple + Southern Sunday No. 364

October 24, 2021~ Autumn, Everyday Living, Faith, Family, Simple + Southern Sunday

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
‭‭John‬ ‭10:11‬ ‭

An autumn scene to “set the stage” for today’s post.

Such a peaceful stream with lush green all around, but change is soon to take place, arriving upon the crisp cool nights of November. But this day, a light breeze, 75 degrees and a walk in the woods…does it get much better?

We probably all have sights that we see often throughout the year that we take for granted. This is simply a product of where we happen to live or frequent from time to time. For many who live in the central and northern U. S. and other places, this would not be a familiar scene. But honestly I am not sure that very many crops are adorned quite like cotton when the fields are white unto harvest. Some fields go on for miles it seems. It is really amazing to behold!

We are finding cotton at a variety of stages in the harvesting process. Some, like the previous pic where the leaves are gone and it is time for the big machines to do their job…and other nearby fields like this one where the crop has been picked, baled, and awaits a ride to the gin!

These three are ready to harvest something, I’m just not sure what? I do know their Mom accomplished a miraculous feat…all 3 are smiling at the same time and facing the camera! Very rare indeed. Not smiles, just everybody doing it together…amazing!

Pink sorrel taking in warm autumn afternoon sunshine, probably making their final appearance…the last act!

Found this interesting structure as we passed a north Georgia farm last week. I do wonder what it was it used for through the years. A home, a barn, maybe both…or something else?? A school?

Dogwoods provide us with excitement and beauty in March and April as Spring shows up. I suppose most of their attention comes when those early blooms are gracing the landscape. But those blooms live on in October as the dogwoods are getting an early start on decorating for Christmas.

Maybe this guy is a Christmas frog? I was pulling a few weeds and my friend joined me and had no intention of moving. So when that happens, you get your picture taken and become a famous frog. It really looks bigger in the pic but this one was only about an inch long/tall!

All creation must be in the fall spirit. P J had assistance while arranging pumpkins. As I mentioned last week, I had great pics of a very large snake that watched me gather flowers but showing him was a no-no. I was able to get by with a smaller reptile however.

I’d have to say that this is a common part of our everyday living as we see deer almost every day. Fortunately they have not invaded the garden this year (thus far), and right now the woods are providing an abundance of their favorite…acorns!

Our throwback today is October, 2017, with P J taking a stroll down a beautiful lane lined with green and gold, in a place appropriately named…Aspen!

One afternoon the clouds seemed to be shaping up to possibly provide an unusual and hopefully stunning sunset. I decided to take a chance that might occur so I headed to a spot on Weiss Lake (about 10 minutes away) where we have unobstructed views looking west.

I was glad I made the drive, arriving as the sun went down behind Lookout Mountain.

At one point, for a short few moments, the mountain looked as if it was engulfed in flames, a huge forest fire…thankfully not!

Have a wonderful final full week of October!

”Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”.

Those tiny tree frogs are abundant in North Carolina, I used to catch them when I was a kid around Lake Norman, and bring them home to release in the creek behind our home. Love the wildlife, autumn is such a wonderful time of year.

The beauty that God hath wrought…. the stream, the cotton field, the skies, the laughing/smiling angels, even the critters.
Pam looks right at home in Aspen. When we moved to CO we used to join the trek to the mountain in the Fall to view
the Aspen. A friend with us who grew up in New England experiencing the glorious Autumn colors commented, “I never saw
so many people go crazy over the color yellow.” Could they handle Massachusetts foliage? Many thanks, Butch, for this wondrous collection of visual candy… You and Pam bless us with your blessings… Happy Sabbath all.

Pam and Butch- The sunset shots are fantastic. The children are precious and adorable. Wyatt’s smile is broad and happy. The girls are dressed so cute. The stage is beautifully displayed for fall. The perfect place for a photo shoot. Cotton and soybeans are normal sites in our area but I always enjoy seeing them being harvested. We’re in for storms tonight so the farmers are working overtime to get as much done as possible. Love the woodsy stream and nature shots. The deer ate everything this year from the front porch outward. Their salad bar was our flower beds and potted plants. Next year we’ll have to be more aggressive. Glad they behaved for you so far. Have a wonderful day! Clara ❤️

Happy Sunday, Butch and Pam! Such a beautiful post to start our day! The picture of the stream is gorgeous! We have lots of deer here, too! Unfortunately, they haven’t been too kind to my gardens. We had one that we caught on our night camera the other night that walked right up on to the patio and ate the pansies right out of my flowers pots! Needless to say, I wasn’t too happy. I love the picture of those beautiful grandbabies. Their smiles are absolutely precious! Wishing you both a most blessed Sunday, and happy week ahead!

Hello, Butch and Pam. Love all the photos, except for the one of the “smaller reptile.” I have unpleasant memories of them during my years in Mississippi. They were everywhere. On the porches, the window screens, the kitchen counters – you name it and they were there. Creepy little things to me. However, the beautiful photo of the children made me as always – Happy! Sweet Wyatt looks as though he would like to take off. I think he and Emma will resemble each other. All three are beautiful and I know you adore them.

Thanks for all the photos, even the one of the lizard. Hope all of you had a wonderful day and wishes for a great week ahead!

I’m looking so forward to your weekly segments on flower arrangements as I have recently started arranging flowers for my own enjoyment as well as for family parties, showers, etc. I have a LOT to learn and I’m loving the process ! I have a question: there is a lavender colored tablecloth in your blog, “Top 5 Monday Morning Blooms”, dated January 20, 2020, titled “ Precious Memories “, in honor of your mother. It took my breath away and I’d LOVE to be able to find a tablecloth that color. If you still have your source for that cloth or know of sources I could check I would be so grateful. My email is: mllayden@bellsouth.net.
If you just do not have the time to check on this I totally understand. But thank you regardless !

I am late, very late. Getting back to Colorado after a trip to the farm in S.D. where the combines are everywhere and the large trucks frighten me going too fast on the narrow dirt roads when they were filled to capacity with corn or soybeans on their way to be weighed, emptied and retuned to the fields to do it all over again. Whew! Must say I loved the picture of the grands. I looked at the picture of the old “barn”. Not sure what it was used for as there are a lot of windows to be a barn. Cotton. Not so much as I have a memory of having to pick it after school. Snakes watching you. Maybe not, deer yes and geckos. Yes.

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. I am joining friends Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatis.net

Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice. I am sharing Tea on Tuesdays with Shannon @bellebleuinteriors and Mary homeiswheretheboatis.net Link in my Bio will take you to my blog post! Stay warm and safe!
